Obama Affirms Climate Change Goals
New York Times ^ | November 18, 2008 | Brian Knowlton

WASHINGTON — President-elect Barack Obama confirmed on Tuesday that he plans to stick to the aggressive targets he had set earlier for fighting climate change and for spurring the development of clean-energy technology, saying, “Delay is no longer an option.”

The remarks were striking for being made in what was billed as a “surprise taped statement,” before a bipartisan conference on climate change in Los Angeles that included governors who have battled the Bush administration by trying to pass stricter pollution standards than federal guidelines require.

Officials from at least 10 other countries were also present, and Mr. Obama addressed his comments to them when he said, “Solving this problem will require all of us working together.” He said he had asked lawmakers who will attend a climate-change conference next month in Poland to report back to him.

Mr. Obama’s remarks were sure to be welcomed by Europeans and others who have been urging the administration to take tougher measures ever since President turned his back on the Kyoto Protocol on climate change in 2001.

...

“Now is the time to confront this challenge once and for all,” Mr. Obama said.

“Denial is no longer an acceptable response,” he added. “The stakes are too high. The consequences, too serious.”

...

Perhaps with those considerations in mind, Mr. Obama cast his planned energy-development measures as vital to economic revival, by generating an estimated five million “green jobs,” as well as critical to national security, by reducing United States dependence on foreign oil.

Is the President-elect aware of the fact that Africa and Asia contribute more to air pollution than the United States does? Is he aware of the fact that we may have to spend trillions of dollars to achieve incrementally tiny improvements in air quality?

That isn’t funny; confiscating the land from the Brits and redistributing it took that country from a net exporter of agricultural products to a country that is starving. Its coming to a country near you.

Were the Kyoto goals based on total national emissions or per capita emissions? If it is total, then every new baby born or new immigrant (legal or illegal) divides the pie of allowed energy production into even smaller slices.

By the time the cap and trade program is up and running, we will be heading into the next ice age. This is going to be a severe winter and global warming stopped in 1998.

That may be the solution: immigration. Japan has a population density 10 times that of the U.S. which means we can increase our population to 3 billion to equal Japan.

“Denial is no longer an acceptable response,” he added. “The stakes are too high. The consequences, too serious.”

This is what happens when you have a lawyer in charge of science, an affirmative action lawyer, no less. It is not a matter of denial, but seeking the truth based on science and supported by facts. There is simply no real basis for claiming that the current global warming is caused by mankind, particularly carbon dioxide emissions. Global warming is caused by the Sun. Furthermore, we very well may be at the end of the recent global warming period and moving into something else in connection with our climate change.

While it is important to conserve energy, going overboard because you think that mankind is causing global warming demonstrates specious reasoning, and a disordered mind. This lack of ability to reason is insane, and will destroy our country.

What we have here is the result of the cumulative affect of affirmative action on our entire system. For years across the institutions of America we have been meeting quotas instead of hiring the best person for the job. We have dumbed down our institutions and system of government to the extent that we may be beyond repair.

Did NASA really admit that the 1930’ were the warmest on record? Any cite for this? It's been colder ten years in a row, with last winter being the coldest in 50 years. The 30's were warmer than the 90's, long before the increase in human CO2.

To disprove global warming, all you need is a thermometer and a farmer’s almanac.

Damn the Science, Full Speed Backwards. The Messiah should also pass a law making Pi an even 3.0. that will make the new global warming inventions even easier.

LOL! I thought I had a snappy quip on how Obama was ignoring real science in favor of (and with full support of our tax dollars) the snake oil salesmen touting global warming, but, lol, you said it!!

There must be some carnival hawkers and snake oil salesmen from a hundred years ago spinning in their graves over their missed opporutnity!

"Mr. Obama repeated his campaign vow to reduce climate-altering carbon dioxide emissions by 80 percent by 2050,"

No problem, let's eliminate all industry, and go back to the stone ages. Now that's real change.

I have a better idea. All Democrats are now forbidden from using automobiles, home electricity, and natural gas.
Walk, huddle, and starve, you bastards.

Everything this guy knows is wrong. He is an economic nightmare.

And 100% of the blame for the economic disaster will be placed on Bush and the GOP with MSM concurrence. After all, he inherited such a mess.....

Actually, this economic crisis should pretty well take care of the industry in this country.

But we must do more. Especially those who are so committed to Obama.

I think all of the folks who voted for Obama should stop exhaling.

Mid-November here in the Thumb area here of Michigan used to be cold and rainy. As of today, the forecast calls for temps in the low 30’s for the highs, and down in the teens for the overnight. Global warming my ass. I’ll burn everything that I can to stay warm this winter. It’s gonna be a cold one.
