Ron Paul: GOP Should Ask Why U.S. Is On The Wrong Track
CNN.com ^ | November 12, 2008 | Ron Paul

(CNN) -- The questions now being asked are: Where to go from here and who's to blame for the downfall of the Republican Party?

Too bad the concern for the future of the Republican Party had not been seriously addressed in the year 2000 when the Republicans gained control of the House, Senate, and the Presidency.

Now, in light of the election, many are asking: What is the future of the Republican Party?

But that is the wrong question. The proper question should be: Where is our country heading? There's no doubt that a large majority of Americans believe we're on the wrong track. That's why the candidate demanding "change" won the election. It mattered not that the change offered was no change at all, only a change in the engineer of a runaway train.

The Cassandra of Congress, Dr. Ron Paul...
Limiting government power and size with less spending and a balanced budget as the goal used to be a "traditional" Republican value. This is what Goldwater and Reagan talked about. That is what the Contract with America stood for.

The opportunity finally came in 2000 to do something about the cancerous growth of government. This clear message led to the Republican success at the polls.

Once the Republicans were in power, though, the promises faded, and all policies were directed at maintaining or increasing power by trying to whittle away at Democratic strength by acting like big-spending Democrats.

I disagree with him on monetary policy and am less laissez faire in some ways (Friedman, Hayek, and Sowell are my economic homeboys) but I want him to stick around; we need more like him.

Ron Paul is right again. The GOP is sinking it’s own ship. They have a serious problem with perception as the party of war (read ‘wanting war’) and torture (to name 2 issues), and by excluding people like Ron Paul they strengthen this notion and push otherwise potential Republican voters out of the “tent”.

We’re supposed to be the party of limited government and Constitutionalism, but where has that been in the past 8 years?

Hmmm, let me think... Socialist control the MSM and the editorial boards of the print media gave Obama a complete pass. McCain was an idiot to take public financing; McCain wrote the laws that allowed Obama to take $300 MILLION in illegal contributions. Socialist clerks and bureaucrats run our government. Game, set and match, Dims. And we’re still trying to ‘reach across the aisle’ while the Dims are giving the Pubbies a reach around.

It’s amazing how we had everything all wrapped up so neatly and then managed to flounder it and pass programs like No Child Left Behind and Medicare Part D.

Federal spending increased from 1.9 trillion to over 3 trillion under Bush, NOT including the bailouts right? I used to think that the debt clock reaching 10 trillion was not a problem to be worried about for another few years at least. That was less than 6 months ago and we’ve gone well past 10 trillion.

I’m surprised you have the decency to want say you want him around. Most people just dismiss him as a kook even if they agree with 90% of what he says.

Actually, it would be more accurate to say...

With the Obama Camps, the Obama Youth, the Obama Truth Squads, the Obama Internet boiler rooms, and the appointments to the Cabinet, the future of the Republican Party is THIS:

"Are you now, or have you ever been, a Republican?"

Which will result in THIS:

(Translation) "Whites Only"

Hey Ron, get your head out of your rump and consider being on the front line AGAINST Obama’s unconstitutional power grabs instead of working against the GOP who are OUT OF POWER.

It isn’t about “the party” it’s about “the country”.

P!ssing and moaning about the GOP’s actions in 2001 (Bush was not seated until Jan 20, 2000 and by September 2001 had been distracted) is not going to keep our airwaves free of government intrusion, our nation safe from a nationalized police force, or gun owners safe from being put on a list.

It is okay to be hesitant to go to war but absolutely NO president should be OPPOSED to leading this nation in war. It comes with the office of the presidency, a role as Commander in Chief.

Not much there I disagree with. He seems to be one of the few people in DC who have actually read the Constitution.

He didn’t get enough votes in the primaries, even WITH crossover Democrats voting for him.

Ron Paul didn’t win because he wasn’t allowed to win.
