21 November 2008, Elder Street and Georgia Avenue, Washington, DC
Honor Roll: Fraxnius, Cindy_True_Suppporter, VictoryNY, USN Retired, BufordP, ½ Trooprally, Kburi, Lurker Bill, Ron G Kirby,
On special assignment: PleaDeal
Temperate weather left town as snow flurries arrived
and temperatures plunged like the stock market. After almost two years of the most ethical congress, the economy is in the toilet. But not to worry, Charlie Rangel has surrendered one of his rent controlled apartments in Harlem but claimed a homesteading tax break in DC. Everything is going to be OTAY when ZEROBAMAS Three Stooges economic team takes over and reinvents the We Piddle Along to run the deficit into the next century.
Not only had temperature dropped but the Hawk as they call the wind in The City with shoulders was flying across Georgia Avenue.
Heres a few pics courtesy of Mr. T showing the DC Chapter stalwarts getting some fresh air:

You think only men go into the night? Wrong DC Chapter women stand watch too! Two of my favorite babes VictoryNY and Cindy_True_Supporter. Guess which one is a Wahine and which is the Apple Knocker.
In prior AARs it had been reported that an AZZHAT had left messages pasted for the troops so when this was spotted :
we were suspect. Heres the message:
May the people of
Shepherd Park
And the people from
Walter Reed Hospital,
Their families
And loved ones
Have a safe and Happy
Thanksgiving.
And never forget
That no matter where you are
Or
Where ever you go
That
Somebody out there Loves you

We had been informed that the Friday night dinner bus would be running late. Your intrepid but frigid scribbler
packed it in after the moonbats down the street called it a night.
Trooprally provides the following narrative
9:30PM: Cold, breezy, dark and all alone, at least on the northwest corner. On the northeast corner stood Cindy_True_Supporter, on the southeast corner was Lurker Bill, and holding down the southwest corner was RongKirby. The dinner bus went to a restaurant in Arlington, VA tonight. Word from inside Walter Reed is that the bus will be late tonight, 10:30. If the bus was to come any earlier the Walter Reed FReepers would have stayed. But there is a time, especially on such a cold night, that one has to make a decision, to stay or leave. So soon after the moonbats left, some FReepers had to leave. Fraxinus and BufordP were the last to leave by 9:30. BufordP wasnt feeling well this morning and had planned to leave early, well before 9PM. I guess JVB convinced him otherwise with a real good cigar.
So we were all alone after 9:30PM. Traffic was light and we were able to talk across the intersection without a problem. When cars, buses and trucks did come by, we received a lot of honks. And waves if we could see them in the darkness. There were several chants going on. The typical chant started during GoE 1 in March of 2007:
What do we want? Global Warming!
When do we want it? NOW!!
Then there was the special chant for Walter Reed:
What do we want? The bus!
When do we want it? NOW!!
Another bus, from the Blair Mansion Dinner Theatre came by after 10PM. There was a lot of waving back and forth. The Blair Mansion bus was a treat for us. Usually we leave after the Friday night dinner bus comes through the gate. The Blair Mansion bus is once a month event and comes long after the regular Friday night bus. Blair Mansion is owned by a Legionnaire from Cindy_True_Supporter and [Mrs] Trooprallys American Legion Post.
10:35: The bus was officially late.
10:40: Still no bus, so to save time getting into our warm cars after the bus came by, Lurker Bill and Cindy_True_Supporter started to take down the banners and put away the FR canteen. 10:45: SURPRISE!! The bus came down Georgia Avenue from the north. Lurker Bill and Cindy_True_Supporter barely had enough time to get back to the corner to wave the bus in. When the bus comes from the north, due to the street trees and a bend in the road, we only have a half block notice vs the 2 blocks if it came from the south. I did not have time to take the camera out of my jacket so no bus pics tonight. At least Kburi was able to take some pics last week. For those who dont know, it very cold weather batteries go dead real quick and the digital camera gets slow. Not knowing exactly when the bus would show up I was trying to keep it warm by putting it in my jacket.
I told that PleaDeal was on special assignment. Heres her brief report::
I took a busload of wounded warriors and family members to Blair Mansion Inn last Friday, which is why I wasnt out freezing with you guys. I had a nice meal and a show with some terrific people while you guys were warming the hearts of folks driving by in nice toasty cars!
We left the base at about 6:40pm and there wasnt anyone yet on the corners. We came back close to 10pm and lo-and-behold! there were still a few FRozen FReepers waving and smiling to the returning troops! The folks on the short bus all said how much they appreciated seeing the FReepers. It let them know they were not forgotten and that some people appreciated THEM!
Thanks guys, you made me very proud to be a FReeper!
The wounded warriors inside the hospital are heartened by the sight of ordinary citizens cheering for them and displaying our thanks for the service and sacrifice they've made on our behalf.
Directions to our Walter Reed freep location from the Takoma metro station,.

Hey WVNan - JVB posted the “guy” pics so you can have a “Best Square Jaw” Contest. So, who is it?
[Mr] T
Good thing that the snow was only a clipper coming through.
Also, Plea Deal gave this report:

Yep, the better half of Trooprally stayed home recuperating.
[Mr] T
Thanks for the ping.
Well, Buford looks kinda “scruffy”. If it hadn’t been for the beard he might have won this week, but I have to say JVB still has the title of best “square jaw”, even with all the wrappings around it.
Thank you PleaDeal, for what you did, and for reporting about it. I love these AARs. I wait for them every week, and wish I could be there. I love yose guys.
God bless you folks for all you do.
