"There's a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we'll see the president do that," Podesta said. "I think that he feels like he has a real mandate for change. We need to get off the course that the Bush administration has set."
Executive orders "have the power of law and they can cover just about anything," Tobias said in a telephone interview.
On drilling, the federal Bureau of Land Management is opening about 360,000 acres of public land in Utah to oil and gas drilling. Bush administration officials argue that the drilling will not harm sensitive areas; environmentalists oppose it.
"They want to have oil and gas drilling in some of the most sensitive, fragile lands in Utah," Podesta said. "I think that's a mistake."

Well, President Bush made more use of executive orders than any president I can remember.
What do we think will happen? Only Republicans can do stuff like that?
It sucks to be us, now, but we made our bed, now we gotta' lie in it. :(

I am not super worried about Mr Obama. He is having a reality check now. Those former acquaintances are all old and tired along with their ideas. I expect he will pull some military out of Alaska and shut down ANWR and Alaska will go into the bust phase of the boom/bust cycle. World events will soon overwhelm the Oval Office and the feel good programs will be delayed indefinitely. This is what I expect, it is not a prediction.

This brain child Obama will regret any change in President Bush drilling executive order when the next oil price raises. They never learn. They haven't the brain power to understand the danger of not having our own oil production. "a man's got to know his limitations ..."

4:13 Come now, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit. 4:14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. -New American Standard Version.
I used to be a Christian (of course, an honest reading of the Holy Writ reveals that once saved is always saved so I suppose we shall see). I read the Bible and studied scripture every day for years. Like most of us here are as far as current events are concerned and I'm sure like many good Christians here still do.
Anyhow, I'm still a big fan of the Bible as a pretty darn good book. There is something special about it and even if it is nothing more than a bunch of BC bud induced Ezekiel the Priest, Son of Buzis who are responsible for it.. no matter, the Bible is a guidebook for our lives.
How ya doin', Obama?

And this time, there is no Republican president or congress to blame when it all crashes. The media will tie itself knots blaming somebody. They’ll start blaming the populace, that’s their only choice.

We’re thinking of doing just that, and getting gun permits and purchasing our first guns... before the Messiah takes that right away from us also.

Stroke of the pen, law of the land. And it will take 60 votes in the Senate to override. Does anyone in their right mind think that any goosestepping RATs will cross the isle to stop tyranny?

Executive Order, excerpted from Wikipedia:
“Some orders do have the force of law when made in pursuance of certain Acts of Congress, when those acts give the President discretionary powers.” SOME orders.
“Although there is no Constitutional provision or statute that explicitly permits executive orders...” I'm sure Rhambo will say, “we don't need no stinkin’ constitutional provision”.
“Executive Order 10340 from President Harry S. Truman placing all steel mills in the country under federal control was invalid because it attempted to make law...” So the President can't actually MAKE law with an EO - but it's up to the SCOTUS to smack him down if he tries. Good luck on that.
“Critics fear that the president could make himself a de facto dictator by side-stepping the other branches of government and making autocratic laws” Yep.
“One extreme example of an executive order is Executive Order 9066, where Franklin D. Roosevelt delegated military authority to remove all people (used to target specifically Japanese Americans and German Americans) in a military zone.”
So, for example, Obama could delegate military authority to remove Caucasian people from nice neighborhoods by designating them a military zone. OK, I get it.

"They want to have oil and gas drilling in some of the most sensitive, fragile lands in Utah," Podesta said. "I think that's a mistake." If Podesta & BHO were required to live in the eastern Utah desert they would not last 7 days for want of arugula.
