WASHINGTON – President-elect Barack Obama promoted an economic plan Saturday he said would create 2.5 million jobs by rebuilding roads and bridges and modernizing schools while developing alternative energy sources and more efficient cars.
"These aren't just steps to pull ourselves out of this immediate crisis. These are the long-term investments in our economic future that have been ignored for far too long," Obama said in the weekly Democratic radio address.
The goal is to it quickly through Congress, with help from both parties, after Obama takes office Jan. 20. The plan, which envisions those new jobs by January 2011, is "big enough to meet the challenges we face," he said.
Obama noted the growing evidence the country is "facing an economic crisis of historic proportions" and said he was pleased Congress passed an extension of unemployment benefits this past week. But, he added, `We must do more to put people back to work and get our economy moving again."

Wonderful ... everybody grab a shovel cause O-child gonna recreate the WPA. He wants an universal college education but the jobs he proposes are heavy infrastructure labor? And probably paid for by taxing the high tech stuff out of existence, at least within the United States.
IF BO implements any aspect of his tax the rich plan, there will be ZERO net, new jobs by 2011!!!!

Presidents do not create jobs....companies and opportunites do. Is the “O” willing to get out of the way so this can happen?

Until I read this article, I was not aware there was such a crying need for laborers to build “wind farms and solar panels.”
I just read that this year we lost 1.2 million jobs in 2008 so far. So, he’ll recover half those jobs once this downturn cycle is over.
...and failed.
The unions might take issue with his WPA, CCC plans. That is unless the USA pays union wages and the unions get a cut.

yes, and if people and companies are given generous tax cuts they will do the work themselves of selling wonderfull new electric and other type cars. Aptera and Pheonix motor cars already are and many others will be too. And the big three are finally starting to wake up to the fact that people want low cost and better cars. They have dropped the ball due to the profit margin of selling parts and maintenance of their cars for their dealerships. Great for the dealships but bad for the consumer and now the chicken has come home to roost and the oil companies have stabbed them in the back with the recent huge spike in gas prices.
10 million years from now, there will be 100 billion dumbasses who STILL think that you can grow an economy by having the G. hire people to build those “roads and bridges.” When will this go away?
Ah yes, the greatest of all job creators steps to the fore...the US Government. How reassuring for the prospects of future growth!
Just more smoke and mirrors from BO. The key word in that story is “aim”.
He reminds me of my dog when she finds a rattle snake. She barks real loud, takes small jumps towards the problem but never gets close enough to actually bite the snake. She actually is warning us that a snake is around and then WE get a shovel and kill the snake.
That’s what will happen with this economy and any other problems facing this nation. He will make a lot of noise and wait for someone else to fix the problems.
I am sick of this Green mantra.
When the magic alternative energy resources are built and dominant, then someone will start an agenda to stop them from damaging the environment in different ways. There is no end to this alternative energy BS. The motive is to tear down society, not to get energy from somewhere else.
The same goes for "more energy efficient cars". When these "more energy efficient cars" are built and everywhere, then we will be under attack because they are not 100% efficient (impossible).
Is a "Green Building" really "Green"? There is no such thing. By definition, the only thing "green" is nature, which is what the radical green movement wants. They want an absence of man.
What happened to the 5 million new jobs he promised in March 2008?
Any job that Comrade Zerobama would “create” would be strictly TAXPAYER FUNDED. Remember that the free market and its natural job creation are UNDER ATTACK by these socialists. The government will be GOD and will create and control everything.....no joke!!! (/s)
