Fans Push Palin for President in 2012 November 23, 2008 01:38 PM ET | Bedard, Paul | Permanent Link By Paul Bedard, Washington Whispers.
For conservative Republicans looking for a fresh face, Sarah Palin wasn't just the GOP flavor of the month.
We hear that several conservatives from the Bush & Reagan administrations are quietly mobilizing a draft movement to make the Alaska governor a 2012 front-runner for prez.
Our intrepid tipster says that they have already purchased a Web address and are commissioning white papers from experts on how the Gipper followed defeats with victories.
They are also drawing up a to-do list for Palin, including who she should meet with domestically and internationally for advice and a "candidate school" to get her up to speed on key issues and electioneering techniques.
Captain Beau Biden Declined an Offer to Replace Joe Biden as Senator
Even before his pop became vice president-elect, Delaware's Beau Biden was on the rise. He was elected attorney general at 37, and the whole Delaware Democratic establishment expected him to be the easy choice to replace his dad in the Senate once Joe Biden takes his new job at the White House. But a higher calling entered. It seems that Beau Biden is one dedicated soldier. Already dispatched to Fort Bliss, Texas, for training with his 261st Tactical Theater Signal Brigade of the Delaware Army National Guard before a year tour in Iraq, Captain Biden spurned an offer to be an absentee senator by taking his dad's spot in Washington. And, family friends say, that isn't all he declined. Before departing for training, National Guard officials raised the issue of security for a vice presidential son in Iraq, clearly aware of other high-profile cases like that of former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's son, who is now serving in Iraq, and that of Prince Harry in Afghanistan. Their offer: Do his tour in Delaware instead. But we hear that Biden, in the judge advocate general's corps, responded with a firm "No Sir!" and has even gone out of his way to avoid interviews and photographers eager for his story. "Beau asked to be treated like any other member of the guard," says a family friend. That was no surprise to daddy Biden, who recalled that in Beau's 2006 attorney general's race, pollsters suggested that he be shown in campaign brochures wearing his uniform. Beau refused because he didn't want to change the easy rapport he had with his fellow guardsman. The VP-elect's reaction to all of this? He was heard telling friends, "I'm prouder of Beau than I am of any title."
Who is that old guy with her?
Hucksterbee should either run for the U.S. Senate in Arkansas, where he is supposedly still popular, or just shut up and go away. We don't need a southern fired McCain pushing global warming, quickie citizenship for illegal aliens and populist redistribution schemes. Even those favoring such stuff will generally vote Democrat because they offer a bigger, better and faster road to socialism.
I think the first battle we need to wage is the one to get Michael Steele at the head of the RNC. Then we need to push the state parties to make primaries closed, ie. no 'Rat crossover voting. And finally, give no quarter to the Drive-By Media.
With a conservative as party leader, the influence of the base strengthened, and the bird flipped to the drive-bys, we'll be able to nominate the conservatives we need to lead the GOP out of the wilderness.
With oil at $44 a barrel now and the budget due in three weeks, we ought to wait a while, let the Gov cook her turkey and deal with the fiscal turkey. Check back in three weeks or after the first of the year.
actually a good idea.
we need as many senate seats as we can get right now and if he is popular the run in his own state.
but you are right on the other points.
As someone said before he is more of a christian socialist with his do gooder views.
I hope he doesn’t run at all for the nomination but runs for the senate seat in his own state to challenge the Dems there.
Actually why didn’t he do this instead of what he did do.
He did great getting the evangelical vote out but he was never going to bring in any other kind of voters at all.
The best thing about this piece is that it’s great to get her hooked up with some good advisers and think tanks. She needs much seasoning if she is going to be a viable national candidate.
I am checking the AK papers everyday monitoring the budget progress up there. Even w/ oil prices and the economy down, I have a feeling she’ll still have a balanced and fiscally conservative budget for next year.
Obama/Clinton know exacly who is a danger to them,
Bill Clinton specially must view Sarah Palin as lethal.
Their plan is the following: call it Part A.
1) Egg on Mitt and Huckabee to run in 2012
2) Use all means necessary to keep Unemployment below 7.9
They know that Huck would win the nomination if Palin is out
They know that Romney would NEVER win the Nomination.
They know that Unless Obama comitts Horrible Mistakes
Huck can never WIN a General Election.
Part B of the Plan: Prevent Sarah from running.
1) use all legislative means to delay, any alaska energy projects. Screw Alaka out of other projects as well.
If she complains the press can label say she lost her touch.
2) Have the State Department warn any foreign leaders to
not Meet with Sarah Palin. A certain Witch I know will abide
3) Throw money at the other “Young Republican” leadership
give them alot of exposure (and make sure they are very
good on Policy & Economics to accetuate the Apparent gap
(to the indepedent voters mind atleast) in Sarah's education.
Sarah P. is the danger to them, she can raise money, she's great on the stump, and you bet she can debate.
As someone mentioned earlier it would be wise of her to hire
people of good trust to watch for her safety.
Ike
What a drop dead gorgeous fox..... and I like her brain too. ;>)
Huckababy will cry himself to sleep and wet his bed over this.
Poor, poor Huckabeeeeee, if only she was a mormon.
I’ll take hillary in a laugher.
Just for everyone’s recollection; Reagan lost the run for prez TWICE before winning. 68 and 76.
This gives me hope that perseverence WINS!!!
She's got plenty of that. And she's got that Reagan charm.
According to the article in the Anchorage paper this morning, the new budget will be written with a baseline oil price of $35/barrel, down from $83 in the last budget. That's a sign to me they've got a grip on reality up there. They do have a budget reserve of $8 billion, including a $5 billion surplus from the last year's high oil prices which they wisely put in the bank.
Jindal is facing the same problem in LA. How they both deal with it will say a lot about their future.
AMen, we have lost everything but now is not the time to give up, hopefully this guy they have put in charge will screw up big time and our chance will be 2012. Funny thing, it seems it has already started!
Unfortunately for your theory, the Clintons are opposed to Obama and would have preferred a McCain victory for purposes of Hillary running in 2012.
They would very much prefer Obama to lose in 2012 so that they can reclaim control of the Democrat Party.
