Obama to Reboot WPA

Barack Obama is looking towards our collective future while borrowing from our past, apparently. The last time this country was in such a financial downward spiral, a visionary named Franklin - the to-that-point far lesser known fifth cousin of an older and bolder dude named Teddy - became president and rammed through quasi-Socialist legislation to turn this country into a pseudo-Socialist regime. Or so some like to Monday Morning Quarterback still, seventy years later. So, fittingly, pinko-Communist President-Elect Obama is reaching into the past and taking a page directly from FDR’s “get us the hell out of this not-so-Great Depression” playbook. Obama announced his economic plan... and I feel like I’ve heard it before:

President-elect Barack Obama promoted an economic plan Saturday he said would create 2.5 million jobs by rebuilding roads and bridges and modernizing schools while developing alternative energy sources and more efficient cars.

Building roads? Building bridges? Modernization projects? Flying cars? Sounds to me like the Works Progress Administration, Version 2.008 (never heard of it? Educate thyself here).

Well, sounds well and good, Barack. But let’s not forget that the Great War, not the WPA, was ultimately responsible for finally kicking the dust off of American industry and throttling the Great Depression. Not that the WPA (and its other be-acronym’d cousins) didn’t build some great roads, bridges and dams. And if I get my flying car technology, then it’s a raging success. But it does beg the question:

So, President-Elect-Comrade Obama... if we’re really reliving the Great Depression, who are we going to attack to get out of it?

"“He’s creating job opportunities for more Illegals.”

That was my first thought. He’s going to be granting amnesty to illegals and they will need jobs, right? The program will be in place to hand jobs to them.

Right. But there will be work for them BEFORE immigration reform is passed.

Most illegals don't have an education past elementary school. Manuel labor is all they can do. When they break their backs, they will go on disability..

Social Security+Disability+Medicare. This country will go broke.

This is a carbon copy of the Carter years.

I fear it will be much worse. Economic problems compounded by inept foreign policty disasters will produce a perfect storm of unprecedented proportions. Perhaps a "historic" tsunami in view of how naive Americans perceived this election. Bottom line: we're in for a major reality check that will stun this nation to its core.

The unions might take issue with his WPA, CCC plans. That is unless the USA pays union wages and the unions get a cut.

Such a tangled web.

the unions wouldn't mind....these be government union federal employee building them there roads and bridges..

and for the non union workers

I guess this is where the folks on welfare will go. Sort of a change gang.

I saw the real deal once in the South. A chain gang working on roads in the hot sun, complete with horsemen watching over them with those reflecting sunglasses.

Seeing State police in Massashusetts with jodpurs, jackboots and reflecting sunglasses, now THAT was a real crowd control experience.

drill , drill , drill, blah blah blah...people are tired of paying such high variances in fuel and the only solution to that is competition. And it is happening, thank God. Take a look at phoenix motor cars in Ontario, Ca....hardly a golf cart! Or aptera in San Diego...I know we need more drilling but did you know that the oil companies have closed down about 140 refineries in order to lower the flow of gas and keep the prices higher? That is a fact....thetruthbehindhighfuelprices.com.

Here comes that Clinton economy again...guys like me who made $21 hr. pre/clinton had a saying..."I believe Clinton created 22million new jobs....I've got 3 of them"

Simple math, 1 $21hr job divided by 3 (after lay off/outsourcing...spreading the wealth)= 3 $7hr jobs.

Here we go again...what's next, start creating the bubbles again?

Bite me but it makes more sense to spend on repairing infrastructure than bailing out Wall Street banks. Don’t tell me Zero is going to run a sensible approach to governing instead of a hard left turn. That approach will result in riots in all those neighborhoods which voted 98% to Zero
(the other 2% just voted some one else unintentionally).

” A thousand bridges to nowhere. Boy are those college kids gonna be surprised when they get a pick’n’shovel for graduation!”

Truly sad when the media doesn’t realize that these are primarily state type jobs, and as you point out manual labor which many of today’s students have no idea of what that involves.
