CHICAGO | President-elect Barack Obama's private conversation with Poland's president created an international disagreement Saturday, with President Lech Kaczynski saying Mr. Obama promised to continue a missile-defense system and the transition office saying the Democrat made no such commitment.
President Bush's White House declined to weigh in on the Friday phone call between the Polish leader and Mr. Obama, who will take office Jan. 20.
Mr. Obama has spoken with at least 15 world leaders including Mr. Kaczynski and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Mr. Kaczynski issued a statement in the Polish-language section of his Web site saying the U.S. president-elect "emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership of Poland and the United States and expressed hope in the continuation of political and military cooperation between our countries. He also said that the missile-defense project would continue."

Just thinking. Let’s assume for the sake of argument that Cheney did control Bush since Bush was so ‘stupid’. Since Obama is so demonstrably (now) inexperienced, who’s goning to control him? Knowing the dingo nature of democrats, this should make for some very interesting power struggles. I think it would be wise to stay out of Ft Marcy Park for a while.
So poor Poland, probably the only remaining Christian country in Europe, is set up again.
I thought the guy was a thug. He’s not. He’s a punk.
In 1863, Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves. In 1933, Franklin Roosevelt repurchased them.
Do you notice a pattern here?
There are raised eyebrows and whispers going on right now in the offices of the DBM. Wonder how long they’ll stay just whispers.
Overseas, there probably are more than whispers. Europe has the most to lose with a weak and ineffective POTUS. The British press will be the first to point out, “the emperor has no clothes”. Britain can’t defend Europe by themselves.
Why oh why is O so misunderstood???? sarcasm
Didn’t the leaders of Iraq misunderstand him too?
The Polish President now knows Obama is more interested in shoe polish. Good Luck Europe. You will be finding out The One is really Number Two.
I guess you haven't heard, Bush says Obama victory was a "Triumph."
If FReepers can't figure out that the reason we have Obama is 8 years of Bush governing like a democrat, we are in trouble the next round too. We'll get another McCain.
I was at one of Bush's official inaugural balls 4 years ago with a knot in my stomach because I knew Bush is not one of us.
If we don't learn from our mistakes, we will repeat them.
Still saying one thing in Scranton and another in San Francisco.
During the early part of the campaign, O said something about how he was going to deal with the trade situation...and then he sent an emissary to the Canada powers to tell them that he really didn’t mean it.
Oppressive to Americans.
Solicitous and protective to America's criminals.
Deceitful to America's allies.
Craven to America's enemies.
I wonder if Obama is going to punish Eastern Europe for siding with President Bush over the last several years.
He’ll still blame it on “the failed policies of the Bush administration” and whine about being set up for such humiliations.
Totally agree with you.

He will tell them anything they want to hear but he hasn’t the guts to back it up.
Talking to Medvedev is a waste of time. Putin is the power and he’s probably not interested in a conversation with a Junior Senator.
Oh, boy. Medvedev is going to chew Bambi up and spit him out. The lion and the lamb. Or, maybe like Chamberlain.
Remember the scene in Cool Hand Luke when Paul Newman is beaten mercilessly by George Kennedy. At first
all of the inmates are cheering the fight on. When it becomes apparent that Newman will not quit, in spite of getting a sever beating,
The inmates start to say, in hushed tones, “Someone’s gotta stop this thing.”
Well, someone ought to counsel Obama, QUICK!
Within four days of his election:
1. Had to apologize to Nancy Reagan for crass joke.
2. Now this.
I hate pop quizzes on Sunday's but I'll go with the Polish President.
