Catholic bishops plan to forcefully confront Obama
Chicago Tribune on-line ^ | November 11, 2008 | Manya Brachear, Tribune staff reporter

BALTIMORE - America's Roman Catholic bishops, long one of the leading political forces against abortion, vowed on Tuesday to accept no compromise for the sake of unity until there is legal protection for the unborn.

About 300 prelates gathered here for their national meeting adopted a formal blessing for a child in the womb and advised Chicago's Cardinal Francis George as he drafted a post-election letter to America's Catholics. The moves were meant to tell the incoming Obama administration, which supports keeping abortion legal, that the nation's Catholic bishops are stepping up their opposition to abortion.

"This is not a matter of political compromise or a matter of finding some way of common ground," said Bishop Daniel Conlon of Steubenville, Ohio. "It's a matter of absolutes. Either you didn't have slavery or you did have slavery. So it is with abortion."

Bishops Thomas Paprocki of Chicago said the Freedom of Choice Act could threaten conscience clauses, putting Catholic health care institutions in jeopardy.

"There are grave consequences," Paprocki said. "If Catholic hospitals were required by federal law to perform abortions, we'd have to close our hospitals."

Yes, but they also put out that document filled with the usual equivocation, which gave the party of parsing an opening.
The problem is that the Church has been feminized and cannot condemn evil men.

Step one, in every communication, in every presser and article in Catholic publications, call this thing by its proper name, murder.
Step two, public excommunications, including people who display yard signs and bumper stickers, for they give public support to a grave sin.
Ste[ three, decouple abortion and the death penalty, couple the issue with euthanasia instead.
Step four, call for and lead civil disobedience. Evidently nothing awakens Americans more than the picture on TV of white people being arrested. Imagine if the perp is wearing the robes of the Church.

From the article: "There are grave consequences," Paprocki said in an interview. "If Catholic hospitals were required by federal law to perform abortions, we'd have to close our hospitals."

Well yes. That's what the government wants.

George agreed that losing federal funds would put Catholic health care facilities, which make up a third of the nation's hospitals, out of business.

Yes indeed, that's the idea.

Closing Catholic hospitals would put many patients seeking charitable care from those facilities at risk, he added.

Of course. Once they've put the competition out of business, and severely reduced the influence of the Catholic Church, they will have created millions more needy people for the government to take care of. Why, they'd have to double everybody's taxes!

Well, just to be fair, my complaint was not limited to Catholics... fact is, they are far more vocal about the issue than many others. I’m just so sick of the lack of outrage from the church (body of Christ) as a whole.

It’s always been silent rage rather than overt, but with Zero pushing for more SS organizations, it’ll get more overt.

These statements should have been made before the election ... after the Kerry debacle.

How many children died and will die because of their lack of courage we will never know.

As Christians we are to pray for and obey our leaders, unless they are in direct opposition to God’s will. Obama is in direct opposition to God on so many issues, namely abortion and homosexual marriage, that I cannot support him. I will continue to pray that obama changes his ways.
