Google Inc. chief executive officer Eric Schmidt wont take a technology post in President-elect Barack Obamas cabinet, according to news reports.
Reuters reported that Schmidt declined such a post.
Obama said during his campaign for the presidency that he would create a cabinet post similar to a chief technology officer to advise on tech issues. Schmidt, a strong supporter of Obama, was seen by some watchers as likely to be tapped for that post.
Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) is based in Mountain View, Calif.
Last week, Obama picked Julius Genachowski, who has links to Ask.com parent IAC/InterActiveCorp and to New Resource Bank, to help him choose people for a new administration in Washington. The choice convinced some that technology policy and a favorable attitude toward high-tech business could be a big part of Obamas focus as president.
Schmidt topped a list of 10 likely candidates for the cabinet post put up by ZDNet. Genachowski himself came in at No. 2. Others on the list included Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) founder Bill Gates and Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO) chief John Chambers.

That would be SCARY.
Maybe because his stock is at -14.08 in today’s trading so far.
Well of course, service to one’s country is for other (less rich) people.
GOOGLE does have a propensity to accumulate personal data, not to mention the retention policies.
same reason Rush doesn’t get into politics....to much of a pay cut.
Or Maybe because he’s had cheated on his wife too many times to count.
Google exe? Yea..ok.
or, heavens forbid, inhaled.

I did CTRL + ALT + DELETE and have a process named g00000gle.exe running on my PC. Is it spyware do you think? :O)
1) He knew there were more than enough socialists in the Obamaloon cabinet already.
2) He couldn’t take the pay cut.
3) He can help Obama and the clowns hurt the country far more at Google.
4) Don’t worry, he won’t pay more in taxes. The really rich never do.
If he was REALLY going to institute change he would have appointed some geek from the Silicon Valley. Or maybe even one of the Best Buy Geeks. Now that would be change I can believe in. Yes, I can.
That may not be it. I’d like to see a lot of high profile declinations of Cabinet positions. This may be a disastrous Administration.
That’s interesting. Actually I would decline, too, since the next 4-8 years are going to be monstrously bad and I am behind on my reading anyway.
Sounds like spyware, get rid of it.
How many years did it take them?
Of course now that we have Premier-Elect Obama — the US is once again worthy of being respected. Suddenly, leftists are finding their patriotism.
A cabinet-level “technology” post?
What in the world for? There’s nothing I can think of that such a position would actually do.
A NEW Cabinet position?
Dept of Technology?
How will the left control the internet, you say?
