They’re asking whether various candidates should run, not who the nominee should be, but it’s a fair proxy for enthusiasm. 67 percent say yes to the ‘Cuda, 62 to Romney, 61 to Huck. No one else cracks 50. Among conservative Republicans, it’s Palin 73, Huck 65, Mitt 64; among moderates and liberals, Mitt 59, Palin 48, Huck 46. Based on those numbers, it’s actually Romney who’s best positioned to unite the party.
The more I think about it, the more skeptical I am that all three will run. Even I’m not pessimistic enough to believe the recession will last until 2012, which means The One will inevitably be credited with having succeeded in his chief task by the time his term ends. Huckabee will run anyway because he’s hot to remake the party in his image, but Romney doesn’t strike me as eager for another expensive primary war just to be a sacrificial lamb in the general. My hunch is he’ll run only if Obama looks vulnerable and, even then, only if there are enough social cons running to split the base among them so that his strength with moderates is magnified. (It worked for McCain this year, didn’t it?) If he doesn’t run, I assume Pawlenty will throw in and try to capture those moderates with his “Sam’s Club” rhetoric. He won’t win, but he desperately needs a higher profile if he’s going to make a serious run in the future. (It worked for Huckabee this year, didn’t it?)

Jindal/Palin 2012 is a winner!
Why not Bobby Jindal ? I’d say that Jindal has BOTH executive and legislative experience.
If the truth were told about some of our so-called front runners the conservative republicans would have a much more obvious pick. That the numbers are this close is particularly telling, kind of like that “how obama got elected” video.
Jindal is brilliant. I saw him interviewed on Greta recently, and his grasp of the full range of issues is incredible. Obama could never stand up to him in a debate.
LOL. Oh no. No more blue blood Rinos. Romney isn't all bad, and I reluctantly favored him over McCain in the primaries, after Thompson dropped out, but neither he nor Huck are going to unite anything. Palin, Jindal, Cantor, Pence, Steele, Sanford are going to be our top players.
God I hope Palin doesn’t run in 2012. Romney all the way!
I feel genuine shame for the way she was treated (and revulsion at McCain for doing nothing about it).

My guess is that Bobby will become a force to be reckoned with in about ten years. Maybe sooner, but 2012 is too soon.

Agreed. Jindal would be ideal. Romney would be my second choice.

That’s right. We’ve been down the road with “Moderate” and “Compassionate” Conservatism, so no more. There are WAY too many talented young Conservatives out there to cast our lot with RINOs.

That is no doubt. He is the only Person who has the expertise in economics. Of course stupid people don’t have an interest in that. They want someone who is fun and cheery and is the joke of America. Whatever...History will say that the biggest mistake American conservatives and Republicans did was not picking someone with an expertise in economics.
