Obama victory took root in Kennedy-inspired Immigration Act

[T]he greatest Kennedy legacy to Obama [is] the Immigration Act of 1965, which created the diverse country that is already being called Obama's America.

...

It transformed a nation 85 percent white in 1965 into one that's one-third minority today, and on track for a nonwhite majority by 2042.

Before the act, immigration visas were apportioned based on the demographic breakdown that existed at the time of the 1920 Census - meaning that there were few if any limits on immigrants from Western and Northern Europe, but strict quotas on those from elsewhere.

The belief that the United States should remain a nation of European lineage was openly discussed when immigration laws were revisited in 1952. The resulting bill, the McCarran-Walter Act, was notorious for giving the State Department the right to exclude visitors for ideological reasons, meaning that a raft of left-wing artists and writers - including Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, British novelist Graham Greene - and scores of others were denied visas. But it also had the effect of maintaining the 1920s-era notion of the United States as a white nation. (Congress imposed the bill over President Truman's veto.)

A decade later, attitudes were changing, and President Kennedy proposed a new immigration structure that would no longer be based on national origins. After Kennedy's assassination, his brother Ted took up the fight, pushing the Johnson administration to go even further than it wanted in evening the playing field. Though Lyndon Johnson, in signing the bill, tried to reassure opponents that it wouldn't do much to change the balance of immigration, its impact was dramatic.

In the 1950s, 53 percent of all immigrants were Europeans and just 6 percent were Asians; by the 1990s, just 16 percent were Europeans and 31 percent were Asians.

Thank you for breathing some common-sense into this thread.

If America was not being overrun by white liberal ideology, we’d have little to fear from immigrants. If Bill Ayers’ philosophy were not running 90% of American education (like he does), we’d be better off.

I completely agree.

you can also directly correlate the rise in crime, broken families, sexual promiscuity and all other ills of current american society to the immigration act of 1965.

sorry folks but the truth hurts.

Democrat President John F. Kennedy is lauded as a proponent of civil rights. However, Kennedy voted against the 1957 Civil Rights Act while he was a senator, as did Democrat Sen. Al Gore Sr. And after he became President, Kennedy was opposed to the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. King that was organized by A. Phillip Randolph, who was a black Republican. President Kennedy, through his brother Atty. Gen. Robert Kennedy, had Dr. King wiretapped and investigated by the FBI on suspicion of being a Communist in order to undermine Dr. King.

Excerpt from book by Frances Rice. Why MLK was a Republican

. Republicans also started the NAACP and affirmative action with Republican President Richard Nixon’s 1969 Philadelphia Plan.

During the civil rights era of the 1960s, Dr. King was fighting the Democrats who stood in the school house doors, turned skin-burning fire hoses on blacks and let loose vicious dogs. It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools.

When the 1965 act was passed, everyone was assured (by Teddy Kennedy himself) that the bill wouldn't change America's demographics. Once it became apparent that it was indeed changing our demographics, we were told that it wouldn't make any difference. Now we're told that it did make a difference, allowing a Third World Marxist with a Muslim daddy from Kenya to be elected, and we're all supposed to celebrate this change. Twenty years from now, when a black radical House speaker chooses a Jeremiah Wright-type demagogue for chaplain, we'll be instructed to celebrate still further. Besides, the new Hate Speech Codes won't permit us to do anything other than celebrate.

Barack Obama is an American. How is he “Third World”? He was born in this country. Marxist he is, but unless you have some evidence that he is not an American, he is defnitely not Third World

Everything bad that has happened to this country (almost) started in the 1960’s). The liberals have won. They are willing to NEVER give up and push and push and push. Gay marriage will be the law of the land in a matter of time. I feel the 2nd amendment will be gutted. We will have nationalized health care. I am glad I am not going to be here for a long time to have to put up with the oppresion for very long. Sad.

He’s Third World because he views the world through Third World lenses. He sees America as the cause of all the problems in the world, he wants a global tax to transfer wealth from America to the Third World, he wants to open the borders to allow the Third World to migrate here.

Then the 1965 act is not the reason. There are enough whites who view the world in Third World lenses in here, for example the Clintons and Kerry who want to do exactly the same thing as Obama. So even if 1965 act had not been passed, the direction of the country would not have changed.

Not anytime soon.

Conservatives are in a real quandry.

If the next GOP nominee runs on a platform of limiting immigration, they will guarantee that hispanics will vote in huge percentages for the Democrat, thus ensuring their victory.

If they run on a McCain/Bush platform of unending immigration with a borderless country, then many conservatives will stay home.

Demographics = destiny.

I agree that things look dim demographically but here’s the truth concerning the 2008 election. If McCain had gotten the same Hispanic vote that Bush got in 2004 he would have still lost every battleground state with the possible exception of North Carolina.

I have not analyzed the numbers...I’m almost too scared.

We gotta do something, and counting on the white vote only just won’t cut it, b/c the Liberals will always get their 40% of whitey.

Just saying that the Hispanic vote didn't lose the election for McCain this time.

But the problem is how to attract people to conservatism that embrace socialism. It's not an easy question to answer.

So why are the states that are turning from red to blue (California, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina) mostly states that are filling up with immigrants?

If your theory is right why are the states that are already deep blue (Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan, Washington, Oregon , Maine) do not have that high a proportion of immigrants?

Besides North Carolina (as noted by many here on FR) has become filled with Yankee liberals from NY and NJ causing it to turn purple from red. Immigrants play a part but are not entirely responsible for the leftward shift of North Carolina or the US for that matter.

Actually, New York & New Jersey do have a ton of immigrants. However, the states you listed have always been fairly liberal. Exceptions are Vermont & Maine which, like New Hampshire, were once fairly conservative but have filled up with white leftists fleeing from MA, NY, and NJ, in part to escape from "diversity". That's also true in Colorado, where the southern tier of the state and Denver are filling up with immigrants, while the Denver suburbs are filling up with liberal white Californians fleeing because of "diversity" and its consequences.

No one ever said that there were zero leftists here prior to 1965, just that the immigration wave triggered by that year's law has provided the tipping point. This is why 1988 was the last presidential election where the GOP won easily. By 1992, a combination of immigrants, immigrant children turning 18, and low birth rates among whites started reaching critical mass, wiping out our advantage over the left. Combined with the existing white liberals, the growing minority population put the Dems back in contention for the first time since their radical leftist lurch in the late sixties. (They won in '76 with Carter, but only because he was an unknown who successfully ran as a conservative). Now the Dems are creating an electoral lock of their own, having taken California (immigration) and other states (immigration or liberal whites fleeing from the diversity they advocated).

Incidentally, the "youth vote" is so liberal and so hyped to turn out now because it's far less white than the older vote. Kids in elementary school now are even less white, and wait'll they turn 18 in a decade or so. Plus, the white kids have been imprinted thoroughly in diversity dogma that is directly connected to the demographic changes in the nation.

Besides North Carolina (as noted by many here on FR) has become filled with Yankee liberals from NY and NJ causing it to turn purple from red. Immigrants play a part but are not entirely responsible for the leftward shift of North Carolina or the US for that matter.

It's both. NC is filling up with Mexicans in the smaller counties and Yankee liberals in Raleigh-Durham. It's a symbiotic relationship. The Dems can afford to field anti-American candidates because there are enough non-Americans here to help elect them. Would Feinstein support drivers licenses for illegal aliens if there were A) almost no illegal aliens in California and B) almost no legal aliens in California? No, because there would be no constituency for it. Just as there's no constituency for including Nepalese as a bilingual language in the public schools, since there are almost no immigrants from Nepal here. If there were a few million of them in California, Feinstein, Boxer, Arnold, and the state legislature would be wanting to create Nepalese language enclaves and programs. Just as they currently do with Spanish, something they wouldn't have done four decades ago when the state wasn't overrun with Spanish-speaking migrants.

California is a perfect example of this phenomenon. The state went GOP in every presidential election from the end of the New Deal to 1988, minus the 1964 LBJ landslide. Now it's gone Democrat five times in a row and is lost to us. The state once elected a lot of GOP Senators and governors, including Reagan. Someone as conservative as Reagan couldn't win there now under any circumstances. The GOP was once very competitive there in other elections, now it's a permanent minority with representation only in the suburban or rural areas which remain relatively untouched by immigration. Arnold is governor only because he's a liberal and is an action film star. Once he's gone, the 'Rats have the governorship for good.

And not only have the Democrats taken the state, they've become more radical. Sure, there were a few kooks elected in the Bay Area before, but now the entire state party is Marxist and hard left wing.

The same thing is happening in Colorado, and will happen in Texas sometime around 2016. Just look at the maps showing Dallas and Houston becoming blue, and showing a blue strip along the Rio Grande that inches northward each year. Texas Dems were once pretty conservative, but no more. They're becoming socialist like the ones in California.

As the non-white population grows, it not only moves the nation leftward, but permits left-leaning whites to lurch further to the left than they would dare in an overwhelmingly white nation. This is especially true as "diversity" becomes a religion from which no one may be permitted to dissent. Notice how terrified McCain was of daring to touch the Jeremiah Wright issue?
