To my friend Kathleen Parker — This act is getting really old.

As Republicans sort out the reasons for their defeat, they likely will overlook or dismiss the gorilla in the pulpit.

Three little letters, great big problem: G-O-D.

I'm bathing in holy water as I type.

One can share moral values...without sharing your religious zeal.

I keep hearing that, but am having a hard time believing we have a more moral and just society as a result.

You will either share the Christian zeal, or the Muslim zeal, take your pick.

When I saw the story about China asserting that it had

“carbon credits for sale”

because of its one child (forced abortion/infanticide) policy,

I knew that the end times indeed are close.

Matthew 24:36-39
The Day and Hour Are Not Known
36 “No one knows about that day or hour. Not even the angels in heaven know. The Son does not know. Only the Father knows.
37 “Remember how it was in the days of Noah. It will be the same when the Son of Man comes.

38 “In the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking. They were getting married. They were giving their daughters to be married. They did all those things right up to the day Noah entered the ark. 39 They knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be when the Son of Man comes.

Amen.

And, preach on, Brother Geo!

I for one know that I am constantly disappointed in my failures. But, I’ve heard it said, “Grace makes beauty out of ugly things.” And, for His grace and mercy, I humbly thank Him.

I am fortunate to go to a church that has never compromised the Gospel. And, it strikes me that I was also fortunate to grow up in a home where I was encouraged to question how the Bible applies to everyday life. Some I know (here in the south) were criticized as “lacking faith” if they questioned what passages or themes in the Bible meant.

This resulted in a shallow faith, based on a lack of understanding, that could not hold up to scrutiny. Thank goodness I have been supported by family and church family that really believed and lived 1 Peter 3:15:

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;

I used to sit on the rail between faith and not so much faith. I pretty much did until the 90's do as you; pretty much defended the republicans and social conservatives until I started reading between the lines and really listenting to what they were saying. I initially bought that the rhetoric was a defensive measure and the desire was to return to a time when there was less in your face from the left.

My getting to know more showed me that less in your face was not the desire, but rather a my belief or the highway force was behind the movement. I frequently ask those who what would happen if a polygraph was employed. Few quickly respond that it would show their intent was benign. Most usually start moving like a three year old who's not quite potty trained but knows an accident is on its way.

Sad.

It was a big mistake for GOD people to have stayed home in this election.

If polls are correct the God people came out and voted big time, maybe the Libertarian Godless wing of the conservatives stayed home.

Frankly, the diversity training happens because so many “sinners’ are stock holders. They get a voice.

McCain has an 80% conservative rating and we still trash him.

But that 20% was some pretty important stuff. If he hadn't have picked Palin, he would have lost like McGovern.

Youth or not, pretty conservative issues are still passed. Defense of marriage in CA and FL, gun carry issues, etc. I still say the Democrats could have run a monkey (ok, a different monkey) and still could have beaten any Republican. With the economy and Iraq, Barry should have won by a much larger margin than he did.

funny; but not thoughtful rational discourse.

I am sorry you don't see the danger, and that is a danger in itself.

Each generation takes to excess, what the previous generation accepted in moderation

America is not in the Bible. think about that for a minute.

Think about it a lot, now think about how this country could become so irrelevant as to not be mentioned in the coming battle?

I Think GW's Israel policy pushed this along.

That whole "I will bless those that bless thee"....thing may be true, huh?

Thoughtful, moral, (and not necessarily religious) capitalist people should be able to unite behind someone who meets most of our needs

And yet he didn't win, and the reason still alludes you?

I am Shocked

I do believe you have constructed a strawman. I just don't understand why.

If you are a Christian, you understand all to well.

Good for you.

90+% of members of the religious right I know are good, kind people with the best of intentions. The fact that Parker can treat such kindness with such venom reveals much about her character. Her playing the “martyr card” tells even more.

Kathleen Parker and people like her are bigots, plain and simple. They are far worse and more hateful than the members of the religious right they despise so. The GOP rightfully has no place for such disgusting people.

The Conservative movement of Reagan was formed from a coalition of religious, defense, and fiscal conservatives. Some religious conservatives (a la Huckabee, Catholic Social Justice types) have abandoned the fiscal/limited govn’t movement and adopted a big govn’t, philosophy - thanks GWB. This is an offshoot of the Compassionate Converservative BS. We need to reestablish the three pillars of the Cons Movement - religion/values, Defense, Fiscal/limited Govn’t. If you can’t support all three, you don’t belong in the Conserv Movement.
