President-elect Barack Obama has yet to attend church services since winning the White House earlier this month, a departure from the example of his two immediate predecessors.
On the three Sundays since his election, Obama has instead used his free time to get in workouts at a Chicago gym.
Asked about the president-elect's decision to not attend church, a transition aide noted that the Obamas valued their faith experience in Chicago but were concerned about the impact their large retinue may have on other parishioners.
"Because they have a great deal of respect for places of worship, they do not want to draw unwelcome or inappropriate attention to a church not used to the attention their attendance would draw," said the aide.
Both President-elect George W. Bush and President-elect Bill Clinton managed to attend church in the weeks after they were elected.
In November of 1992, Clinton went to services in Little Rock, Ark., on the three weekends following his election, taking pre-church jogs on the first two and attending on the third weekend a Catholic Mass with the Rev. Jesse Jackson, with whom he was trying to smooth over lingering campaign tensions.

Whether the guy goes to church or not, he needs to have his mind and heart turned around.
Like someone said earlier, we’re going to have to pray for his salvation, God’s mercy on our nation and the strength and faith to weather the storms ahead.
We also will need courage to stand for what is right—in love of course, but also without apology. Dark days for the Republic are ahead, I believe.
We must not lose sight of our Saviour, our calling, or our Hope. We cannot do it alone, only through the help of the Comforter sent to be with us.
Correctamundo. When I think of how demanding it is to be President of the United States, I see in Obama someone who is woefully unsuited for the task. Basically, I see him as just a puppet who will partake of the perks of office while ceding the power to the puppetmasters.
Obama called the pastor and told him, “Call me if you need me.”
Even more so, the people who respond to your posts...Those people are seriously deranged...
God doesn’t want any one to worship him who does it out of obligation.
However to answer your question, prayer is not the purpose of worship. You are misguided.
My thoughts exactly.
“(”Wait a minute...”, you think to yourself suspiously.)”
Yup.
That’s the one....:))
For Sure
I doubt we will see Mr. Obama inside of any church the next 4 years.
God knows the end from the beginning,
so I doubt that those verses are an “accident”.
From Article: The Obama aide said the family “look[s] forward to finding a church community in Washington, D.C.”
I find this very interesting given he has been in Washington for about 4 years as a U.S. Senator. I assume this means he never went to church much while in Washington???
Biblical Christianity has never been "do-it-yourself". The preached Word is immensely important for Salvation, and you don't get that sitting at home, even from reading your own Bible. "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the preaching of Christ" (Romans 10:17). The preached Word has salvific effect above and beyond its cognitive content,
You were taught well.
Is the underlying message here that we are supposed to be outraged or something?
What a silly news story.
Prayer is not worship. Prayer is not instruction. Prayer is not prophecy. Prayer is not sharing communion. Prayer is not building each others faith."Pray without ceasing."1 Thessalonians 5:17.
Follow the above scripture and all those things are prayer.
Oh, and remember David?
Not going to church was part of his deal with the devil.
at least bill maher will be pleased.
Big surprise - the ‘infanticide president’ skipping church.
Don’t worry. He’ll show up with a Bible under his arm like Clinton when the going gets tough.
Given his past church-going habits, I’d prefer that he didn’t go to church.
I guess this means President Bush does not have any respect for places of worship. / s>
