Obama's Cabinet: Start With Al Gore __
By Richard Cohen Tuesday, November 11, 2008; A19
If there is a single appointment Barack Obama could make to signal how dramatically things will change in Washington, it would be to name Albert Gore Jr. -- former House member, former senator, former vice president, former presidential nominee and current Custodian of the Planet -- as secretary of state. For all the other aspirants to the job, sorry -- this is an inconvenient truth.
Can you imagine a bolder statement about a new direction when it comes to global warming and the general care of our abused planet? Gore has won a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in this area (and an Oscar, to boot), and his appointment would signal a dramatic shift from the indifference of the Bush era with its cold shoulder to the Kyoto treaty. In one stroke, the United States would emerge as the leader of nations in the effort to save the planet from ourselves -- and could prepare for the consequences of a changed world.
The new president's urgent priority has to be the economy. He has no other choice. But given that Obama has no foreign policy background, he needs a secretary of state who can really run the nation's foreign affairs while the attention of the White House is largely directed elsewhere. Others are capable of handling the job, including, of course, Sen. John Kerry, who is being mentioned. But Gore has as much experience and something else as well -- he was right on the Persian Gulf War (voted yes) and right on the Iraq war (like Obama, he opposed it from the start).
Moving on in the Cabinet, my next choice is Lawrence Summers for Treasury secretary.

If nothing else, this administration will be amusing!
Let’s not forget Silk Pony John Edwards.

Throw up.
Gore and Jimmah should arm wrestle.
Custodian of the Planet. Allrighty.
How deep does this rabbit hole go?
This a great ideaa!!!! Al Gore Secretary of Hot Air.
The good thing about this would be both of their humongous egos clashing and maybe they would end up destroying each other.
You mean the same Al Gore with a big honkin' mansion and a big honkin' houseboat and who flies everywhere in carbon-spewing jets?
and his appointment would signal a dramatic shift from the indifference of the Bush era with its cold shoulder to the Kyoto treaty.
You mean the same treaty with a lack of limitations on developing countries? Where the Senate voted 95-0 to reject any treaty that failed to incorporate such provisions?
Did Mister Cohen keep a straight face all the time he was writing that?
Gore’s ideas remind me of Zimbabwe. Is that the American future? At least TN has momentarily repented.
Al Gore is way too liberal for me.
But beyond that, it’s not good to have a Secretary of State who will see every problem in the world through the prism of global warming. Presidents, his cabinet, members of Congress, etc. need to have realistic views of the world, and not have that world view shaped and twisted by politically correct ideologies, which will in turn shape how they carry out their jobs.
I thought that the beginning of the 0bama era was the end of the Clinton era. That means Algore was part of that.
This writer for the WaPo is smoking crack if he really thinks that Algore will be a change. Don’t forget that Clinton also rejected Kyoto. How soon they forget.

More of the same old same old is going to be a dramatic signal of hope and change. What a buffoon! Can you imagine a bolder statement about a new direction when it comes to global warming and the general care of our abused planet?
Obama promised me change, not a retread of the same failed Democrat policies espoused by all of the people he is appointing!
We are now beginning to understand why P-E Zero didn’t select Hillary! for his Veep. Zero is recycling Clinton cronies and didn’t want to deal with their issues of split fealty.
‘Custodian of the Planet’..??? Good lord!!
Al Gore - Energy Tzar
John Kerry - Secretary of Defense
William Ayres - Secretary of Education
Hillary Clinton - Surgeon General
Rev. Wright - Secretary of State
I have two problems with this posting: 1) no barf alert 2: anything from Cohen is trash (g*d i HATE him!)
Can you imagine a bolder statement about a new direction when it comes to global warming and the general care of our abused planet?C'mon. This is from Scrappleface, right?
