Mormon aid to Prop. 8 investigated (Gestapo)
SFGate ^ | 11/24/08 | na

California officials are planning to investigate whether the Mormon church gave an accurate accounting of its role in the campaign that succeeded in getting a same-sex marriage ban approved in the state.

The action by the California Fair Political Practices Commission came in response to a complaint filed two weeks ago by a gay rights activist. Fred Karger, founder of Californians Against Hate, accuses the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of failing to report the value of the work it did to support Proposition 8. Roman Porter, the agency's executive director, said Monday that the decision to open an investigation does not mean staff members have determined there was any wrongdoing, only that Karger's complaint merits further inquiry.

A representative from the Salt Lake City-based church could not be reached for comment.

You have no idea what you are talking about. You have swallowed a little truth, along with a whole lot of lies. Go ahead and preach. Nothing you say can affect my relationship with the Savior. You have no idea what Mormons believe about Christ.

If you have a true relationship with Jesus, you would understand that you cannot add to the Word any other Gospel. He is revealed through that Eternal Word that will “never pass away”...

... because He is the Word made Flesh. For your own sake, don’t dilute or distort who you worship with diverse and strange ideas that are not His.

Also

Polygamy is a sin in your eyes, right?

If so, how can you believe anything else Joseph Smith had to say, since he was so wrong and in such utter sinfulness about his teachings on polygamy?

The Mormon church hasn’t sanctioned polygamy since the 19th century.

Come on, stop it. Not true. (Stop the lawyerin'). Carmon Hardy's book shows dozens of behind-the-scenes LDS plural marriages between 1900-1910...So, sorry, that's later than "19th century."

Second, let's focus in on that word "sanction" -- I'd say calling polygamy in the future tense the term "the holy practice" is a considerable sanction, wouldn't you?

"Obviously, the holy practice [of polygamy] will commence again after the Second Coming of the Son of Man and the ushering in of the millennium." (LDS apostle Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, 1966, p. 578).

It would be now. But there are concepts like “malum in se” and “malum prohibitum.” Polygamy is currently prohibited. It will get you excommunicated from the Mormon Church. It has been lawfully practiced in the past, and wasn’t a sin.

Our definition of sin differs, then.

If Mormon leadership calls polygamy “of God” one year but the next say it is not a sin, just substitute the word “homosexuality” for “Polygamy” and you have summed up my argument about the hypocrisy of the Mormons backing Prop. 8.

If Mormons can change the definition of sin simply by declaration, what happens to homosexuals if it is more politically expedient for Mormons to align themselves with them? If polygamy is “currently prohibited” when it was previously allowed, couldn't homosexuals argue that perhaps God will allow homosexuality at a later date when He gets with the modern times?

You are on a slippery slope here. I'm not forgetting that Mitt Romney did nothing to prevent gay marriage in Mass. when he had the chance to speak out, btw.

Mitt Romney did everything within his legal power to stop gay marriage. That is just one of the lies that has been ginned up here in FR.

Polygamy and homosexuality are in no way comparable. Polygamy is a natural family grouping that exists in many cultures, especially in cultures where the men frequently get killed because of war, primitive conditions, etc. It was practiced by Old Testament prophets — men of God.

Polygamy allows for procreation, the primary purpose of the family.

Homosexuality is not only immoral, it is deviant.

++

As hard as it is to live the responsibilities of one wife and one family, I too am glade we do not have that extra responsibility today.

It is also a shame that some people make out that having more then one wife is only to dominate and to have sex. By ignoring the responsibilities Heavenly Father put on more then one wife and one family, they can make it sound dirty.

I think the admin has decided we have no right to assemble here.

Admin has decided this thread will not be hijacked. Has nothing to do with 'rights' - you have the perogative to assemble over in the Religion Forum if you wish to discuss Mormonism in general. You have no 'right' to assemble on private property (which FR is) - the rules are quite basic regarding injecting dogmatic discussions into News threads, and I would expect you, as conservatives, to respect the wishes of management here regarding appropriate content in the respective forums.

AT the risk of being harshly corrected, I must wonder why a “ping” is considered a post to be removed. And why do these types of harsh actions only seem to occur when Jim Rob is wrapped in mortal conflict away from FR.

He has appointed you, however, and I respect your wishes.

I will leave this thread to the Mormon propoganda that it is.

Jim is well aware of mod actions regarding thread hijack attempts - all mod actions are logged. Also, the mods have said in a previous thread that pings that clearly are an attempt to draw posters into any News forum Mormon-related Prop 8 thread for an attempt to hijack the thread into a discussion of Mormon doctine in general will not stay up. You have ample leeway to discuss Mormon doctrine on the Religion board. This thread is about intimidation against groups involved in political activism.
