It's been a week and a half since Barack Obama was elected president. He won't take office for another two months. But he's already got one big group of Americans on their feet.
What is Barack Obama's position on the right to bear arms? Sen. Obama's campaign Web site says he "respects the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms." It promises he will "protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase, own, transport and use guns."
Seeking to reassure gun owners, Mr. Obama told a campaign audience in Ohio in October: "I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won't take your handgun away."
But the crowds mobbing America's gun stores this week say a large number of Americans -- including first-time gun buyers -- don't believe him.
In 2003, while serving in the Illinois Legislature, Mr. Obama voted in favor of a bill in the Judiciary Committee that would have made it illegal to "knowingly manufacture, deliver or possess" so-called "semi-automatic assault weapons," reports Chris Cox, chief lobbyist for the National Rifle Association. "Under this bill, a firearm did not actually have to be semi-automatic to be banned. According to definitions in the bill, all single-shot and double-barreled shotguns 28-gauge or larger, and many semi-automatic shotguns of the same size, would be banned as 'assault weapons.'

What is a "pistol bureau"? I assume its a bureaucratic establishment to prevent the exact thing it is named for.
Small point in such a big problem as making sure the 2nd Ammendent means something....but we have to start insisting they name these anti-freedom bureaus for what they actually do!! How about the "Pistol Disapprovement Bureau"?
In the eventuality of having the BATF coming after your registered handgun or rifles I would think its not a bad idea to *report*your*recently*purchased*gun*as*as*stolen*.
This will not remove you from the files but if done correctly and convincingly can get you out of the spotlight for awhile.
No first plan survives enemy contact, prepare to lose any firearm eventually, if you have a big mouth more than likely someone will be tempted to turn you in for a big reward.
Consider other alternatives such as bear pepper sprays, sound/strobe flashlights, body armor and martial arts.
Knives I won’t even go there except a Leatherman multitool is suggested.
Another item of something I would consider is that if things do get really nasty and you are trying to flee a situation is that most likely you will not get shot by a bullet but by a taser.
In that case I would consider some simple protection such as a home made vest made of materials to prevent barbs from reaching your body. My fist thought would be a lightweight wetsuit, or for the budget minded a vest of inner tube rubber.
Any part of the body can get hit and it WILL shut you down.
Being winter I can think that simple wraps of shipping bubble wrap around arms and legs would help.
Laugh all you want trolls and make fun of this, which side of the tasers will you be on?
We know who you are!
Please stand by for an invasion of your privacy!

never owned a gun. Husband does not hunt. But bought my first pistol last night....and it felt good!
bump! bump! bump!
Wow, can I ask what city and state such ‘garbage police’ rule?
It’s a town outside of Buffalo, NY in EEEEERIE County called Cheektowaga.
The pistol bureau is just the department where you go to add (or delete) any of your handgun purchases/sales.
Don't feel bad...he stole it from Claire Wolfe.
That’s the one I saw just the other day. Maybe it was you who posted the link. Appears very nicely done.

Good post potlatch
“Refresh” my last post.....
It fit my M44 very nicely
I have a serious question. I've read many threads about people hiding their guns in the future. Many here are talking about recently signing up with the NRA or other gun associations.
Why expose the fact that you support and HAVE guns by signing up with these organizations?
.
The NRA has a huge number of voters who are family and friends of actual NRA members
These exit poll numbers are respected and/or feared by politicians - well over 65,000,000 in 2000
The NRA also has a huge influence through ads and lobbyists and training programs
It takes money to do this and NRA membership dues provide that
What is not known to most of Americans is that radical liberal democrat gun-grabber politicians and/or activists own and carry handguns themselves:
(D-NY) US Senator Chuckie Schumer
(D-CA) US Senator Diane “Di-Fi” Feinstein
(D-NY) NY Atty General Andrew Cuomo
(D-NY) has-been William Jefferson Clinton
(D-NAZI) Sarah Brady - $27,000+ a night for speaking
