I find Rand’s work to be more relevant than ever. I am glad for her sake that she did not live to see what is happening now. As you might guess by my Freeper name I love this book.
Just read Anthem, 3/4 through fountainhead right now. Interesting corollaries
Personally, I found the movie to be a big disappointment. You can’t distill what’s in the Fountainhead in a 90 minute movie. Tivo it from Turner Classic Movies — it’s not worth buying even though Ayn Rand did the screenplay.
Thanks....will have to get TIVO to do that....maybe Redbox will have it....LOL. Or maybe Craigslist
Try renting it from your public library! Maybe I’m being too harsh but reading the book is so much better than the movie it’s not even close.
Rand should be required reading for all.
At the time, I didnt care who the hell J.R. was or why anyone would want to shoot him. But it sure did promote the T.V. series. There were bumper stickers, T-shirts and television commercials depicting and exploiting all known avenues of absurdities.
Why cant we (Conservatives) simply emblazon (Who is John Galt?) on everything we own? Houses, signs, t-shirts everything? We will never ever have the support of the MSM, but after awhile of silent commentary even they will have to investigate this weird phenomena.
What do you think?
It’s not that hard to understand. Rand was the ultimate hedonist. Her philosophy is all about the gratification of the self and the indulgence of the ego.
I suspect she would be 100% in agreement with Obama on the issue of abortion.
I wish Freepers would stop quoting Rand. Just because she agrees with conservatives on some issues doesn’t mean we should champion her. Islam too agree with conservatives on some issues, but you won’t see me quoting the Koran either.
Because in the end Objectivism and Islam both come from the same place. Hell.
Every child must read Brave New World, Animal Farm and The Fountainhead.
Well..then, I’ll probably be disappointed...as I’ve read it...just wondering if a certain 18 yr old niece would get anything out of the movie
It won't be. It can't be. Just too long. A mini-series perhaps, but still, those long soliloquies are almost impossible to translate to film.
-Ayn Rand-
I read “The Virtue of Selfishness” when I was I think 19 years old. I will read it again soon I hope.
I certainly did not grasp Ayn Rand's ideas when I was so young. Fortunately, my kids do. I think so.
I remember very well the “who shot J.R.” ad campaign. It was very effective. You are right, we will never have the support of the MSM that much is clear. They will continually portray us as the lunatics because we will not embrace socialism. I have no idea what campaign might work, but the Repubs better get it right next time because time is running out. Our deficit is spiraling and businesses are afraid to invest in this climate.
Hmmm,I know your right I am a Christian but part of me sometimes agrees a lot with her.
I’ve been thinking about how to ‘market’ conservatism. We have to appeal to the rebel in our youth. Right now, to be a Republican is to really be an outsider in college. That rebellious spirit that over throws the status quo has is what young conservatives have to market themselves as. Dare to be different. Don’t be a sheep and follow the pherd. Vote Republican. I know it sounds wacky now, but we have to be the edgy ones now, not the crazy ones.
Respectfully sir, time is out. Now what?
The devil often comes disguised as an angel of light. But he still intends to lead us to hell.
Rand is part of the problem, not the solution.
Radix, I read your profile. OMG, how do you continue to thrive and succeed in such a hostile environment? I wouldnt last two minutes there. God bless you sir; youre a bigger man than I.
One of my favorites....
When you consider socialism, do not fool yourself about its nature. Remember, that there is no such dichotomy as human rights versus property rights. No human rights can exist without property rights. Since material goods are produced by the mind and effort of individual men, and are needed to sustain their lives, if the producer does not own the result of his effort, he does not own his life. To deny property rights means to turn men into property owned by the state. Whoever claims the right to redistribute the wealth produced by others is claiming the right to treat human beings as chattel. - Ayn Rand
