Barnicle Wants More 'Jokes' Like Obama's Nancy Reagan Line
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Mike Barnicle, come on up here and accept this morning's Lanny Davis Award for shameless defense of the indefensible. You've earned it. Not merely did the Morning Joe panelist excuse Barack Obama's nasty jab at Nancy Reagan, he actually claimed that we need more of those kind of "jokes" from our presidents.

Joe Scarborough began the discussion by asserting that whereas mayors, governors and other lesser officials can get away with what Obama said about the former First Lady, it is unbecoming in the mouth of a president. The Morning Joe host also suggested that had George W. Bush made a comparable crack about a beloved Dem First Lady, the New York Times would have taken him harshly to task. Leaping to Obama's defense, the former Boston Globe columnist didn't merely don the wetsuit: Barnicle went full bathysphere.

Mr. Obama only makes jokes at the expense of others.

This man has no sense of humor.

It is Mr. Barnicle that is the joke.

there actually was a seance in the White House...by Hillary Clinton and her folks.

Agree, Obama doesn't make gaffes, only Biden does.

I don’t know about any kind of clinical diagnosis, but I’m listening to what those Newsweek guys talk about him being slightly creepy, wants to be on the stage all alone and he watches us watching him and wondering what’s amiss.

I read a report during the primary that said all the campaigning was making Obama very tired and could he hold up over the long haul. I heard a pundit say he was clearly very tired after the press conference on Fri. The pundit didn’t elaborate so I don’t know what he was basing that on.

When unscripted, he does say a lot of very strange things and his jokes are sort of a disconnect to reality.

Also, what are all those uhs and ums about? One would think that he could work with a speech coach and correct that, but it seems to be getting worse.

In a way, I almost feel sorry for him because he has been propelled either through his own self ambition or the ambition or others who are using him as a pawn into a situation he is not nearly ready for. I just hope and pray that he doesn’t do lasting harm to this nation.

Obama’s so-called “joke” about Mrs. Reagan was not only in poor taste, like everything Democrat, it wasn’t even funny. Further, I question why the putrid “president-elect” would say ANYTHING about someone who wasn’t even involved in this campaign?? What was the point?

If he wants to make stupid, tasteless comments about Democrats or his own family, that’s his choice. But dragging Nancy Reagan into this for his own political purposes is unconscionable!!

This is the “judgement” that the Obamanites think is so new, different and will “change” America. It’ll change America, alright, but NOT for the better!!

Maybe a seance where he could channel Jefferson might help. Or he could read the Federalist Papers and learn what the US is all about.

Didn’t Hillary have a conversation with Eleanor Roosevelt?
