AP: Palinmania may stop Romney from running in 2012

AP: Palinmania may stop Romney from running in 2012

Eh. If there’s any truth to it, I’d say Ambinder is a lot closer to the real reason than the AP is.

The surprising ascendancy of McCain’s eventual pick, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and her popularity among some GOP conservatives have left Romney wondering whether he could wage a viable second campaign for the White House, according to friends and advisers…

“While (Palin) may not be popular with the winning majority that Barack Obama put together, she’s enormously popular with the losing minority that John McCain put together — and that pretty closely mirrors Republican primary voters,” said Rich Bond, former chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Charley Manning, a Massachusetts Republican operative who has worked as a Romney adviser, recently told a local radio interviewer: “I’d be surprised if Mitt ever ran again for president. I sure don’t think it was the best experience of his life.”

Taking on the ‘Cuda is a fool’s errand only if two things occur: (1) the economy recovers, leaving Mitt without an obvious argument for why the base should prefer him to her, and (2) Huckabee doesn’t run, thereby ceding social cons to Palin. Number one is obviously more important than number two since a sustained crisis would give the GOP a shot at the White House; absent that, I’m not sure why any Republican would want to run in 2012, especially a guy like Mitt who had to eat a ton of campaign debt this year and would probably end up on the hook for a ton more trying to take down The One’s money machine.

For a guy who’s supposedly sour on the idea, though, he sure seems to be making the right moves:

Almost every modern recent GOP nominee ran and lost in the primary before. The exception is G.W. Bush who obviously had establishment support because of his family. McCain, Dole, Bush, Reagan (both times) had ran before.

CNN IS PIMPING ROMNEY Is Romney the man to save GOP in 2012? I JUST SAW THIS SOMEONE SHOULD POST THIS ARTICLE!

This is how it starts. Bookmark it.

The Drive-Bys start pimping RINOs like Mitt. RINOs like Mitt take the bait and the next thing you know, we have three or four RINO's running for nomination like we did this election cycle.

Don't let this happen again. We must pick our own nominee.

Any ticket with RINOs like FLIP ROMNEY on it will follow the same path that McLame took...

ROAD TO CONCESSION.

Conservatives only need apply to get the nomination.

Mitt is very smart- he is an asset to the Republicans in describing economic policies that will work.

There are million of voters who would vote for him if he was NOT Mormon. That is not a slam at Mitt- it is a fact.
If he was Luthern- Catholic- whatever-—he would garner more votes.

He is charismatic- he speaks very well- is photogenic- is a hard worker- but he is Mormon.

Sarah would be a broader choice for a candidate, and having Mitt in the Cabinet would make much more sense to me. Having him in Commerce or Treasury dept would be a better and more useful fit, IMO.

He did a masterful job of saving the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. They were drowning in a sea of red ink, and were infighting about the most mundane items. He came in and told them what to do- NOW- and if you are not part of the solution—you are part of the problem and you are
gone and I can replace you in a heartbeat.

He stuck to his word and solved a huge problem.

“Through the help of consultants, teachers, and the internet”

Good point, I admire Sarah so much and I don’t want to be patronizing or rude but I really hope she has the best around her and I hope she studies very, very hard. I recently saw the interview in her kitchen and Todd Palin was speaking. I may get flamed but he sounded really dumb quite frankly. If he is her main confidante that will not help her speaking skills.

Palin/Jindal 2012. (or 2016 if Hussein is riding high)

Agreed. I wish Steele would move to a redder state and run for governor. Head of the RNC is not bad though.

Hunter would be a good choice for an older VP.

Guess who said this:

“Well, the fact that Romney campaigned on a abortion rights, gay rights, illegal alien rights, universal health care, gun grabbing platform must’ve fooled the MA voters. He’s a liberal like Arnie. And Arnie didn’t work out well for California either. Never again! If Romney tries to run for president again, I swear I’m going to glue his pro-abortion, pro-liberal agenda videos and speeches to the top of every Free Republic page and thread. Especially the one where Romney (with a slick/smug/evil smile on his face) is pushing for abortion “rights” for under age girls even without parental notification as long as a judge approves it. He’s one sick puppy.”

Jim Robinson is right!

“I guess the title of this article is deceiving.
WITHIN the acticle is this...

CNN IS PIMPING ROMNEY”

Sure they are. They would love for the GOP to destroy its self by running the queer loving gun grabbing abortionist!

Good.

Now, here's my advice for Sarah:

1. Enjoy the afterglow for a few more weeks.

2. Once Obama takes office, dig in to your job in Alaska. Produce results that benefit the citizens. Develop an even stronger resume.

3. Avoid the media. Decline any on camera or print interviews with any national media outlets.

4. Behind the scenes, watch every move Obama makes very closely, take notes, and develop counter arguments on how you would have done it differently with better results.

5. Galvanize conservative support, especially on the web. Use existing supporters to become more organized in an unofficial manner.

Do not be fooled by the media attention, folks. The job is very simple: over expose her so by the time 2011 hits, we'll all have Palin Fatigue syndrome. This is precisely why the five steps above are critical for Sarah to be the 2012 nominee.

I’m all for Palin starting her Presidential campaign now. I’d give her $100 a month for the next four years.”

I am not up to speed on what the current campaign donation limits are. Can you advise?

Also- can we start a 527 or whatever for a wrdrobe for Sarah’s next campaign? I don’t want any snarky media type saying one single word about what money was spent out of a “campaign donation” or RNC money that might have been spent to put her and her family into a larger wardrobe.
Can you give me any info about something like that?

I sent her a letter last week and told her to put me on any donor list she might be maintaining- but I would like a group to put up funds for her and her family’s wardrobe.

Of course, you know the Left will deride and criticize him as an Uncle Tom and a Sellout and a House N____ and all sorts of abusive derrogatories and the MSM will totally ignore him. He will be the Invisible Man....................

I doubt the media will ever let another Repulican be president and so far we have not found anything or anyone to over power the media.

Todd Palin should be the first to see that she’ll need to study, etc., for 2012, and arrange as much of that as he can. She will now have as much money and as many connections as she needs to get her up to speed, and when she comes out the other side (”My Fair Lady” comes to mind), watch out Obama!

I like the “My Fair Lady” comparison. If Palin gets three or four Henry Higgins figures, and drills over and over again, wow. Sarah the Barracuda will grow into a very big fish indeed.

LOL, Willard did a great job of covering up the fraud

I love Sarah and have been a huge supporter of hers but after watching some of her interviews she is going to need a speech coach and much more. We can’t afford to lose another election because the media will tear someone apart at a weak seam.

Sarah has to find a way to rebuild her reputation before she can be considered a serious contender. The media will be salivating to take another bite of her.

You don't need to worry...If you have a person who can TALK his way through interviews and make the Interviewer look stupid instead of the other way around, we are in good shape..

BUT just in case, it would be nice to have dirty pictures of MSM people...just in case

We need candidate who can get lots of votes per campaign dollar spent. Romney is exactly the opposite....spend a zillion campaign dollars and still not get many votes.
