President-elect Barack Obama is looking very presidential these days. When he makes an announcement, he is ringed by American flags and stands behind a lectern that has a very presidential-looking placard announcing "The Office of the President-Elect."
But the props are merely that. Under the Constitution, there is no such thing as the Office of the President-elect. Technically, Obama will not even become the president-elect until the Electoral College convenes after the second Wednesday in December and elects him based on the results of the Nov. 4 general election, as stated in the Constitution.
So what is Obama's executive authority in the weeks leading to Jan. 20?
In the 11 weeks between Election Day and Inauguration Day, the next president must ensure a smooth transition by selecting political appointees to manage key agencies and offices within the Executive Branch, and by creating the policies that will define the new administration -- all while respecting the authority held by the current president.
The Presidential Transition Act -- created in 1963 and amended in 2000 -- establishes formal provisions for the transition period by outlining training and other assistance that the president-elect and his team of advisers can receive as they prepare to assume office.

He looks like Mussolini to me.
Not true on this.
Nope.
I think we're going to find things may be a little different now.
I suspect that the Obamantion will require "Ruffles and Flourishes" to be played continuously in his presence while everyone bows.
Continuously.
Great one , and so fitting LOL
I’m not sure what O’s title is right now. I don’t think he is officially the POTUSE(R) until the electoral college votes for him. He resigned his Senate seat, so he’s not a Senator. I’m sure a few creative FReepers could find an appropriate acronym for his current position, though.
Il Dope
No.
>>>>>Not true on this.<<<<<<<
If it’s not true, please explain how the demonstrably timid GWB and his White House staff have chastised Zer0 and his minions for dishonoring the Office of the presidency, the Constitution, and American voters and citizens by using a fake Presidential seal, a fake Presidential podium, a fake Presidential backdrop, and a fake “Office Of The President-Elect”.
Demonstrate how GWB and company have tried to stop this, through persuasion or otherwise.
His 'appointments' do not have any legal standing today. After his swearing in he'll have to make it official by signing hundreds of documents. And even if the Senate 'confirms' his cabinet nominations before January 20, he still has to officialy nominate them as President and then Senate will rubber-stamp all with a quick resolution right after.
Symbolism/Substance = Zero?
Reagan was also pretty good at the image game.
Thanks for the info!
Obama's message:
Seems to fit here too.
That woman staring at the back of Obama's ear looks like she is going to melt from being so close to the Magnificence of The One.
Face it folks, what we have here is the first "Ghetto President".
This guy early on had his plane during the campaign set to look like Airforce One, had a schlocky immitation Presidential Seal going back to the primaries.
I think there should be a bumper sticker attached to this guy's back that says, "Pimp My Presidency"
This guy exhibits the lowest class I've seen since Jimmy Carter's brother Billy PP Carter.
I'm half waiting for this guy to come out in a velvet purple suit with rainbow colored hair extensions. He's showing a lot of classlessness IMO.
Not impressed at all, comes off as ghetto (low class) to me.
“Pimp My Presidency”

LOL!! We’ve all been punk’d!! This is getting pretty damn embarrassing.

Did you two see the placard on Obama's podium today? Huge, official-looking blue thing that grandly read, "The Office of the President-Elect."
Is he kidding? THAT'S an "office"? When did all this happen? Have I been asleep for 40 years? AM I INSANE?
