The Huckabee-nanny-state-sub-group IS a problem.

But the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY Conservative Christians are not of his socialist-from-the-pulpit ilk.

Shedding the Huckabee image is important.

People of the “right” religious mindset understand that the individual chooses to act morally or not, and if forced to by government, that isn’t helping people be any more moral,

any more than socialists confiscating wealth from people makes them more generous.

You are correct...more and more people view ANY Republican as part of the Christian Coalition. There are many that are concerned about entrusting the Country to the far right intolerant religious fringe. They’ve painted the whole Party with that brush and made it hard for voteres to get by that image.

Huckabee made the mistake of seeing that being more Liberal seemed to be working for McCain and copied it. Romney figured there were enough Liberals, so he would act Conservative. Giuliani, who knows what he was thinking? There were good reasons why Huckabee was a real favorite on FR until this election. As with the rest of the GOP team this year, he “played to the perceived crowd” rather than being genuine. The only two genuine candidates on the GOP side got 1% and ignored, or painted as lazy and inconsequential.

The part that I have not clearly understood is ... there are many Christians in the southern half of America that are Christians; and raised life long to be Democrats, (the ole Republicans are for the rich: and Democrats are for the working man) syndrome).

Yet, they are STILL VOTING Democratic knowing all about abortion, late term abortion, stem research wanting to use baby stem cells, etc., growth of homosexual agenda, marriage definition, legislating from the bench(judges changing our Constitution) etc.

How can they in good conscience STILL vote Democratic?
there is a schism between what they believe and how they vote.

A real contradiction is what I see.

The Conservative movement of Reagan was formed from a coalition of religious, defense, and fiscal conservatives. Some religious conservatives (a la Huckabee, Catholic Social Justice types) have abandoned the fiscal/limited govn’t movement and adopted a big govn’t, philosophy - thanks GWB. This is an offshoot of the Compassionate Converservative BS. We need to reestablish the three pillars of the Cons Movement - religion/values, Defense, Fiscal/limited Govn’t. If you can’t support all three, you don’t belong in the Conserv Movement.
