(11-19) 16:21 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- The fireplace police descended on the Bay Area on Wednesday.

For the first time ever, residential fires are illegal under a new law, passed in July, that bans home burning on winter season Spare the Air days.

The first such ban took effect at noon. Seventy inspectors from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District planned to spend the day and evening patrolling residential neighborhoods, looking for telltale chimney wisps.

Violators will get warnings by mail. Repeat offenders face fines of as much as $2,000.

The fireplace police say they are determined to keep law and order in the living room.

Were I a resident of that Kommunist Klatch, I’d be ready to shoot to kill any idiot government man that stepped foot on my property. Then again, there isn’t a soul in that city that thinks private property is a right, now is there?

How would one do that in San Francisco? Didn’t they also ban guns?

There’s a lesson in there somewhere... ;-)

I wonder how interested the “fireplace coppers” would be about their continued employment if they started dissapearing?

Pretty soon they'll be checking everyone's toilets to make sure they're of the one-gallon-per-flush variety. (Didn't Hillary who have a part in that ?)

uh, they don’t need to step on your property. If they can’t see the smoke from the street, a quick flyover with infra red photos would do the trick.

May I see your papers, comrade?

residential fires are illegal under a new law

Does this law cover the whole house or just the fireplace?

SF is a santuary city and these bastards are concerned with keeping law and order by making sure you aren’t using your fireplace? Hypocrisy on parade.

Well, we all know these envirowhackos are mentally unbalanced. This is just another example.

They're spending time and money trying to keep people from polluting the air with fireplaces yet they refuse to allow the maintenance of vast woodlands to keep them from burning the countryside for days, thereby putting more pollutants into the atmosphere than would ever be with puny fireplaces.

I love a roaring fireplace and hate the government of San Francisco. Don’t believe in man made global warming.

But soot from burning wood is a serious pollutant and among the worst at damaging lungs. Everyone in my neighborhood has a fireplace and it gets hard to breathe out there at night.

Just saying.

Guns don’t kill people, fireplaces do.
