The four-year ascent of Barack Obama from state senator to president marks not just the triumph of a man, but the coming of age of a movement.
That movement belongs to liberal (or progressive) Democrats, who in less than a decade have remade themselves. Once respected only in academia and the news media, they have become a fighting force. They systemically digitized the means of political organization and strategy, with the ultimate goal of dominating the political system Crush their spirits! was Daily Kos blogger Markos Moulitsas Zunigas pre-election rallying cry.
The Lefts online movement is consciously modeled after the Goldwater-and-Reagan-era conservative movement. To those trying to build the Left, the vast right-wing conspiracy was an object not of scorn, but of admiration. They studied the Rights network of think tanks, issue groups, and talk-show hosts, looking for clues on how to push a message with brutal efficiency. They took these lessons to heart and shaped them to fit the web. Ironically, todays Right has much to learn from them.
The Left has created not just a collection of unshaven bloggers but a machine that beat the Right at its own game.

uh... no mention of generations of communist brainwashing in the public education system and the blatant bias of the media...
The big lie, told often enough, is eventually accepted as truth.
the key ingredient is enthusiasm. It cannot be manufactured. It has to be felt.
Money talks - even for bloggers...
The author misses the cause-and-effect. Controlling the education of our youth, AND the outlet by with the masses get their information, the left has brainwashed a generation.
My enemies cannot crush my spirit. Unfortunately my "friends" in the Republican party did that already with a multiyear spending spree that even had drunken sailors telling them to calm down with the checkbook.
The left faces an insurmoutable hurdle to building a counterculture network which will broadcast their unheard message - you can't rebel against yourself. They own the culture, the message, the networks, the music, the television, the movies, the news divisions, the wire services, etc.
It's difficult for the right to study the left and learn tactics when we're playing a completely different game on an upside down field.
As the article notes though, the left can mimic the right to encroach upon and absorb the few little arenas they've overlooked. The Fairness Doctrine will mop up the last stragglers.
“uh...no mention of generations of communist brainwashing in the public education system and the blatant bias of the media...”
Ditto. If I have to become a monster to “beat” the liberals, forget it. Socialists end up beating themselves when they have a little stint of total power. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely someone once said. Apparently that goes for so-called conservative Republicans as well. People seem to have to have a dose of the liberal/socialists every once in a while to remind them of what they don’t like about them.
Obama was affirmative action taken to the next level.
I have to agree with everyone else here that brings up the leftists’ control of both education and most media, print and otherwise, as the real reason for their success.
The only way to fix this problem is to encourage conservatives to go into those professions.
The truth will win out, but only if enough people are voicing it. And we must before it is outlawed.
Interesting how much intellectuals have molded the minds of the next generation.
They have tremendous power and are generally underestimated by conservatives.
The key ingredient is to actually BE (or become) conservative; our so “called leaders” even in the conservative media generally do NOT represent the grass-roots of the Republican Party (or conservative-libertarian) individualists.
No matter what else is done, if this is allowed to continue, Conservatism will eventually die in America. Period.
Yes, we do need more conservatives in the educational and media professions, but that means sending young people to liberal institutions where they will have a difficult time holding onto their principles and getting good grades. We need, somehow and I don’t know how, to establish conservative institutions and let them train our children.
A good start would be to let all the donors know how their University rates, kind of a conservative vs liberal rating. So many people don’t realize their money is being used to brain wash students against the very things that make the donors able to fund the Universities.
And a message that anybody can define for him/herself.
If you ask 100 Obama voters what hope and change meant to them, I bet you’d get 100 different answers.

“Interesting how much intellectuals have molded the minds of the next generation.”
Just as in this past election, the voters used the ballots to plunder and it’s going to get worse when the voters don’t get instant gratification. Some US Citizens have been convinced that they are entitled to anothers’ property (income) and talents (health care, for example) and that they can use the force of the US Government to provide for their own needs.
“They have tremendous power and are generally underestimated by conservatives.”
Quite a few ‘conservatives’ don’t know the difference between a ‘liberal’ and a ‘progressive’. They honestly still believe that the ‘dark side’ of communism wouldn’t flourish in the US today. (Since they think it was ‘defeated’.)
Exactly, part of the problem was McCain took two months off while Obamao campaigned against Hilde and organized ACORN behind the scenes.
As for the Koyz Kids, keep in mind Obamao jettisoned the majority of of the issues he used to fundraise among the Koyz Kidz, they provide cash, and little else.
Oh they sputtered when Lieberman was retained, but other then that...nothing..add in Bush Derangement Syndrome and they Dhimmis were preaching to the choir, let’s see what two years of Dhimmicrat complete control brings to the Koyz Types...
