Businesses cut prices at a record rate, and builders started fewer new homes last month than anytime on record, according to new government data, as the outlook for the economy continues to dim.

The data helped spur another terrible day for the stock market Wednesday, as did a projection of more hard times ahead by leaders of the Federal Reserve. A serious recession now appears all but assured.

My grandfather was in the CCC. He used to show me all the bridges he helped build. He was really proud of his service and the work he did, and even today when I drove over one of those bridges, I remember him with pride.

But, most people today would run away from that kind of labor and if they were forced to do it, they’d have a “back injury” that would put them on permanent disability for the rest of their lives.

And the ones that really wanted to work would find themselves hamstrung by the ACLU, EPA, OSHA, and the Unions to the point that it would just become a job where you go and sit and collect a check at the end of the day.

"And the country could use alot of infrastructure improvements."

Like building a better border wall than originally concieved? If they built the Hoover Dam they can build that too. This is the right time to do it. Then fly all the illegal aliens left to Acupulco for a paid vacacion.

Likewise. My grandad was a mason and worked in the CCC in upstate New York.

He did alot of work in the state parks, building trails and bridges and overlooks.
Much of it still standing.

My Grandpa planted acres and acres of trees during that time. He was later able to buy up huge tracts of land that he had previously planted. :)

However, it’s a New Day. The youth of today...and even the middle-agers are NOT going to go for some “scheme” where they actually have to perform some form of LABOR to earn rewards.

Good Lord. I can barely find a teen that will sweep the floor at my garden center without feeling that work is “demeaning” to him. *Rolleyes*

People are NOT going to buy into this. They want Pie. FREE pie. And they want it now. And hot from the oven, and there had better be whipped cream on top, d@mmit!

Nothing to worry about as Obama just announced to create
15 million new jobs by 2011.

To blame this mess entirely on liberals is to ignore the problems in the GOP and with this administration. GWB and his administration strayed wildly from conservative principles, and this economy is the result. It was not the liberals in power over the last 8 years, it was a Republican who failed to act like one.

I am hopeful that this economic mess will drive the point home that liberal spending doesn’t work no matter what party does the spending. Maybe then the GOP will get back to its core conservative principles and regain power. I refuse to make excuses for this administration and its failure to live up to conservative principles and values.

No one should worry over a prediction of deflation. As we have seen, the government keeps printing money. We all know what that means...and for you uneducated liberals/socialists/democrats reading this, think Germany circa 1920.

The media notwithstanding, and with tin foil hat cocked at a jaunty angle, I’ve thought that the whole economy was being manipulated by a cabal of billionaires and opinion leaders to get the One elected. Unfortunately, it worked but the process has spun out of their control.

As I said, it’s probably nuts, but it’s not the weirdest thought I’ve ever had.

Well yes, but they are supposed to be loaning them the money, technically speaking, the feds don’t own anything except the bad debt. Which I might add, the feds caused in the first place.

They do want to own the car companies though so they can tell them what not to build, i.e. cars that people want.

Yes. War will be even more likely, IMO.

Well, you knew what I meant...or you wouldn’t have posted to me. :)

I like to think that I’m a “Free Thinker” but mainly I’m a “Beer Drinker,” LOL!

It’s Saturday Night, right? I mean, I unloaded “I-don’t-know-how-many” cut Christmas Trees from this big-@ss truck today and made them look “all pretty” in the yard, so I think I deserve a Miller or two tonight. :)

There's nothing wrong with infrastructure improvements.
But not through a CCC.

Pull ALL the international aid money out of the federal budget, (like the 2 billion we give to Egypt) and put that money to use for bid contracts to build new roads, bridges, sewer systems, etc.

This globalist compassion is a misplaced priority, when we still have people hurting in areas hard hit by recent hurricanes, and our country is in dire financial straits. -and take the prevailing wage requirement out of the bid requirements for all highway projects.

Back in ‘59 small, independent contractors built most of the homes. Today, it’s the volume builders who are responsible for the vast majority of new home starts and those guys are shutting down subdivisions right and left. There’s no one left to fill the void but the few small time guys who are left.

Hate to say it, but we might be needing something like the Civilian Conservation Corps soon.

I know there would be nation-wide enthusiasm for building a wall between The United States and Mexico, and just think of the jobs it would create.
