Gallup: Palin top choice of Republicans to run in 2012
hotair.com ^ | November 22, 2008 | Allahpundit

They’re asking whether various candidates should run, not who the nominee should be, but it’s a fair proxy for enthusiasm. 67 percent say yes to the ‘Cuda, 62 to Romney, 61 to Huck. No one else cracks 50. Among conservative Republicans, it’s Palin 73, Huck 65, Mitt 64; among moderates and liberals, Mitt 59, Palin 48, Huck 46. Based on those numbers, it’s actually Romney who’s best positioned to unite the party.

The more I think about it, the more skeptical I am that all three will run. Even I’m not pessimistic enough to believe the recession will last until 2012, which means The One will inevitably be credited with having succeeded in his chief task by the time his term ends. Huckabee will run anyway because he’s hot to remake the party in his image, but Romney doesn’t strike me as eager for another expensive primary war just to be a sacrificial lamb in the general. My hunch is he’ll run only if Obama looks vulnerable and, even then, only if there are enough social cons running to split the base among them so that his strength with moderates is magnified. (It worked for McCain this year, didn’t it?) If he doesn’t run, I assume Pawlenty will throw in and try to capture those moderates with his “Sam’s Club” rhetoric. He won’t win, but he desperately needs a higher profile if he’s going to make a serious run in the future. (It worked for Huckabee this year, didn’t it?)

The only thing I can say is that whoever they put up I hope they are strong enough to take on Obama. A strong conservative is who it will have to be and quite frankly I don’t envy that person at all. Whoever it is will be torn apart by the media, family disrupted and the country still in a mess. Good luck to whoever the candidate ends up being. I still think if Sarah truly wants this job, she is going to have to camp out in Iowa and New Hampshire and get those people to vote for her.

They don't come much more conservative than me. However, unlike you, I live in the real world where talent and perfection do not often appear in the same person. If I need a lawyer, I don't look for mother Terresa, I look for an intelligent fighter who will commit to what I want him to do, even if he is a little ambivalent on some of the instructions.
Romney was unacceptable because of abortion. Yet he was much more likely to give us Supreme Court justices that we wanted than Obama or even “cross the aisle” McCain. And he was unacceptable because of his health care. Yet he would be very unlikely push that nationally. He stated that what MA wanted was not for everyone, and all states should choose for themselves. Now people are going to find out what socialistic health care is really like.
I am sure your ideas sound very valid to you. Romney represents incarnate evil. He must never see national office.
Unfortunately, your ideas are self defeating. I believe it is called “cutting your nose off to spite your face.”
You helped build the pickle we are in, so enjoy it.

I think any candidate should camp out on FR. Let us give them a real debate, not Gwen Ifil.

Romney is a draft dodging guy, whatever his “religious convictions” are...

Are you suggesting Romney is a Quaker ????

Yes, Romney dodged the draft at least twice 40 years ago...

And he is snide and insulting to the troops now...

he also actually accomplished conservative things, like health care reform. Compare his surplus to romney’s budget busting commonwealth care.

Nice try, but as has been detailed here on Freerepublic time after time, Mitt's record betrayed his presented platform for this last election cycle. Facts are facts, and Conservatives, at least those without another agenda, soundly rejected Mitt Romney. Romney did not represent evil, but he did not represent conservatism either, and that is what we are here for.

So that then leads to the next question. There were two or three basic types of people here on FR trying to sell or support Romney. Those confused by bright shiny objects without a clue, those in love with his stunning good looks, and those who professed ad nauseum Conservative bonafides, and may indeed have them, but had a higher self serving agenda to promote, one that was plain to see here on FR by the company they kept.

So the question, which are you? Your opening statement that "they don't come much more conservative than me" is a first clue...

Don't worry, we already know, it is detailed in numerous threads you have posted responses in.

She's tough.

There's a great video right here of her saying,"Oh golly, this will be fun!" to the opponent whom she proceeded to easily beat in the general election for Alaska Governor.

Ugh! This is hopeless. Just admit that you hate Mormons and get it overwith. It will make life easier for the both of us.

With regards to Romney, what are you contending that he wants to have happen at the Federal level and what effect are you contending that would have on the economy?
