America Held Hostage- the Obama Files...

With a hattip to Rush ( His idea during the Clinton plague upon America ) I am starting a file on “The One,” mostly starting from the election date.

Older stuff- links, quotes, quips, and sometimes pointed graphics can be found by scrolling back from these two posts:

-Hillary Clinton- archives, comments, and opposition research--

-Sarah Palin- links, from the beginning--

There is some good material in those posts that raises a lot of uncomfortable questions that everyone ought to be asking, and probably will once the “new” wears off, and we are stuck with four ( more likely eight, since 95% of the news & entertainment media are in his pocket ) years of a typical corrupt Chicago Political Machine Politician trying to jerk the whole country in one direction and then the next.

You've all heard the saying,

”People get the kind of government they want...
...and deserve?”

Well, America, you are about to “get it, good & hard...”

Don't say you weren't warned- we tried to tell you...

We did everything we could, and our state went for the Old Guy & the Naughty Librarian, but too many other voters were made stupid by the TV and public schools for it to matter.

We're in a Hell of a mess, and the worst thing is, "we"- the collective we, not you & I-- got us here.

Is Obama really the Abyss...

staring back at us?

I like to make points with humorous graphics- this one sums it up as well as any:

Then, in a nutshell, "everything I see going bad with all this hopi- changi- stuff The One is peddling-- forced labor, censorship, spin, and pure mean-spirited rudness:

Email of the day

Atlas readers rock! I am blown away by the overwhelming response to this post  (and this one) to get involved to take back our country from the Soros, socialists, and the self proclaimed messiah - oy. More than one email brought a tear to my eye but I wanted to share this one with you.

If this best represents who we are, what we want and where we are going, there is no way we can lose. Greatness is in the house. I am proud to count you as my friends. Prouder still to stand with you and fight this great fight.

I want to lead a county.

I was born in Cuba, and know the language of Communism, Obama speaks it well.  My grandfather's family had to flee Lebanon because of the Muslims to Cuba. We fled Cuba because of Castro.

This is the best country in the whole wide world.  I was a child when I left Cuba with the clothe on my back, we left my parent's sister and I, left behind everything.

America is Worth fighting for and Freedom is worth defending.  I do not want my children to grow up in oppression, nor do I wish exile upon them.

Please allow me to help, again, Id like to lead a county.

My name is Ingrid and Im in Miami, in Miami Dade County

May the Light always shine upon America,

Ingrid

UPDATE: In case there was any doubt as to what the victorious zombies have in mind. Check out this comment (left in the comment section) . Can you say rude awakening?

You people are pathetic!

Your racist fear mongering will not go unchallenged!  Soon we will shut down your hate spewing web sites.  We will confiscate your firearms.  In prison, you will get an education on the error of your ways.  We will take your children and raise them as our own and instill in them the values of social justice.  We will have a new American Republic of justice and order for all!

You time is almost up!  Prepare for the dung heap of history!

It sounds insane (which it is) but I believe the writer is quite serious.

"We will confiscate your firearms. In prison, you will get an education on the error of your ways. We will take your children and raise them as our own and instill in them the values of social justice".....

Heh heh heh....I am sure you are serious, but that is funny!

Values of social justice....like Mao? Stalin? Lenin? Ho-chi Min? Pol Pot? Which of these butchers of social justice did you have in mind?"

170,000,000
That's the number of civilians that have been murdered by their own governments in the 20th century alone.

Innocents Betrayed is a must see video produced by Jews for the Preservation of Firearms (scroll down to see links to view the Introduction to Innocents Betrayed)

Now consider Obama's 'civilian defense force' which he intends to fund and equip as well as our standing military coupled with his promise to revisit the second amendment (repeal concealed carry privilege) and then compound this injury with Ayers' inspired youth corps.

CHANGE.GOV OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT ELECT (hat tip rut)

Obamessiah has a new site up as President-elect soliciting ideas form the proletariat.
Let's hope it doesn't become the hub for the hate whitey and Jew boy Obamavomit that his last site was.

Surf the site. Take note. Keep your eye on the The Obama National Service Plan- the page is empty (how apropos) but that piques my interest.

President Obama To Bring Back Slavery

Just in case anyone think Mr. Obama is not serious about this, bear in mind that his new Chief of Staff wrote a book demanding this very thing:

Amazon.com: The Plan: Big Ideas for America: Rahm Emanuel, Bruce Reed: Books
http://www.amazon.com/Plan-Big.....038;sr=1-1

Don’t forget they want a Gestapo/KKK civilian force the size of the pentagon to keep everybody inline and things running smoothly.

“Suddenly, all mention of “required” has been disappeared. ”

SOME THOUGHTS ON OBAMA'S mandatory volunteerism plan. Plus, reader Nancy Anne Potts writes:

Looks like the change.gov site is true to it's title - it changes!

During the time when I was looking at the blog you linked to concerned mandatory community service the change.gov page saying "require community service" changed to goal for community service. The new wording is:

"..... Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free."

I found the the cached page on Google it has the original "required" wording.

Looks like they caught their "mistake". Now will the real plan please step forward -- goal or required. (Although the way government sets goals, they often wind up looking like requirements so maybe the two aren't all that different.)

Ugh! I see card check made the economy page too. He may be the president elect but I don't have to like his plans!

Not until the second term. Then that will be made mandatory, too . . . .

Meanwhile, Robert Bidinotto comments: "Anyone recall what the Soviets used to do to history books?" The Obama folks have a history of airbrushing.

IF YOU VOTED FOR MCCAIN, you're a racist. Just in case nobody had bothered to tell you.

President-elect Barack Obama's First Press Conference - Complete Video 11/7/08

Obama Mocks Nancy Reagan in 1st Press Conference

It's  classless to mock a frail, elderly woman. (Note he was not kind in his revelation about his own "typical white person" grandmother, either.)

It's even worse to mock the widow of a great former president. Whatever you think of her, she deserves respect.

Especially classless was mocking Nancy Reagan on stage, before hundreds of reporters and television cameras, knowing the "joke" would be heard by millions. This wasn't some private remark that got picked up by a live mike.

On Concerns Over Gun Control, Gun Sales Are Up

From "Change.gov", the official transition website. Agenda tab and then select "urban policy" and go down to "Crime Control".

Address Gun Violence in Cities:
As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

There will be no one left to protect you
Barack Obama wants to institute a Civilian National Security Force, a vast militia not unlike Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, a personal army. He knows he would need such a force to protect him and to enforce his will on Americans. Americans will have not seen such arbitrary power used against them since the days of the Civil War when Lincoln put the Constitution in the bottom drawer of his desk and set about arresting anyone who opposed his policies...

Hmmmm... this one is very difficult. I was in the military, and we were taught we salute the uniform, not the man. So I respect the office, not the man. However, I am adopting a wait and see. If Obama governs as if he cares about America, even if we disagree, I can accept that. If Obama governs as I expect, like a Manchurian candidate who is bent on America’s deconstruction, that is when he will disqualify himself as being my president.

An array of other advocacy groups are stepping forward with their priorities for the new Congress.

Barack Obama: The Kingfish Reborn

Do Unto Obama As Liberals Did Unto Bush

Coal stocks plummet. Average 15%, many over 30% since Tuesday Gee, wonder why?

Kate, this is important and you should listen to it. It's about Obama's cult of personality and it is short.

From the blogs- and, always, read the Anchoress:

Bush, Obama, & Ghosts of Hate - UPDATED

“The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.” Lincoln’s Second Annual Message to Congress, December 1, 1862.

I would love nothing better than to be able to stop writing about “left” and “right.” I wish we had a better vocabulary to describe our distinctions, because these words are limiting and off-putting. I am determined, with the merciful conclusion of this abusively long election season, to work diligently at spending less time entertaining these distinctions. But for today, I think it is only fair to note a very important and glaring difference between “left and right” - and in so doing - consider how we may, finally, stop needing to indulge in what is tedious.

Victor Davis Hanson
says Let’s not imitate the left in our opposition. I agree.

It has been wonderful - really beyond wonderful - to consider how differently most of the right has reacted to their defeat than the left did in 2000 and 2004. In the two previous elections, the left responded by calling the other half of the country “stupid,” “morons,” and “Nazis” - Jane Smiley called them “unteachably ignorant” - they indulged in high drama, sniffling “apologies” to the globe, and denunciations of their fellow countrymen as “lying between repugnant and reptile in the dictionary.”

And oh, yeah (eyeroll) George W. Bush was not “their” president.

While you’ll see a few disgruntled extremists on the right say foolish, even ignorant things - and many throwing daggers at the sickening double-standards of the press - they’re not indulging in that sort of dehumanizing (and very adolescent) hate of their fellow countrymen or the president-elect. The reports they’re filing read very differently than those following the Bush wins. They read as grown-up, tolerant, open-minded discourses, not tantrums. There is a willingness to be hopeful, even in defeat.

And there is a determined respectfulness being offered to the winners - people who could not manage maturity and respectfulness in their defeat and who, sadly, are not always managing it in their victory, either.

I’m hopeful that the left - if it takes the time to actually condescend to notice how well it is being treated by the vanquished - might consider that self-indulgent defamation is the lesser way; that such a consideration may inspire introspection, and perhaps the smallest bit of regret for some of their appalling excesses toward the right and toward the American President who did not return hate in-kind.

I’m hopeful. I’m an optimist. I KNOW that the folks on the right - for all of their faults, and both sides certainly have faults - want America to be successful and strong and exceptional and free. I’m hopeful that hugely empowered left will discover that - beyond the feel-goodism of “free social programs” which are never free -they actually, really do want all of those things, too. That they’ll look back on the last 8 years and realize, finally, that their enemy was never George W. Bush. Bush, the guy who never dehumanized them, was only trying serve those corny ideals.

And then, miraculously, we may actually have unity.

Some similar thinking from my girl crush, Donna Brazile:

“The one mistake that we continue to make is that we label people. We say you’re conservatives, liberal, progressive, right wing, left wing. I think people just want to spend one day being Americans. They want to come together around a common purpose, common values.”

I wondered the other day if the catharsis of this election might open up “a vein of generosity” (or at least decency) from the left as concerns President Bush. I have not seen it yet, but I’m going to be optimistic and keep looking.

But maybe it’s enough just to see a little appreciation from the right, to start. Like this, for instance:

I link, therefore, I Err has a little mini-round-up of appreciation for George W. Bush. You’ll want to read it all.

From Alppuccino at Protein Wisdom:

At 10:40, President Bush will keep his streak alive by telling everyone how much he loves America. Just as he always has. And he’ll show everyone how much he loves America by preparing Obama as best he can for the next 4 years.

Read it all; it’s doubtful that Obama’s team will come into the White House finding O’s missing from their keyboards, any rude messages greeting them. And that is how it should be in America, a respectful transition.

Michael Gerson:

Many liberals refuse to concede Bush’s humanity, much less his achievements.

But that humanity is precisely what I will remember. I have seen President Bush show more loyalty than he has been given, more generosity than he has received. I have seen his buoyancy under the weight of malice and his forgiveness of faithless friends. Again and again, I have seen the natural tug of his pride swiftly overcome by a deeper decency — a decency that is privately engaging and publicly consequential.

[In 2005]…the White House senior staff overwhelmingly opposed a new initiative to fight malaria in Africa for reasons of cost and ideology…In the crucial policy meeting, one person supported it: the president of the United States, shutting off debate with a moral certitude that others have criticized. I saw how this moral framework led him to an immediate identification with the dying African child, the Chinese dissident, the Sudanese former slave, the Burmese women’s advocate. It is one reason I will never be cynical about government — or about President Bush.

Jeffery Scott Shapiro:

[The treatment of President Bush] from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have…Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty — a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

Until we fix, within ourselves, our enthrallment with hate for others, simply because they hold differing views, we’ll never pull it together. In 2006 we watched a right-wing blogger be called less than human by a left-wing reader. We’ve seen President Bush being referred to as “the chimp” and “the monkey” by the wits who insisted that ideology trumped having a decent respect for another’s humanity. I wrote about that a little here:

Thus, George W. Bush is “Chimpy McHitler.” Hillary Clinton is “a pig in a pantsuit.” Barack Obama is “O-Bambi.” Cindy McCain, who has exhibited some courage and laudable compassion in her life, is reduced to a “pill-popping beer-frau,” and so forth. From there it is smooth sailing down an ever-descending river of hatred, until we are incapable of seeing anything good in the “other,” both because we have willfully hardened our hearts, and because our hate — especially when it is supported by a group of like minds — feels safe and inviolable.

With that in mind, you’ll want to read this excellent piece over at Conversion Diary, wherein Jenifer ponders pictures from a Nazi-era photo album and wonders, how such common-variety people managed to support and enable such profound evil.

One thing that stands out in all these examples is that the victims of the widespread evil were categorized as something less than human…not only that innocent people were killed or enslaved, but that their humanity was taken away by the societies around them…So here is the advice I would offer to my children, and to my children’s children:

Every decade or so, take a look around the society in which you live, and ask yourself if there is any group of human beings who are seen as something less than human. A big tipoff is if dehumanizing words — terms other than “man,” “woman,” “child,” “baby,” or “person” — are used to describe any category of people.

And if you ever see that going on, you might be in the midst of something gravely evil.

Dehumanizing people begins with baby-steps like name-calling, or the sort of intellectual dishonesty that delights in deliberately twisting the meaning of others in negative and misrepresentative ways. Those are the little gateways to the great evils that come once you’ve managed to thoroughly de-humanize others.

We’ve had 8 years - I’d say 12, really - of people demonizing and dehumanizing others, from both sides, and it is not getting us anyplace good. I believe that the response of most of the right to Obama’s victory is a step toward changing that. But the left has to do their part, too.

Pope Benedict XVI said, “those who hope live differently.” The election of Barack Obama was borne on this word, “Hope.”

If the people who voted for “hope” were sincere, then let them begin, today, to embrace it - and to live differently - without the kneejerk move to hate “the other side.” The right, responding levelly to their defeat, has offered the opening. Will the left take it?

UPDATE: Seems some will. Here is mostly accurate, and apprecited praise from a surprising quarter:

Would America have elected Barack Obama if white Americans had not gotten accustomed to seeing (in succession) two African-American Secretaries of State? I don’t think so. Before Bush, African-Americans were appointed to some good posts but not to our #1 foreign policy job. Two African Americans (one with a pretty odd first name) served as America’s face to the world. That eased Obama’s way. It is not Tiger Woods in whose footsteps Obama is walking — it’s Rice and Powell….Fact is, “W” never gave any evidence of holding racist attitudes…even just the slur the occasionally slips out of the mouth of even our most liberal leaders.

Same with Arabs and Muslims…Bush, after 9/11, never resorted to anti-Arab or Muslim stereotypes. He drew distinctions between terrorists and Arabs…Had he not done these things, Arabs and Muslims might have experienced not just hate crimes but pogroms.

Meanwhile, from Grand Rants:

Here is a man who is regularly compared to Hitler in casual conversation in Leftist circles high and low. His honor has been regularly impugned, his intelligence (or, as the press loves to put it, his “intellectual curiousity”) constantly demeaned, his verbal stumblings consistently mocked, and his accomplishments in office discounted or ignored. He is a man who kept his head down and did his job, despite the slings and arrows hurled at him by fortune made all the more outrageous by nearly the entire Democratic party.

I for one, would like to say thank you to Pres. Bush. For keeping us safe. For watching out for us. For persevering in spite of all the spite. I believe history will ultimately judge you as one of America’s best presidents, and I believe you deserve that judgement.

H/T to Opinionated Catholic, who writes:

The throwing under the bus of the President by even his friends and indeed the base has been shocking to me. Many groups will find out soon enough how they took Bush’s support and advocacy for them for granted, Catholics, especially.

Meanwhile, Jules Crittenden is beginning to enjoy Omerica, Quin Hillyer is saying America is over, kaput, finished, Evan Thomas suddenly finds Obama “slightly creepy” and when you refuse to release medical records, and the press doesn’t care…conjecture begins about your mental health.

Forty-Fourth President, Twelfth Imam

by Baron Bodissey

O-Man’s Fibonacci spiral haloThe election results were long expected, but now that the day has arrived it’s quite a letdown, anyway. Reading about the joy expressed by Hamas and Syria and Italy and Indonesia… contemplating Obama’s Secretary of State, or (God help us) Defense… Thinking about the USA becoming just like Sweden, only with a real army, and aircraft carriers, and nukes… First Lady Michelle…

It’s all too depressing.

So, as is my habit in such circumstances, instead of writing a post this evening or doing something else useful, I created yet another iconic image of The One. After looking around at some of his existing halos, I decided to make one myself. A man can’t have too many halos, right?

And then I pondered the phenomenon of halos appearing behind the heads of great national leaders, men who are born into modest Muslim circumstances, but in time become presidents of large countries that have nuclear weapons. It made me think of…
- - - - - - - - -
Mad Jad’s HaloMahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Ol’ Mad Jad got his halo when he went to visit the UN a couple of years ago. It appeared behind his head while he was speaking. Not only that, his audience was held in such rapt attention by his words that they were unable to blink for thirty minutes. We know all this is true because he told us so.

I wonder how many other resemblances there are between him and Barack Hussein Obama.

Ahmadinejad sees himself as preparing the way for the Twelfth Imam, as a sort of satanic John the Baptist for the man who is prophesied to return and usher in the apocalypse preceding the establishment of the permanent reign of Islam over the entire world.

And Obama’s got a bigger halo.

Does that mean…? Nah — it couldn’t be… But still… It makes me wonder…

What if the One were also the Twelfth?

Note to the literal-minded: this post is for fun, not to be taken seriously. Given the circumstances, it’s the only fun I’m likely to have for quite a while.

We may have to set up a “Free Republic in Exile” like Degaulle did when the Nazis overran France, but we’ll manage.

Some realistic things to expect early in the Obama Administration

I work in Chicago. I deal with a great many attorneys in my job, many of whom are staunch Dims and breathless Obambi supporters; some were even active in his campaign. More than one told me that at or near the top of Obambi’s agenda is a new Hate Crimes bill, with a wide expansion of what will be considered a hate crime

Didn't you notice that Obama is a conservative?  "Obama is, in his own words, something of a Rorschach test. Well, after the 2006 debacle, I wrote this:

Call it a Twilight of the Gods moment

...but until further notice, I am suspending updates specific to this post.

I will continue to update this:

with "everything you need to be aware of."
But I'm just burned, and bummed out. The elections. The sellout of Israel. The Moonbats. The Stupid Party. The Evil Party.

Then again, after yesterday there's this:

”Zimbabwe On The Potomac...”

You know there were warning signs...

I kept telling people when Bill Clinton slithered in to office, and clung to it, despite all the scandals, and Impeachment itself-- “He's just a symptom. Like a fever is of a disease- there's something wrong with America.”

Like Popular Culture- look at the magazines-- I call it “thugs & jugs,” or “which Pop Tart is popping out whose baby this week?”

Or Katrina- ever seen so many people milling around with their hands out, when they should have been helping themselves?

We did it to ourselves, and The New, Improved Black Jesus is merely a symptom.

All civilizations have a shelf life- once enough citizens figure out that by electing the “right” representatives, they can use the power of the government to pick the pockets of others,

...it's all over, except for the details.

Well, we're in the “details,” now.

Meanwhile, I have to figure out what Miss Emily and I do with what's left of our lives, and bush hog her Mom's old place in the country, because City Life isn't going to be worth living from here on out.

I'll catch you all later...

...maybe...

Cash for Cloture: Demcare bribe list, Pt. II

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 21, 2009 02:48 AM

A month ago, I compiled Part I of the Demcare bribe list as Harry Reid rushed before Thanksgiving to secure his first cloture vote on the government health care takeover. (Quick re-cap: $300 million Louisiana Purchase for Landrieu; $300 million California doctor payments; AARP goodies; abortion and union lobby concessions.)

Here’s Part II of the Cash for Cloture bribe list all in one handy place (hat tip again to my friend ChristinaKB for the apt phrase she first coined on November 21 for the Demcare wheeling and dealing).

GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell alluded to all this backroom dealing on the floor early this morning before the cloture vote, but lamely refused to name names on the Senate floor.

Screw Senate collegiality. Let the sun shine in.

1. Sen. Ben Nelson’s “Cornhusker Kickback.” The CBO says the Nebraska Democrat sellout’s special Medicaid expansion subsidy will initially cost an estimated $100 million. The Hill reports that while Nelson credited Nebraska’s governor for giving him the idea to lobby for the government preference, Nebraska’s governor assailed the payoff:

“Nebraskans did not ask for a special deal, only a fair deal,” Heineman said in a statement Sunday. In response, Nelson fired off a letter Sunday to Heineman saying he’s prepared to ask that the provision covering Nebraska’s Medicaid share “be removed from the amendment in conference, if it is your desire.”

2. New England’s Special Syrup. Vermont and Massachusetts will get similar (though less generous) special treatment by the feds in covering Medicaid expansion costs. Combined with Nebraska’s tab, the exclusive clique’s payoffs will cost taxpayers $1.2 billion over 10 years. At least.

3. Corruptocrat Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd’s Christmas wish. He’s plunging in the polls and in need of a little bacon to bring home.

A $100 million item for construction of a university hospital was inserted in the Senate health care bill at the request of Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., who faces a difficult re-election campaign, his office said Sunday night. The legislation leaves it up to the Health and Human Services Department to decide where the money should be spent, although spokesman Bryan DeAngelis said Dodd hopes to claim it for the University of Connecticut. The provision is included in a 383-page series of changes to the health care bill that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., outlined Saturday. …The one sought by Dodd provides $100 million for “a health care facility that provides research, inpatient tertiary care, or outpatient clinical services.” It must be affiliated with an academic health center at a public research university in the United States “that contains a State’s sole public academic medical and dental school.” The money can cover a maximum of 40 percent of the facility’s construction costs.

4. “Some insurers are more equal than others” tax exemption. The WSJ reports that nonprofit insurance companies will be exempt from a new, nearly $7 billion tax to pay for Demcare. Democrat Sens. Ben “Blank Check” Nelson and Carl Levin of Michigan pushed hard for the tax exemption, which will exempt insurers in their states.

5. The Frontier freebie. Several lucky states will see an increase in Medicare payments to hospitals and doctors, the NYT reports, — “where at least 50 percent of the counties are ‘frontier counties,’ defined as those having a population density less than six people per square mile. And which are the lucky states? The bill gives no clue. But the Congressional Budget Office has determined that Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming meet the criteria.”

6. More Democrat hospital bennies. Also via NYT: “Another provision of the bill would increase Medicare payments to certain “low-volume hospitals” treating limited numbers of Medicare patients. Senator Tom Harkin, Democrat of Iowa and chairman of the Senate health committee, said this ‘important fix’ would help midsize Iowa hospitals in Grinnell, Keokuk and Spirit Lake. Another item in Mr. Reid’s package specifies the data that Medicare officials should use in adjusting payments to hospitals to reflect local wage levels. The officials can use certain new data only if it produces a higher index and therefore higher Medicare payments for these hospitals. Senate Democrats said this provision would benefit hospitals in Connecticut and Michigan.”

7. Bernie Sanders’ socialized medicine sop. He wanted a public option. Instead, he got socialized medicine satellite clinics funded to the tune of at least $10 billion. In his remarks early this morning before the cloture vote, he gloated about the funding as a crucial step toward universal care. Via the Burlington Free Press:

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., scored a big victory, too, with the inclusion in the amendment package of $10 billion to expand community health centers across the country — including at least two more in Vermont.

“We are talking about a revolution in primary care here,” Sanders said. Funding community health centers in an additional 10,000 communities would extend primary care to 25 million more Americans. The $10 billion, added at Sanders’ request, would also ensure there would be medical professionals to provide primary care by expanding the National Health Service Corps by an additional 20,000 slots. Doctors, dentists, nurses and other medical professionals who agree to work in areas where there are limited medical services get help paying off their school loans. The House version of the health care reform bill contains $14 billion for these initiatives. Sanders said he was hopeful the final amount, which will be hammered out in negotiations between the House and Senate, would be closer to $14 billion.

Vermont has 8 community health centers and 40 satellite offices. “New funding would make it likely centers could be opened in Addison and Bennington counties,” Sanders’ home state paper reports.

8. Fla.-Pa.-NY Protectionism. Via Politico: “Three states – Pennsylvania, New York and Florida – all won protections for their Medicare Advantage beneficiaries at a time when the program is facing cuts nationwide.”

And you know there are many more untold payoffs — paid by stealing your money — yet to be stuffed into this bureaucratic monstrosity.

To quote our Chicago Way President: “Don’t think we’re not keeping score, brother.”

ROGER KIMBALL:

The bad news is that Senator Ben Nelson is not up for reelection until 2012.

The good news is that today, December 19, 2009, is the day we got clarity on the Obama-Pelosi-Reid effort to steal medical care and call it “reform.”

I hope that Ben enjoys his final two years in the Senate.

OK, that’s not quite right. Since it was Ben Nelson of Nebraska that finally got Harry Reid his desperately needed 60th vote for socialized medicine, I hope 1) that the next two year are unpleasant for Sen. Nelson and 2) that he loses in 2012 by a landslide.

I’m still not being entirely candid. Nelson is a pathetic pawn in this game. He’s history and I hope he has plans for a new day job. He’ll need ‘em.

The really bad news is that the American people are just about to find that their medical care got a whole lot worse and a whole lot more expensive and cumbersome. . . . I suspect that the “tea parties” of the last several months will look like modest dress rehearsals once people get a handle on what the Obama-Pelosi-Reid triumvirate are attempting to do to us.

I hope they’re properly angry.

The Biggest Heist in the History of the World

by Baron Bodissey

The latest essay in Takuan Seiyo’s “From Meccania to Atlantis” series has been published at the Brussels Journal.

The current installment is called “Part 13 (2): Harpo, Gekko, Barko, Sarko”, and describes how the Democrats are deliberately breaking the USA as the final opposition to the New World Order. Here are some excerpts:

All Body Snatchers who have access to a microphone crow about this coming epiphany, but the most instructive gloating comes from Janet Napolitano. In a typical inverse reality mode of Snatcher State, Ms. Napolitano is in charge of domestic security for the United States, tasked among others with protecting its borders and enforcing its immigration laws. “ Timing is everything in the arts of war or politics “, said Ms. Napolitano in her speech on the blessings of busting the United States for good with a demographic bomb too, on top of all the other heavy petards.

The art of war — if only the foggy “conservatives” had a clue.

It’s within the same time bracket that the Barko people chose to unleash the Cap-and-Trade economic catastrophe on their country, under the risible pretext that their failure to do so would lead to a catastrophe. It’s in this time bracket that Mr. Obama chose to appoint an Afrocentric Black Communist, Van Jones, as “Green Jobs” Czar, and a Socialist International operative, Carol Browner, as “Energy and Climate Change” Czar. And that confluence of Third-worldism, socialism and climate change hokum provides the clue as to what the monetary bonfire of hokum stimulus is about too.

Mikhail Gorbachev, no stranger to Trotskyite thinking, has reportedly said that the threat of environmental crisis will be the “international disaster key” that will unlock the ‘New World Order’ (6). But even without Gorbachev’s decryption, that key is on plain view every day during the United Nations-staged Copenhagen climate commedia dell’arte.

The idea is to transfer wealth from the rich to the poor — on a scale undreamt of even by Karl Marx himself. All in the name of equality. No longer the equality of a German coal-mine owner and a German coal miner, but the equality of a German surgeon and a Gambian porter. From each according to his ability, to each according to his need, globally. Or, to paraphrase Charles Krauthammer, taxing hard-working citizens of Western democracies in order to fill the treasuries of Third World kleptocracies.

This is the biggest heist in the history of the world, and the Holy Grail of socialists everywhere, not the least at Socialist International. And the United States is the one obstreperous territory that has stood athwart the road to this progressive progress, starting with George W. Bush’s refusal to sign the Kyoto Protocol.

That’s why the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize went to Barack Hussein Obama. Thorbjørn Jagland, who presided over this travesty, had been, among his other socialist posts, a vice president of the Socialist International. And Barko with his crew steer America’s ship now, with an intention that presidential candidate Obama hinted to the knowing so vividly.
- - - - - - - - -
America’s backbone is its middle class of mainly white, Christian anti-socialists. The last such backbone remaining in the world, with the possible exception of Australia. Crush it, and you have shattered the last obstacle standing before The New World Order. Break it, and you have changed the course of history as profoundly as the French Revolution has, in the same Jacobin direction.

That’s what the spending has been all about, and that’s why they stuffed so many back-breaking projects into the same impossible time frame. That’s why Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s majordomo, said that no serious crisis should go to waste.

And that’s why the next chapter in our contrarian cogitations will bear the title Requiescat in pace. The key to ending this nightmare is not in putting one’s electoral faith in a Sarko to replace a Barko while Harpo is running around in the background, but in recognizing that the whole enterprise is a mad circus decayed beyond redemption. The only true choice left is to get up and walk out of the circus tent.

Y2Kyoto: The Great Train Robbery

When we last checked in on our favourite Railroad Climate Engineer, he was narrowing down the list of Climategate suspects to "fossil fuel lobby" and "corporate interests".

Today, we find the most excellent Dr.Rajendra Pachauri in a "corporate interest" feature by the Telegraph. For starters;

Dr Pachauri’s TERI empire has also extended worldwide, with branches in the US, the EU and several countries in Asia. TERI Europe, based in London, of which he is a trustee (along with Sir John Houghton, one of the key players in the early days of the IPCC and formerly head of the UK Met Office) is currently running a project on bio-energy, financed by the EU.

Another project, co-financed by our own Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the German insurance firm Munich Re, is studying how India’s insurance industry, including Tata, can benefit from exploiting the supposed risks of exposure to climate change. Quite why Defra and UK taxpayers should fund a project to increase the profits of Indian insurance firms is not explained.

Even odder is the role of TERI’s Washington-based North American offshoot, a non-profit organisation, of which Dr Pachauri is president. Conveniently sited on Pennsylvania Avenue, midway between the White House and the Capitol, this body unashamedly sets out its stall as a lobbying organisation, to “sensitise decision-makers in North America to developing countries’ concerns about energy and the environment”.

TERI-NA is funded by a galaxy of official and corporate sponsors, including four branches of the UN bureaucracy; four US government agencies; oil giants such as Amoco; two of the leading US defence contractors; Monsanto, the world’s largest GM producer; the WWF (the environmentalist campaigning group which derives much of its own funding from the EU) and two world leaders in the international ‘carbon market’, between them managing more than $1 trillion (£620 billion) worth of assets.

All of this is doubtless useful to the interests of Tata back in India, which is heavily involved not just in bio-energy, renewables and insurance but also in ‘carbon trading’, the worldwide market in buying and selling the right to emit CO2. Much of this is administered at a profit by the UN under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) set up under the Kyoto Protocol, which the Copenhagen treaty was designed to replace with an even more lucrative successor.

Perhaps he's just investigating undercover.

Y2Kyoto: Climate Instability Just Around The Corner

I picked up on something said during a television interview at Copenhagen last week, and both my gut and my search engine tell me the language of the UN's great socialist money-sucking scheme is evolving once again.

Just as "global warming" was pushed into an inconveniently cold and bitter night, "climate change" may be readying its last will and testament.

"Climate change" was always a weak substitute for "global warming", because it was always so easy to rebut. As even the experts were forced to concede, the climate is always changing and has since long before man discovered spark plugs.

This new terminology is more clever, for it neatly avoids the shortcomings of its clumsy forebears. It requires neither warming, nor change. Just television.

When blizzards descend on scientists and world leaders from Copenhagen to East Anglia to Washington, they warmists can now claim ownership.

When hurricane forecasts fall short of the mark, the propagandists can cite their very failure to support their scheme.

Warm winters, cold winters, more hurricanes, fewer hurricanes, growing ice caps, melting ice caps - directions won't matter. Every "new" temperature record, every seasonal flood, every California hot spell, every dusting of snow in the south of France - in other words, local weather, reported globally, will return full force as evidence of anthropogenic climate crime, as it did in a simpler time when the ice conditions of a canal in Ottawa led to nationwide panic.

So, get ready to welcome the new talking point on the block: "climate instability".

I'm not offering a game plan. I'm just warning you to prepare for it.

Meltdown Mann

by snork ( No Comments › )
Filed under Economy, Free Speech, Global Warming Hoax, Leftists, Media, Progressives, Science, United Nations at December 20th, 2009 - 8:30 am

One of the chief figures in the climategate debacle is Dr. Michael Mann of Penn State. Next to Jones, he was probably the most notorious and obnoxious. He, of course, is famous for the now long debunked MBH (Mann-Bradley-Hughes) “hockey stick” graph, made using goofy statistics and Californian trees.

Not knowing when to keep his mouth shut, he takes to the pen in this oped in the WaPo. If you have the time, look at the comments. The WaPo readers aren’t having any of it.

Particularly bizarre, illogical, and utterly left wing, is this:

Palin wrote that Alaska’s climate is changing but referred to “thawing permafrost and retreating sea ice” as “natural, cyclical environmental trends.” In fact, such changes are among the effects scientists predicted would occur as greenhouse gas levels increase.

In context, the statement doesn’t even fit. But it was red meat for the left-wing fanatics that he imagines that we all are. Could have just as easily come from a certain little green weenie. You can’t have a proper defense of the shenanigans at CRU without dragging Sarah Palin into it.

Steve McIntyre did a reasonable fisking of it at his blog here. The basic problem with the whole piece is that it’s a complete non-sequitur. It’s actually not a new argument, it’s basically the fake-but-accurate argument warmed over.  But it does have an additional bit of fakery: the “independent lines of evidence” claim.

Here’s the short refutation of the “independent lines of evidence” argument: If these other lines of evidence were so robust, why does he hang on to his phony hockey stick by his fingernails?

Imagine that you’re on a jury. The prosecutor tells you that he has the sworn testimony of a drug-peddling pimp, and lots of other evidence that he doesn’t talk about. If the other evidence is so solid, why does he make the testimony of the pimp the centerpiece of his case?

Sorry, Mike. You already shot your best shot. Now your hockey stick goes down in history next to Piltdown Man. That was quite a meltdown, Mann.

Update: Mann is a victim.

Climategatekeeping – Wikipedia Edition

by snork ( 37 Comments › )
Filed under Economy, Free Speech, Global Warming Hoax, Media, Politics, Science, Socialism, Technology, United Nations at December 20th, 2009 - 1:00 pm

Steve McIntyre has had a series of posts at his site, entitled “Climategatekeeping”, 1, 2 and so on. The focus is various bits of evidence that the hockey team members were conspiring (in the truest sense of the word) to keep unfriendly papers from being published in the journals and in the IPCC reports. You can read them here, and here. For example, this one is pretty hard to spin:

Mike [Mann],
I’d rather you didn’t. I think it should be sufficient to forward the para from Andrew Conrie’s email that says the paper has been rejected by all 3 reviewers. You can say that the paper was an extended and updated version of that which appeared in CR. Obviously, under no circumstances should any of this get back to [Roger] Pielke.
Cheers
Phil [Jones]

‘Pielke’ is Roger Pielke Sr., of Colorado State. He’s a bad guy. He can’t be allowed to know what the “team” is up to. Yes, this qualifies as “conspiracy” under the legal definition.

The third in the series has a twist: it is about something that a lot of people have been aware of for quite a while, but still needs to be communicated to the public: that there has been a very active troll guarding the Wikipedia bridge, making sure that only hellfire-and-damnation interpretations of AGW make it into the text, and anything unfriendly is almost immediately pounced upon and airbrushed out by this troll. His name is William Connolley.

Lawrence Solomon at the Canadian National Post wrote this on the matter:

Connolley took control of all things climate in the most used information source the world has ever known – Wikipedia. Starting in February 2003, just when opposition to the claims of the band members were beginning to gel, Connolley set to work on the Wikipedia site. He rewrote Wikipedia’s articles on global warming, on the greenhouse effect, on the instrumental temperature record, on the urban heat island, on climate models, on global cooling. On Feb. 14, he began to erase the Little Ice Age; on Aug.11, the Medieval Warm Period. In October, he turned his attention to the hockey stick graph. He rewrote articles on the politics of global warming and on the scientists who were skeptical of the band. Richard Lindzen and Fred Singer, two of the world’s most distinguished climate scientists, were among his early targets, followed by others that the band especially hated, such as Willie Soon and Sallie Baliunas of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, authorities on the Medieval Warm Period.

All told, Connolley created or rewrote 5,428 unique Wikipedia articles. His control over Wikipedia was greater still, however, through the role he obtained at Wikipedia as a website administrator, which allowed him to act with virtual impunity. When Connolley didn’t like the subject of a certain article, he removed it — more than 500 articles of various descriptions disappeared at his hand. When he disapproved of the arguments that others were making, he often had them barred — over 2,000 Wikipedia contributors who ran afoul of him found themselves blocked from making further contributions. Acolytes whose writing conformed to Connolley’s global warming views, in contrast, were rewarded with Wikipedia’s blessings. In these ways, Connolley turned Wikipedia into the missionary wing of the global warming movement.

Who does that remind us of?

We already knew that Wikipedia isn’t a reliable source for information on controversial issues, but rarely have we seen such naked gatekeeping as in this case. One can only conclude that the senior management supports this kind of one-sided editorializing masquerading as open information, and is willing to take a hit to their credibility for the cause. BTW, have you noticed, that just like another site that goes unnamed, their level of tip jar begging has increased dramatically lately? Hey guys, do you think maybe there’s a reason why people are hanging on to their change?

As an aside, sometimes we Americans get annoyed by some of the more obnoxious Canadians whom we have to deal with, but let me take this opportunity to salute McIntyre, Solomon, Levant, McKitrick, and many other of our neighbors to the North, for punching well above their weight on this issue, and showing leadership and true grit well beyond their numbers. If I had a hat, I’d take it off to these gentlemen (and ladies). Three cheers for Canada!

We’ve been there before. Remember the hyteria when the Republicans took the House and Senate in 1994? Old people were going to be eating dog food, babies would be denied their mother’s milk, and all pregnancies were going to end in coat-hanger abortions. Obama, left behind

I love it when the enemy eats it’s own.  Just because the insane Left is criticizing The One, does not make him any less of a Leftist himself (despite what a certain blogger says). Obama is an incrementalist – he will push the Socialist agenda slowly but surely now that he sees some opposition. Let there be no doubt about it – he is one of the Left and he shares their ultimate goals.

By MATT WELCH

Boy, this “Obama Derangement Syndrome” really has gotten out of hand. Why, just this past week the decreasingly popular president has been called a “bald-faced liar,” “an executive who can’t bring himself to lead,” and even an “Uncle Tom.”

And that’s just by liberals.

The progressive crack-up, before Obama even reaches the end of his first year, has been an awesome and occasionally humorous sight to see. Undead ’60s warhorse Tom Hayden got the ball rolling in early December with his dramatic announcement in The Nation that, with the president’s decision to increase troop levels, “It’s time to strip the Obama sticker off my car.”

Midas, nice of him to finally get a clue, yeah? As you said, it’s not as if it was a huge secret. They were blinded by what they wanted to see. Had they not been so enthralled with themselves, and their ability to vote for a black man, they would have seen that he was just another tax and spend anti-American democrat, ready to give away the country as fast as possible. Instead, they patted themselves on the back in an attempt to convince everyone that they aren’t racists, believing their own lies that anyone who voted against 0 was one.

0 is anti-American to the fifth degree. He has nothing in common with the real black American experience. He has nothing in common with the American experience. He comes from a leftists home, from a variety of anti-American, muslim or gay “father” figures. He’s never created a dime of wealth in his life. A kid working at McDonalds has created more wealth than our president. And now people are waking up to the fact that they elected someone merely because of his skin color and not his character.

So excuse me if I don’t fall all over people like Goodwin with praise and thanks. It was very apparent from the beginning that 0 was a mistake. We tried to tell them, but the fog of the media lights glaring off his skin was too much for them.

And before the leftists on this board knee-jerk their cries of “racist” at me, 0 is whiter than I am.

Bigger Than Watergate

ACORN critic Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) is mystified that both the Democratic-controlled Congress and the Obama administration aren't doing much about the tax-subsidized organized crime syndicate ACORN even as evidence of its wrongdoing continues to pile up.

In an exclusive interview, the House Judiciary Committee member describes the ACORN saga as "the largest corruption crisis in the history of America."

"It's thousands of times bigger than Watergate because Watergate was only a little break-in by a couple of guys," said King. "By the time we pull ACORN out by its roots America's going to understand just how big this is."

Unlike the Nixon-era Watergate scandal, the ACORN scandal reaches not only to the highest levels of government, but also to states and localities across America. The president himself and his political advisor Patrick Gaspard used to work for ACORN and the radical advocacy group has allies throughout congressional leadership who are bending over backwards to protect it. President Obama has also hired as White House counsel Bob Bauer, whom King described as "the number one defender of ACORN in the country." ...

Big Nanny’s slacker plan: Mandating insurance for adult “children”

December 21, 2009 12:25 PM by Michelle Malkin

Several times during the cloture debate on Sunday, Democrats hailed a provision requiring insurance plans that cover dependents to provide benefits to children up to age 26. Democrat Sens. Ben Cardin and Tom Harkin both championed the unfunded mandate in ther floor statements.

This manifestation of the Nanny State is especially galling given the massive levels of generational theft that the Democrat majority has presided over the last year.

I can tell you what most fiscally responsible parents are thinking when they hear the feds “taking care” of everyone else’s adult “children” for them by confiscating their tax dollars and forcing private companies to comply:

What. The. Hell.

In New Jersey, the slacker mandate covers “children” up to the age of 30.

30!!!

From The City That Brought You Nancy Pelosi

In 2007, the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) held a seminar for the nonprofits vying for a piece of $78 million in funding. Grant seekers were told that in the next funding cycle, they would be required — for the first time — to provide quantifiable proof their programs were accomplishing something.

The room exploded with outrage. This wasn't fair. "What if we can bring in a family we've helped?" one nonprofit asked. Another offered: "We can tell you stories about the good work we do!" Not every organization is capable of demonstrating results, a nonprofit CEO complained. He suggested the city's funding process should actually penalize nonprofits able to measure results, so as to put everyone on an even footing. Heads nodded: This was a popular idea.

Read on. 6.6 billion just doesn't get you what it used to.

Copenhagen, a $30 billion dollar “success”?

A funny thing happened this week. Humanity did a low-orbit bypass of a totalitarian world government, and pulled away, but only a few noticed the near miss.

Christopher Monckton has already spoken about the draft treaty with it’s message of setting up a new form of global governance, but without any mention of voting. He spoke again yesterday to Alex Jones and pointed out that in a sense Copenhagen succeeded, despite what everyone is saying. After all, it was never really about saving the environment was it? It was about setting up a world government, and they got the odd $30 billion dollars. Not bad for a failure. More »

Gaming the peer review system: IPCC scientists behaving badly

How IPCC scientists interfere with publication of inconvenient scientific results

By David H. Douglass, Professor of Physics, University of Rochester, New York, and John R. Christy, Distinguished Professor, Atmospheric Science, University of Alabama at Huntsville

  • In this article, reprinted from The American Thinker, two eminent Professors reveal just one of the many seamy stories that emerge from the Climategate emails. A prejudiced journal editor conspires with senior IPCC scientists to delay and discredit a paper by four distinguished scientists demonstrating that a central part of the IPCC’s scientific argument is erroneous.

The Climategate emails from the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in England have revealed how the normal conventions of the peer-review process appear to have been compromised by a Team of “global warming” scientists, with the willing cooperation of the editor of the International Journal of Climatology, Glenn McGregor.

The Team spent nearly a year preparing and publishing a paper that attempted to rebut a previously published paper in that journal by Douglass, Christy, Pearson and Singer. Our paper, reviewed and accepted in the traditional manner, had shown that the IPCC models that predicted significant “global warming” in fact largely disagreed with the observational data.

We will let the reader judge whether this team effort, revealed in dozens of emails and taking nearly a year, involves inappropriate behavior including (a) unusual cooperation between authors and editor, (b) misstatement of known facts, (c) character assassination, (d) avoidance of traditional scientific give-and-take, (e) using confidential information, (f) misrepresentation (or misunderstanding) of the scientific question posed by us in our paper, (g) withholding data, and more.

The team is a group of a number of climate scientists who frequently collaborate and publish papers which often supports the hypothesis of human-caused global warming. For present purposes, leading members of the Team include Ben Santer, Phil Jones, Timothy Osborn, and Tom Wigley, with lesser roles for several others.

Douglass and Christy on Climategate

Posted by Jeff Id on December 20, 2009

This may be the best illustration of the conspiracy (presented to date) to block and minimize papers which don’t support the consensus on the internet. It’s written by Douglass and Christy and puts a long string of the Climategate emails into context. The papers in question are absolutely central to the climate change debate, as they call into question the validity of climate models.

I asked American Thinker for permission to repost this article here and was unfortunately told to excerpt no more than 200 words. The article cannot be summarized in that length, it is technical and requires careful reading. However, it is a must read for everyone, but in particular for the technical CA regulars who know the details in the Santer debate.

Climategate, in context by the victims of those in power, has a whole different flavor – and the revelations will be continuing for some time yet.

Demcare and the race hustlers: It’s not just about ACORN

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 21, 2009 10:28 PM

The Weekly Standard’s John McCormack reports tonight that Illinois Democrat Sen. Roland Burris is claiming credit for inserting a provision that may benefit ACORN.

But it’s not just the ACORN angle that’s scandalous.

It’s the race hustler shakedown.

Why, oh, why do we need to be funding massive new federal bureaucracies to create separate “Offices of Minority Health” in six separate health care agencies:

The provision [Burris] cites, found on pages 240 through 248 of the manager’s amendment, requires that six different agencies each establish an “Office of Minority Health.” The agencies are the “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.”

According to page 241 of the amendment:

In carrying out this subsection, the Secretary, acting through the Deputy Assistant Secretary, shall award grants, contracts, enter into memoranda of understanding, cooperative, interagency, intra-agency and other agreements with public and nonprofit private entities, agencies, as well as Departmental and Cabinet agencies and organizations, and with organizations that are indigenous human resource providers in communities of color to assure improved health status of racial and ethnic minorities, and shall develop measures to evaluate the effectiveness of activities aimed at reducing health disparities and supporting the local community. Such measures shall evaluate community outreach activities, language services, workforce cultural competence, and other areas as determined by the Secretary.’’

According to a Senate legislative aide, the scandal-plagued Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now could qualify for grants under this provision. ACORN would also qualify for funding on page 150 of the underlying Reid bill, which says that “community and consumer-focused nonprofit groups” may receive grants to “conduct public education activities to raise awareness of the availability of qualified health plans.”

As I pointed out in July, there are more race-based fiefdoms created by the Demcare architects:

New bureaucracies always have old special interests to appease. The Bureau of Health Information will house its own “Office of Civil Rights” and “Office of Minority Health.” The information czar will be required to collect health statistics in the “primary language” of ethnic minorities – and thus, the need for a new “language demonstration program” to showcase their efforts. Obamacare will also ensure “cultural and linguistics competence training” and establish “a youth public health program to expose and recruit high school students into public health careers.” The government health care juggernaut must be fed and staffed, after all.

And as I pointed out in October, SEIU is leading an entire new generation of ACORN-esque shakedown artists ready to step up to the subsidy-filled plate:

It takes 67 votes to change the rules of the US Senate, always has. Reid inserted into the Health Care bill a provision that changes the rules so that it will take 67 votes to repeal the legislation. They are passing this change with only 60 votes. This is a bare faced assault on the Constitution. This is on the order of what Obama and Chavez’s friend the thug Zelaya attempted in Honduras. This is happening in America...

Some think that Obama is incompetent while others think he’s lazy.

Why not both? I think he’s too lazy to have ever learned how to be competent in anything other than bamboozling idiots.

The States Can Check Washington's Power

FOX NEWS' JUDGE ANDREW NAPOLITANO SAID IT BEST Free people enjoy the right to use nullification as a protective measure... to have their state legislatures act to prevent federal domination.

A legacy of USSC Taney's Dred Scott judicial activism, was that the ruling would lay the groundwork for the rights of states to nullify----to make null; to invalidate; to counteract the force or effectiveness of unconstitutional laws.

Nullification in US history, is a doctrine expounded by the advocates of states' rights. It held that states have the right to declare null and void any federal law that they deem unconstitutional.

The dems, and especially B to the O have lost any credibility on these topics that the general public is looking for leadership on.

The public is more than a little suspecious that AGW is a hoax, healthcare is being used as a way to usher in socialism, and Washington will ever have any will to reduce spending in any meaningful way.

SP can sieze the high ground on AGW and she has, at times taken the h/c debate by the throat.  Not as sure about spending, but the opening will definitely be there for her or someone to grab the reigns and usher in the next conservative revolution.  All it will take is a leader with moral clarity to make the impassioned case to a public thirsty for the same.

Obama's tenure in office imo, will go down in history as the "Shit Happens" presidency. Read It All At The Link- ti's rude and funny- but too true.

129 mistress overdone: "I came to the conclusion long ago that everything obama is doing is intentional. he wants to bankrupt the country. he thinks that by doing so he will finally destroy free market capitalism, which to him is the biggest evil in the world..."

Absolutely. Economic reset by Marxists. Redistribute the wealth.

We have three general, economic constituencies of varying size: poor, middle class, and wealthy. The class that will be destroyed (and the one that really makes this nation unique) is the large but ever-dwindling middle class. Obama et al. wish to eliminate this demographic and a good bit of the wealthy (that do not toe the liberal line).

By destroying the value of the dollar and printing monopoly money, our economy will experience hyperinflation. The poor won't care. They're being promised and given subsidies for everything no matter the cost, so currency is meaningless to them. Life becomes essentially free via handout. Their rolls will swell.

The selected rich who hold political power will continue skimming money either via special interest avenues or outright corruption through federal handouts. The value of their wealth will drop to some degree as hyperinflation continues, but they'll still remain relatively rich compared to everyone else. When the economy is reset, they still have cash to convert into a more stable currency while retaining the avenues to more due to their high social/economic/political position. They'll still sit atop the socioeconomic ladder.

The middle class, the group that must struggle the most to subsidize federal programs, will see its wealth vanish. Years of conscientious saving due to means-living will evaporate as the value of the dollar collapses. Wealth, you say? Poof. Gone like dollars blowing out of a wheelbarrow. All its members can do now is hope for a barter economy and government handout. Many will become slaves to the latter.

This is the macroeconomic reset I fear most and that I think is in play. The end would be a massive expansion of the dependent poor controlled by a select elite. This is economic communism. The ideology of the public won't wholeheartedly support it, but it's an economic jail the likes of which a Van Jones, a Soros, and an Obama would enjoy and could actually pull off. Don't think something like this is out of the realm of possibilities even if it takes more than a few years. Socialism can evolve quickly and uncontrollably and, given what we've seen happen in media, government, and courts, history and heritage is no refuge. We've been offending our Founding Fathers for generations.

It seems Warren Buffett has finally woken up to the ridiculous economic notions of our liberal friends. (Check out his video below)

The ‘Cap and Trade’ bill is now over 1200 pages in length, based on ridiculous global warming science that is nothing more than baloney. This is nothing new for the Democrats, almost every bill they push through is based on baloney ideas, but this one takes the cake.  Below is the real story on the bill based on CBO (Congressional Budget Office) and Heritage Foundation analysis.

Get The Frackin' Gas

Energy: An oil company wants to invest its profits in clean-burning American natural gas. A Hungarian billionaire and a "green" politician want to stop it. This is the real Climate-gate scandal.

While the greenies of the world united in Copenhagen to talk about the weather, emitting a Third World-country-size chunk of greenhouse gases to gather there, the world's largest oil company, Exxon Mobil, was doing something about it.

On Dec. 14, Exxon agreed to buy XTO Energy, a natural gas firm, in a deal valued at $41 billion. XTO is one of the leaders in something called "fracking" technology, in which water, sand and additives are pumped into the ground to unlock trillions of feet of natural gas previously thought to be unobtainable.

This is what energy companies really do with their profits. They find more energy, then sell it to you.

While the technique is not new, the technology exploiting it is.

XTO has helped develop new technologies that let it drill a single well 9,000 feet and then bore horizontally through shale formations to unlock the natural gas trapped in the porous rock. The rock is fractured and the gas is pushed into accessible pockets whence it can be extracted with a minimal surface footprint.

Because of these new technologies, it is estimated that the U.S. sits on 83% more recoverable natural gas than was thought in 1990.

THREATSWATCH: A stealth move toward joining the ICC?  Last Thursday, December 17, 2009, The White House released an Executive Order "Amending Executive Order 12425." It grants INTERPOL (International Criminal Police Organization) a new level of full diplomatic immunity afforded to foreign embassies and select other "International Organizations" as set forth in the United States International Organizations Immunities Act of 1945. By removing language from President Reagan's 1983 Executive Order 12425, this international law enforcement body now operates - now operates - on American soil beyond the reach of our own top law enforcement arm, the FBI, and is immune from Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

ROGER SIMON: Post Copenhagen: Is Man-Made Global Warming a Dead Issue?

The Sound Of Settled Science

Hey Phil - you missed a paper;

In his paper, Qing-Bin Lu, a professor of physics and astronomy, shows how CFCs – compounds once widely used as refrigerants – and cosmic rays – energy particles originating in outer space – are mostly to blame for climate change, rather than carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. His paper, derived from observations of satellite, ground-based and balloon measurements as well as an innovative use of an established mechanism, was published online in the prestigious journal Physics Reports.

“My findings do not agree with the climate models that conventionally thought that greenhouse gases, mainly CO2, are the major culprits for the global warming seen in the late 20th century,” Lu said. “Instead, the observed data show that CFCs conspiring with cosmic rays most likely caused both the Antarctic ozone hole and global warming. These findings are totally unexpected and striking, as I was focused on studying the mechanism for the formation of the ozone hole, rather than global warming.”

His conclusions are based on observations that from 1950 up to now, the climate in the Arctic and Antarctic atmospheres has been completely controlled by CFCs and cosmic rays, with no CO2 impact.

The rest is at WUWT, (along with lots of discussion/skepticism in the comments).

Gavin Schmidt – Conspiracy Theorist

by snork ( 123 Comments › )
Filed under Global Warming Hoax, Media, Science at December 22nd, 2009 - 9:00 pm

Gavin Schmidt is one of the NASA climate scientists who has been peripherally involved in the Climategate affair, and more well known as the chief sysop at Realclimate.org, a website run by the far-left wing Fenton Communications, and funded in part by the Tides Foundation. He’s also an employee of James Hansen, who has been curiously uninvolved in the climategate affair (and has actually been a critic of Copenchangen, but from the other side).

Last June, before the story broke, Schmidt appeared in this interview, where he tries to explain, in his usual opaque way, what the settled science is, and what isn’t. The rather long-winded dissertation is generally correct, as far as the science part goes, and doesn’t seem as polemical as some of his postings on Realclimate.

Five years ago I was less of a public persona in climate-science than I am now. But at the time, the voices that were being heard discussing climate change were at odds with the science. The Wall Street Journal was featuring attacks on scientists; Congress was filled with know-nothings; and, in the mainstream media, every time there was a story, you would have one of the five obligatory contrarians pop up and say “oh no, everything will be fine.”

So in his world, the congress is full of anti-science “know-nothings”, and the right-leaning MSM is conspiring against the scientists who are only after the truth. But then we get this:

There was no public voice for the science community. There were a few scientists who would step out occasionally — Steve Schneider is one. But there was no community pushing to correct the record or to inform people about the actual scientific results. I began to dabble in public outreach, sending letters to the editor, writing the occasional Op-Ed, talking to journalists. It was all to little effect.

So he organizes a scientific crusade against the anti-science know-nothing Moors to restore science to its rightful place (and you wonder where Chuckles gets this stuff):

Over the past five years, I have spent a lot of time building up resources. We spend a lot of time building background for journalists, staffers, and for science advisors of various kinds. We’re building up resources that people can use so that they can tell what is a good argument and what is a bad argument. And there has been a shift. There has been a shift in the media; there has been a shift in the majority of people who advise policymakers; there has been a shift in policymakers. This kind of effort — and not just by me, but also by other equally concerned people — has had the effect of elevating the conversation.

Yeah. In the CRUtape letters™, the paranoia starts to come out: 1228258714.txt

From: Gavin Schmidt <gschmidt@xxxxxxxxx.xxx>
To: [team]

Ben, there are two very different things going on here. One is technical and related to the actual science and the actual statistics, the second is political, and is much more concerned with how incidents like this can be portrayed. The second is the issue here.

The unfortunate fact is that the ’secret science’ meme is an extremely powerful rallying call to people who have no idea about what is going on. Claiming (rightly or wrongly) that information is being hidden has a huge amount of resonance (as you know), much more so than whether Douglass et al know their statistical elbow from a hole in the ground.

Thus any increase in publicity on this – whether in the pages of Nature or elsewhere – is much more likely to bring further negative fallout despite your desire to clear the air. Whatever you say, it will still be presented as you hiding data.

The contrarians have found that there is actually no limit to what you can ask people for (raw data, intermediate steps, additional calculations, residuals, sensitivity calculations, all the code, a workable version of the code on any platform etc.), and like Somali pirates they have found that once someone has paid up, they can always shake them down again.

[...]

Oh, dear. The “contrarians” (and let’s at least give Schmidt credit for avoiding the Holocaust-mongering “denier” term) are Somali pirates. And this is the guy standing up for science against the tide of know-nothings.

Back to the original article, here’s the final paragraph:

The problem is that the noise serves various people’s purposes. It’s not that the noise is accidental. When it comes to climate, a lot of the noise is deliberate because if there’s an increase of noise you don’t hear the signal, and if you don’t hear the signal you can’t do anything about it. Increasing the level of noise is a deliberate political tactic. It’s been used by all segments of the political spectrum for different problems. With the climate issue in the US, it is used by a particular segment of the political community in ways that is personally distressing. How do you deal with that? That is a question, which I am still asking myself.

So, it’s all a conspiracy. It’s deliberate misinformation. This guy can’t imagine that people have legitimate questions. That, ladies and gentlemen, is a religious belief system, not the mind of a scientist.

Bizzarrely, he doesn’t even recognize that his own website is owned, operated, and funded by political polemics. Or maybe he does.

Update: More on Gavin and Realclimate here.

Democrats have their eyes on a different end-game than our guys do: namely, the establishment of permanent, European-style socialism in the U.S. Our guys are focused on converting Obama radicalism into big-time electoral success in the next election cycle. The Dems have already factored in that likelihood and are betting — over the long haul — that even if the GOP cuts deeply into Dem majorities or takes over Congress (and even takes over the White House in 2012), Republicans will lack the commitment (and perhaps the numbers) to roll back what the Left is accomplishing now.

Senate Bill Has Un-Killable ‘Death Panel’

December 22nd, 2009

Here’s what we would call ‘the Death Panel,’ from page 1001 of the Senate bill (a pdf file):

Video at Link:

1 ‘‘INDEPENDENT MEDICARE ADVISORY BOARD

2 ‘‘SEC. 1899A. (a) ESTABLISHMENT.—There is estab3

lished an independent board to be known as the ‘Inde4

pendent Medicare Advisory Board’.

5 ‘‘(b) PURPOSE.—It is the purpose of this section to,

6 in accordance with the following provisions of this section,

7 reduce the per capita rate of growth in Medicare spend8

ing—

9 ‘‘(1) by requiring the Chief Actuary of the Cen10

ters for Medicare & Medicaid Services to determine

11 in each year to which this section applies (in this

12 section referred to as ‘a determination year’) the

13 projected per capita growth rate under Medicare for

14 the second year following the determination year (in

15 this section referred to as ‘an implementation year’);

16 ‘‘(2) if the projection for the implementation

17 year exceeds the target growth rate for that year, by

18 requiring the Board to develop and submit during

19 the first year following the determination year (in

20 this section referred to as ‘a proposal year’) a pro21

posal containing recommendations to reduce the

22 Medicare per capita growth rate to the extent re23

quired by this section; and…

It would seem that the government will become the ultimate actuaries.

And when the actuaries are the same people deciding on who can get what treatment, when they are tasked with reducing costs, things can get pretty dicey.

But here’s another twist. It would appear that the Death Panels are un-killable.

From page 1020 in this same section of the Senate bill:

5 ‘‘(B) LIMITATION ON CHANGES TO THE

6 BOARD RECOMMENDATIONS IN OTHER LEGISLA7

TION.—It shall not be in order in the Senate or

8 the House of Representatives to consider any

9 bill, resolution, amendment, or conference re10

port (other than pursuant to this section) that

11 would repeal or otherwise change the rec12

To tell the truth, I am gun-shy now. I suspect everything nowadays

Good, then you are awakened fully to post 20th century politics, or even politics in general. I do not care be they republican, democrat or independent. Whenever legislation is being debated I always ask myself two things: “What could possibly go wrong?” and “Who’s gonna pay for it?” There are often other critical things to consider but those usually crop up first.

jobeth, your posts are insightful and enlightening. As many, I have learned a great deal by reading this blog every day that I can. Additionally, such things are becoming the voice of a free America, which is why I estimate the “liberals” will do their utmost to shut such things down. BillK may be right in that the democrats intend to never step down and just completely take over in a coups, anything is possible. But there are a HUGE number of Americans who will not stand for that and in such a occurrence, things will degenerate. Maybe not right away but as people’s lives get affected adversely and repeatedly, there will be consequences.

Many are angry now. But this is nothing compared to the anger that is coming when hyperinflation hits next year. The main purpose of that “little trick” taking a lesson again from pre-nazi Germany, is the wheelbarrow loads of cash needed to by the most basic necessities…..thereby allowing the nitwit in the big chair to declare martial law “for the protection of the people”.

Just remember for now that everything and anything this government “accomplishes” is for the gain of power and to seek permanence of poverty for you and me.

THE ART OF THE PAINLESS COUP

PART I

Peggy Noonan wrote a piece [October 27, 2005] in the WSJ that made many people unhappy; some found it defeatist, some found it reminiscent of Jimmy Carter’s “malaise” speech, some found it downright paranoid and semi-hysterical.

I found it to be none of those things. My impression, as one Long Island Irish Catholic Girl reading another, was that Noonan is on to something, but she’s not quite there with it. Perhaps that is because the next step to “there” is a step any successful and credible public figure would be very cautious about taking; it is a step toward the Eternal, toward things seen and unseen. To take such a step is to risk reputation and a life-time of work. I don’t blame her for not taking it.

I however, am not a successful and credible public figure, and I have no reputation to risk. Like Groucho, I have no wish to belong to any club that would have me, and so I can dare to walk where Ms. Noonan could not.

Noonan expressed her belief that, subconsciously, Americans are wandering through their days with a sense of things being, “Off the tracks and hurtling forward, toward an unknown destination.”

Everything…A sense of unreality in our courts so deep that they think they can seize grandma’s house to build a strip mall; our media institutions imploding…Senators who seem owned by someone, actually owned, by an interest group or a financial entity. Great churches that have lost all sense of mission, and all authority. Do you have confidence in the CIA? The FBI? I didn’t think so.

A sense of unreality…yes…and illusions, too.

Some might argue that what is coming “off the tracks” are the easy illusions of 20th century America: The perhaps naive notions that our elected leaders actually seek office to serve the public good. That the press is interested only in presenting the truth, no matter what. That our courts are peopled with lofty higher beings and geniuses who know better than the rest of us. That our churches are both safe havens and by-ways to heaven.

There was a time in America when all of those statements would have been accepted at face value. In our nation’s babyhood we believed and we trusted all the parent figures – the governments, the courts, the press, the churches.

Now, past infancy, we have come to look upon those institutions with the glare of adolescent angst. We’ve observed enough to understand that those in authority over us are not the paragons of perfection we’d so looked up to as toddlers. We see them flawed, weak, seducable, wholly human and fallible, and like good adolescents who have caught Mom and Dad lying or stumbling drunk, we at first sneered about it and gave some voice to our sense of betrayal. Now, we’re merely numb. Since our “parents” in these authoritative roles have proven themselves to be mere creatures, and not heroes, well, we’ve turned up the volume on our ipods, buried ourselves in our trendy lambskin coats and shut our doors to them.

Our older siblings are observing this behavior with a measure of satisfaction. I am not talking about our cousins across the Atlantic. I mean the “elites” whom Noonan writes have decided to find their “seperate peace” in all of this. She writes:

I suspect that history…will look back and see that many of our elites simply decided to enjoy their lives while they waited for the next chapter of trouble…

You’re a lobbyist or a senator or a cabinet chief, you’re an editor at a paper or a green-room schmoozer, you’re a doctor or lawyer or Indian chief, and you’re making your life a little fortress. That’s what I think a lot of the elites are up to.

Here is where I think Noonan falls a little short. These elites are not simply milling about waiting for “the next chapter of trouble.” I think in too many cases they -like troubled eldest siblings, the “first children” who have never quite gotten over the subsequent additions to the family- have been actively fomenting chapter after chapter of trouble, for some 40 years. They are complacently building little fortresses, but they are doing so for a reason. Having written all of these chapters of trouble, they are feeling quite confident that their story is solidly structured, and they are ready for the dénouement they have planned. The anticipation of their surprise ending is making them almost giddy.

The ending, of course, is the coup d’état. Believing that the rest of us, now disillusioned, are no longer clinging to romantic ideals of honor, or truth or nobility, these always-restless First Children, devoted to deconstruction, believe they are about to take down the presidency, the churches, the “old” government and even the “old” media. They expect to put into place something “brand new.” But believe me when I tell you what they are building is older than dirt. And up from it. Which is why they will need their fortresses. Castro lives in one, too.

They’ve been practicing all of this, by the way, perfecting the Art of the Painless Coup so thoroughly that most ordinary folks do not even realize what has occured.

Over the past 40 years these hyperactive First Children have been pulling off small scale coups with varying levels of success. They managed to deconstruct the academies, so that education is less a broadening of knowledge than a narrowing of perspective. They have deconstructed the liturgy to insist that a pantomime in clownface is a vast improvement over 2000 year-old sacrament and liturgy. They have deconstructed government by constructing something so huge and unwieldy that nothing coming out of it is reliable or dependable, and almost no one is accountable, either. They have deconstructed the press to the point where the truth of a story is less important than how it may be framed and spun. They have deconstructed the idea of fascism to mean “those democracies in Israel and America” rather than the freedom-suppressing regimes which surround them.

And all the while they have been busily pulling things apart, they have kept the rest of the family distracted with the television, with the radio, with the cinema – any or all of which have instantly been called into service whenever someone got a little bored and looked around, wondering what these kids were up to. “Abortion?” said Aunt Sally, “Abortion is a terrible thing!” Suddenly every news story is about the grim circumstance of illegal abortion. Suddenly sitcoms are showing the way. “Well, if Maude had an abortion…maybe sometimes it’s a good thing…”

“Free love,” sputtered Uncle Jim, “it’s immoral! It’s damaging to the family!” Suddenly every film hero or heroine is having free, uncomplicated, undamaging sex, and flashing some gratuitous T and A at Uncle Jim in the process. “I dunno,” he smiles to Aunt Sally as he settles back, “maybe it’s not all that bad…”

Except that Aunt Sally, having been spoon-fed her enlightenment by media overrun with these busy First Children and their co-horts, is not around to hear him. She has taken off her bra, taken the pill and several dozen lovers, she has “found herself,” lost her children and moved in with her newest partner, Charlene. They own cats and attend drum circles. They protest whenever possible, because a good protest can validate almost any life-choice by pinpointing and naming an enemy, and declaring that enemy an oppressor and a villain, even if that villain is liberating men, women and children and trying to create a safer world. “An illusion!” They shout. “There is no liberation, there is no safer world, there is no nobility, no honor, no truth! All lies!”

I will spare you the part where they strip down to their birthday suits and dance around, their sagging, pendulous breasts swaying out of sync with the drums.

PART II

The First Children applaud Aunt Sally. They love the distraction she causes as they work feverishly on their coup.

I think Ms. Noonan’s sense of things being “off-kilter,” is her own gut understanding that the painless coup is near, and perhaps she is not quite sure what might be done to prevent it.

Well, one way to prevent the coup is to be utterly fearless and authentic in pronouncing the things we believe. Pope John Paul II (and now Pope Benedict XVI) made enormous headway against the Painless Coup, which had gone so far as to turn our beautiful churches into bare concrete monstrosities (ready-made for quick-conversion into temples to secular reason) and he managed to reclaim the liturgy and renew appreciation for the Eucharist by repeating the truth over and over, with the reminder, “do not be afraid!”

Thus so, we must repeat, over and over, that while illusions may well be all around us, some amorphous notions, like honor and freedom and truth, are still real. They are not just real, they are Eternal.

We must repeat again and again that America’s honor is no illusion. Imperfect as it may be this is still the land to which – in large or small ways – every free nation owes its current liberty. This is the nation that has routinely sent its idealistic young men off to foreign lands -to die there- not for empire, not for real-estate, but for the protection and advancement of that unseen thing that is freedom, the strengthener of the human spirit, the burnisher of human potential. First Children and their motley co-horts aside, this is still the nation to which millions of creative or industrious people wish to come, it is the nation to which the oppressed call out for rescue and relief.

We must repeat, over and over, that the American Presidency is, like a papacy or a monarchy, larger than the person who occupies the office, and that it is noble. The American President freed slaves when too many would not entertain the notion. The American President has carried the big stick used to overthrow tyrants and bullies both foreign and domestic. The American President has put his airmen to use to keep his vanquished enemies in Berlin from starving in a brutal winter, he has used his navy to bring aid after tsunami. The American President has dreamed great space voyages into reality, has opened closed markets, has encouraged a people to tear down walls. The American President has envisioned tens of millions of people raising purple fingertips to the sky, and made it so.

We must repeat, over and over, that Liberty is the means by which we created creatures are meant to live and to grow and be. That Liberty lives in the Truth. That Liberty lives where people can speak freely, without fear of injury or reprisals. That Liberty lives only when the press is free and unencumbered – when it is detached from events instead of entwined in them. That Liberty lives when people refuse to be intimidated into silence or acquiescence, whether in the workplace or within the community. That Liberty is the fragile thing that diminishes whenever one refuses to acclaim it for oneself.

In between all of those repetitions, we must do something else, if we are to stave off the Painless Coup. We are going to have to turn away from our distractions – the television, the radio, the magazines, the talkshows, the films, the fashions, the escapist entertainment, even the internet. We will have to turn away from these empty things – to make them smaller in our lives, where they and the popular culture now loom so large – and we are going to have to get quiet.

A good musician knows that music is not created only by playing notes, but by understanding the spaces between the notes, and their value. Just so, it will not be enough to simply repeat what is true – if that is all we do, it will only add to the din – there must also be silence, in which to do our other, more powerful work.

It is a cacophony of noise that fuels so many illusions, and allows those “chapters of trouble” to be so deftly written. The overstimulation of our senses has severely dulled our internal sensors. We have lost our bearings and our boundaries so profoundly that we are no longer guarded, interiorly, against scam-artists and tricksters.

We have to get those bearings back – to find our centers and get back in touch with our “gut instincts,” which are there for a reason. And the way to get back to the center – to our center, our “gut” – is through prayer and meditation and contemplation. Prayer has power. No force can stand against it. Not even the force of a generation bearing down and driving hard against everything that came before itself.

CONCLUSION:

It is true that there are many illusions in the world. And on the world stage there stride some masters of the sleight-of-hand and the misdirection – you can recognize them because they are all of a mind, and of a piece, and they are all working different parts of the same trick.

But if you can recognize a trick for what it is, you can prevail against it.

And this is where the Eternal comes in – the things seen and unseen, which I mentioned earlier. An illusionist, no matter how masterful, is still peddling an illusion. He has nothing behind him but his crossed fingers. Prayer is no illusion, and one needn’t be a master to tap into its tremendous force. Even a novice may use it, although one does get stronger with practice and growth comes, for prayer is never stagnant.

Aunt Sally has no idea how disposable she is, or how her raised consciousness has been a mere means to an end, another illusion. In the coming denouement, she and Charlene and poor old, befuddled Uncle Jim will be equally expendable, or useful only for keeping the foodlines and the medical lines straight. They will all be outside the “fortresses” of the elites, with the rest of us, if the Coup is permitted, if the First Children achieve their goal.

So, it is time for the rest of us to turn off the ipods, shed the lambskin coat and come out of our self-imposed exile, ready to do battle. Things are indeed messed up and off-kilter. But no matter how much our parent figures in the government or the courts, or the churches or even the few grown-ups left in the press may embarrass us or disappoint, they’re still ours. They belong to us, and the bond is forever. And it is time to get busy.

Ho-Ho-No!
Today hundreds of protesters met at liberal Senator Claire McCaskill’s office to tell her—
“We don’t want your stinking gift!”

We Won’t Forget, Claire–

Missouri Doesn’t Want Obama’s Rationed Health Care Bill, but Claire McCaskill supported the power grab by liberals anyway.

An angry protester.

Protesters returned the favor and brought Claire McCaskill lumps of coal today.

Claire McCaskill gave Missouri rationed health care this week. So today tea party protesters returned the favor. Each protester was rationed one lump of coal to leave at McCaskill’s St. Louis office.
(That’s a catchy Christmas song, huh? …A good solid B+.)

Here’s a recycling idea that just might catch on with conservatives.

My column today builds on this post about the slacker mandate in Demcare — and examines how the chief architects of the government health care are openly achieving single-payer-by-proxy. Listen to the final self-congratulatory paeans to “health care as a right” this morning and you’ll understand exactly what I’m talking about and exactly what they are achieving.

Nanny State Gone Wild: Defining dependency up
by Michelle Malkin

The greatest gifts you can give your children can’t be boxed and bowed. Consider the timeless gift of self-sufficiency – a stubborn thirst to leave the nest, make it own your own, and live as a free-willed adult. It’s a concept that Big Nanny Democrats are sabotaging at every legislative turn.

Several times during the sneaky weekend debate on the government health care takeover bill this past Sunday, Democrats hailed a provision requiring insurance plans that cover dependents to provide benefits to children up to age 26. Democrat Sens. Ben Cardin and Tom Harkin both specifically championed the unfunded mandate in their floor statements.

This manifestation of the Nanny State is especially galling given the massive levels of generational theft that the Democrat majority has presided over the last year. If they truly cared about the physical and financial well-being of young Americans, they’d stop piling on expensive regulations that simply put affordable health insurance out of their reach. I propose a new symbol for the Democrats. Out: Donkey. In: A giant adult pacifier.

I can tell you what most fiscally responsible parents are thinking when they hear the feds “taking care” of everyone else’s adult “children” for them by confiscating their tax dollars and forcing private companies to comply: You’ve got to be kidding me. Yes, Virginia, there are still some of us left who believe our children shouldn’t depend on a government-manufactured umbilical cord as they approach their third decade on earth.

Nonetheless, there are now an estimated 20 states that have already passed legislation requiring insurers to cover adult children. The slacker mandates cover “kids” ranging in age from 24 to 31. And it’s these very government health care mandates that are driving up the cost of insurance. Health policy researcher Nathan Benefield of the Commonwealth Institute reported that in New Jersey, Nanny State peddlers claimed the adult kiddie protection law would help 100,000 uninsured young adults. “Yet in two years, only 6% of that estimate has been realized. The primary reason—health insurance is still too expensive.”

Wisconsin has experienced similar results. “Whenever you insure somebody whom you didn’t insure before there’s some additional risk,” insurance expert James Mueller told the Milwaukee Sentinel-Journal. Mueller points to the premium increases that have followed over coverage mandates on employer-sponsored plans. “The problem with all these good ideas is there’s funding necessary,” Mueller said. In Wisconsin, adult children are not only covered, but also the children of those “children” if they live in single-parent homes.

As he rammed this mandate and the mountain of other government regulations buried in Demcare, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid promised on Sunday: “We are reshaping the nation. That’s what we want to do.” Indeed, this defining dependency up phenomenon is part of the larger push for single-payer-by-proxy. The other universal health care Trojan Horse signed into law this year – the expansion of SCHIP (the State Children’s Health Insurance Program) – welcomed more non-“children” into the government insurance fold.

Both political parties have advocated federal waivers to use SCHIP funds for adults, including parents of Medicaid/SCHIP children, caretaker relatives, legal guardians, and childless adults. According to the General Accounting Office, SCHIP-funded expenditures on adults nationwide “totaled about $674 million in 2006.” J.P. Wieske of the Council for Affordable Health Insurance notes that the bennies incentivize parents to drop their private coverage in order to take advantage of free or discounted health insurance for their children. “It has become a program for the middle class at the expense of the poor.”

This is the engine that will power the Demcare architects’ most naked, radical ambitions: “Health care as an inalienable right,” as Sen. Harkin put it. How? By breeding a massive permanent culture of dependency and bottomless debt in the name of the “children” from birth through quarterlife — and beyond.

Sign of the times: Nebraskans Jokerize Ben Nelson

The source of Ben the Joker may be from a challenge put down from the gents over at Hillbuzz.

"As we have stated before, we do not believe anyone who votes for this monstrosity should be re-elected.  That means we’re going to have to start opposing people we’ve long supported.

So be it...The reason we are so up in arms about this is the way this legislation was handled:  no bill this important, with nation-changing provisions, should be crafted in secret and voted on in the dead of night in the face of great public outrage."

Mark Steyn and Michelle Malkin talked tonight on Hannity about the growing backlash against the crappy Obamacare bill. Michelle also mentioned the “Obama’s joker” signs that are popping up across the country this week.

Michelle Malkin says this jokerizing trend is just the beginning of the end for these log rollers and bribe takers.
(It was nice of Michelle to mention this blog.)

After the bribes were handed out…
Obama’s Senate Jokers lined up to support his crappy nationalized health care bill this week.
Here are a few–

Obama’s Jokers: Senator Claire McCaskill, Senator Carl Levin, Senator Ben Nelson, Senator Al Franken, Senator Mary Landrieu, Senator Dick Durbin (The Nose on Your Face, Michelle Malkin & Frisk a Liberal)

Hey, lets just revisit the ObamaCare™ campaign promises eh?

—Purple Avenger

How many of these Obama promises have turned out to be lies?

Offers a public health insurance option to provide the uninsured and those who can’t find affordable coverage with a real choice.
Right away we know that one is down the tubes in what the Senate is going to vote on. But wait...didn't Obama claim he didn't campaign on the public option? Yea, he did. Wait a minute...that link is his own campaign website claiming there will be a public option.

There's kinda two choices here: he lies, or he lies. Take your pick.

Peruse the promises yourself and comment on how the Reid/Pelosi "sausage" stacks up against the promises.

Obama has known “uninvited” White House party crashers with ties to Hamas since 2005

surprise

Look at the pic above. See the guy wearing the white suit with the blue shirt? Now see the blond with the white dress? See The Zero™ in the middle?

This picture was taken 6/9/05. It seems Obama has known these two phoneys for awhile, at least when he was a Senator.

They were getting all this press as being uninvited “party crashers” and the Secret Service is taking heat.

No wonder the couple who crashed Obama’s State dinner last week keep insisting they were invited guests…they know Barry from way back when he was still an Illinois Senator. Is Obama trying to throw the Secret Service under the bus?

Tareq and Michaele Salahi snapped the pic above with Obama at a “Rock The Vote” event on June 9, 2005 (also attended by John McCain, whom the Salahi’s also took a pic with).

McCain won an award for his work on campaign finance reform”. “Just call me Funk Master McCain,” he told the audience of 1,000 in accepting his award. Obama won an award for “forming a multiracial coalition in winning his seat”.

Michaele Salahi is getting quite a ribbing in the press for lying about being a Redskins cheerleader, but Tareq is the more interesting of the two to me. He has ties to Palestinian terrorists.

Tareq is a board member of the ATFP- American Task Force on Palestine, which has quickly scrubbed its site of the fact.
Today there is no mention of Tariq. Now why is that? And just who are the ATFP?

The ATFP has ties to Chicago, ties to Muslim radicals, ties to Hamas, and ties to Saudi Wahhabists. It is arguably the American wing of Hamas. The group’s co-founder is Rashid Khalidi, the guy purported to have helped finance Obama’s Harvard education and who was also instrumental in getting Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak at Columbia University.

During the Beruit war, Khalidi was a PLO spokesperson. After the war, he came back to teach at the University of Chicago. He is a virulent critic of Israel, and was a strong supporter of Fatah terrorist Yassar Arafat. Obama has referred to Khalidi as someone who challenges his “own biases.”

Why do the same dubious tentacles seem to continually surround Obama? The fact that the ATFP is scrubbing information on Salahi from their website suggests possible damage control coordination between the ATFP and the White House. If the ATFP was acting independently, there would be no reason to scrub Salahi’s name from their site.

It looks like Salahi was an invited guest to the dinner, that he was “outed” and the administration had to come up with a rational excuse for his presence.

Now the Salahis want to sell their story since they’re a little broke these days and are being sued for fraud and other crimes they allegedly committed in Virginia, but they still live very high on the hog.

The Secret Service has already apologized for the incident, but they may clear their names if the Salahis start singing. If someone with ties to the American wing of Hamas can get face to face with the President without the Secret Service realizing it, that is a major security lapse. However, if Obama’s people knowingly allowed Salahi in and are now throwing the Secret Service under the bus to cover themselves, that would be a major scandal.

Some Republicans in Congress are calling for an investigation, but as usual, the libtards are covering for The Zero™ and his wife. Funny how this has not come out in the state-controlled media, isn’t it? Something is VERY fishy in the White House, if you axe me…

A Jazz Guitarist’s support for Maoist Ornaments

Radical Totalitarian Blogger and former Jazz artist, Charles “Icarus” John reveals his true colors yet again. He transformed into a fanatical Obama follower. Any criticism of Barack Hussein Obama sends him into a temper tantrum. He believes that a coalition consisting of The Catholic Church, Tobacco Companies,  Kehanists, Neo-Confederates, Michelle Malkin, James Dobson, The Family and the Vlaams Belang are all out to get him. His paranoia and propaganda knows no bounds, now here’s his latest.

I reported yesterday that the White House had an ornament of Mao Zedong hanging from one it’s Christmas Tree. Other blogs like Hot Air also reported on this disturbing story. The White House spin was that “Community Groups” contributed the ornaments. Still how can no one not notice a Mao ornament? Rising to the occasion to defend his beloved leader, Charles “Icarus” John comes to the regime’s  defense.

The facts: the Obamas sent over 800 ornaments left over from previous administrations to local community groups, and asked them to decorate the ornaments to pay tribute to a favorite local landmark.

Whether the obamanation ok’d the ornaments or not, the point is that the ‘artists’ felt it was perfectly fine to submit a mao ornament, a tranny ornament, and one with the won superimposed on Mt. Rushmore for the National Christmas Tree in the obama White House. And IMHO, the bhusseino welcomed all.

Happy Holidays to all!  I have had constant children here for the past 5 days and am now the recipient of a nice head cold and a house that is a complete and utter mess.  I'm contemplating the wreckage and thinking that a match and a gallon of gasoline would be the easiest solution.  But, I need to scrub/disinfect and neaten up the place in time to start cooking tomorrow!

I just got back from Walmart 2 days before Christmas, and the busiest section was the grocery section (which is why I went).  Even so, it was FAR busier on the weekends before Obama.

Saw the same thing on the coast-- and noticed that people ahead of me were buying necessities, not  goodies or presents.

Went to the local mall yesterday- traffic was about what a good, normal non-holiday ought to be.

Bear in mind, I had one of the original stores in the city's first Mall- the one that burned down in 1983-- but I've been out of retailing since 1985, so I qualify as an expert witness, but outdated...

I rate the traffic I saw as "adequate, but not outstanding..."

Lots of businesses are holding on by going into massive debt, hoping that the government prognostications of an improving economy are true.  I don't see it.  Former DIL's husband is an electrician. Their company thought that they were positioned well because they do commercial work and high end residential, not new construction or tract houses.  Unfortunately, they've gone through weeks with no work, and the owner told former DIL's husband that the company has run through its cash, its owner's cash, and they cannot hold on much longer.

Re: Final thoughts on the failure of Mitch Mc. to do anything ....

While I don't necessarily agree with the text, this image sums it up for me:

A SMALL, BUT TELLING, example of government waste.  One of the most iconic scenes in Raiders of the Lost Ark is the one at the end where the Ark of the Covenant is put in a large crate and filed away in a gargantuan government storehouse filled with thousands of other boxes, never to be seen again. When I was an undergrad, one of my more left-wing professors criticized this scene as right-wing propaganda that unfairly portrays government as wasteful. It turns out that the scene was more accurate than either Steven Spielberg or my professor knew:

SDA gets results!

Our goal is to entertain and engage the imagination of children with our stuffed animals, our store environment, and online. Our intention with the Polar Bear story was to inspire children, through the voices of our animal characters, to make a difference in their own individual ways. We did not intend to politicize the topic of global climate change or offend anyone in any way. The webisodes concluded this week with Santa successfully leaving on his journey to deliver gifts around the world. The webisodes will no longer be available on the site.

I get the sense that, for as important as it is to yell at elected representatives who endorse policies that damage our interests, it's the negative feedback directed towards AGW promoting corporations that may produce the most results per complaint over the long run.

Unlike their counterparts in mass media, most sensible retailers understand that the consumer can, and will, reject a product tainted by political agenda. A few angry letters can alert an executive that the global warming "consensus" ain't what she used to be.

An update from Ed Driscoll, in the comments. "For what it's worth, the three Build-A-Bear videos that Hot Air linked to are all still up on YouTube, where any kid can, and will stumble across them."

Text of President Obama's statement on the Senate passing the health care bill (MAJOR BARF ALERT!)

A Parable of Obamacare

Our President: Bringing America to its Knees, Before the World

Is the Age of Obama the beginning of the end of America, the last best hope of earth?

President Obama's curtsy to the Saudi king and his reverential bow before the Japanese Emperor was one of those "right-wing" criticisms that I thought, at the time, was mostly much ado about very little of substance. I now take that back. It was emblematic of what is taking place now.

While all hands on deck have been focused on the healthcare "debate" and Christmas family matters, President Obama last week quietly signed an amendment to Executive Order 12425 (signed by Reagan in 1983, but with restrictions in place to protect the Constitutional rights of our citizens), effectively eroding American sovereignty by immunizing INTERPOL activities within the U.S.

Steve McIntyre finds something under his tree;

The UK Met Office has released a large tranche of station data, together with code.

Only last summer, the Met Office had turned down my FOI request for station data, saying that the provision of station data to me would threaten the course of UK international relations. Apparently, these excuses have somehow ceased to apply.

Early reviews at Bishop Hill;

Meanwhile, even this extremely limited attempt at openness is not all it seems to be. John G-C has been looking at the code and running it against the data he has. What he has found is that prior to 1855 there was no southern hemisphere data and that when you run the Met Office's newly released code, this shows up as a gap in the graph of the average. But there is no such gap in the actual CRUTEM index. John's conclusion is that what we're looking at is not the actual code used in CRUTEM, but something written especially for public consumption. In light of the scorn that many programmers have been pouring on the quality of the coding standards at CRU, this might suggest that the original code was just too awful to make available for public inspection.

Penetration Even At The Pentagon: Muslim Spies Setting Muslim Policy

The internal threat from Muslim extremists in the military extends to high-level Defense Department aides who have undermined military policy. In fact, one top Muslim adviser pushed out an intelligence analyst who warned of the sudden jihad syndrome that led to the Fort Hood terrorist attack.

An honored guest of the Ramadan dinner at the Pentagon this September was Hesham Islam, who infiltrated the highest echelons of the Ring despite proven ties to U.S. terror front groups and a shady past in his native Egypt.

As senior adviser for international affairs to former deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England, Islam ran interference for the Islamic Society of North America and other radical fronts for the Egypt-based Muslim Brotherhood, the subject of my new book "Muslim Mafia."

The Treasury’s press release bears the conveniently bland headline “TREASURY ISSUES UPDATE ON STATUS OF SUPPORT FOR HOUSING PROGRAMS” — because I guess “Merry F’ing Christmas: Your grandchildren will live in penury so we can prop up a bunch of deadbeats and incompetent bankers” was taken long ago.

Yeah, that headline runs every day now, it seems . . .

Another stunner from the Obama White House.
BHO and his family will skip Christmas services this year.
Evidently, Rev. Jeremiah G-D AmeriKKKa Wright was not holding services in the DC area tonight.

But they did put up a Christmas Tree…

…Complete with Mao Tse-Tung balls.
Canada Free Press reported:

A writer for TIME magazine reports that the president and his family are not attending Christmas services. Gee, what a surprise! Barack Hussein Obama has consistently shown his lack of understanding of the Holy Bible, his disdain for the spiritual meaning of Christmas (no Nativity crèche in the White House), and his propensity to bow to Muslim leaders.

But the fact is that NO TRUE CHRISTIAN can support abortion and the federal funding thereof. Don’t give me the “representative of the majority” nonsense. Here we sit on the precipice of the massive mountain of federal control of the health care system in America.  The vast majority, liberals included, are against this thievery—yet the arrogance of Washington and the Democratic sleaze presses on in total disregard of the American public it should be serving.

The Constitution is in the shredder and has been since the new administration began moving with Blitzkrieg speed to control the sure and certain enslavement of the people through ungodly spending bills and back room deals in which Representatives and Senators have sold what little soul they might have left.

How can a politician who claims to be a Christian—Catholic, Protestant, or otherwise—truly and with clear conscience vote for federal funding of abortion? The answer is they can’t IF they truly are Christians.

BBC engages in cargo cult science

by snork ( 116 Comments › )
Filed under Global Warming Hoax, Media, Science at December 24th, 2009 - 2:30 pm

This is unbelievable. Usually, when some “science” show on TV tries to show some oversimplified experiment that “you can do at home™”, it’s at least some facsimile of what they claim. Some of the details may get muddled up, but gist is basically correct.

Nobel Laureate and all-around smart guy Richard Feynman referred to “almost right” science as cargo cult science. The idea is that some people (I won’t drop any names) treat science like the cargo cultists on the Pacific Islands in WWII, and think that if they can go through the motions of science and technology, that everything will work. Thus, when they saw US military personnel setting up landing fields, and attracting airplanes, they thought all they had to do was set up landing fields, and faux facilities, and the gods would send gifts via the silver birds. Please read the link if you have time; it’s a classic that should be required reading everywhere.

So, not to be outdone by the Islanders, the Beeb puts together a cargo-cult demonstration of the greenhouse effect that would make the Islanders cringe. The video is here (since it’s BBC, and not youtube, I can’t embed the video).

So what’s wrong with this picture? A lot of things. A complete thrashing of all of the experimental issues can be found here. But there’s an elephant in the parlor: this isn’t even remotely like what’s going on in the earth’s atmosphere! Let me explain.

The sun’s surface is approximately 6000 degrees Kelvin. There’s a basic law of physics that says that when an object has a certain temperature, it emits radiation at a certain range of wavelengths according to a series of curves, where the curve depends on the temperature. When you have an object as hot as the sun, very little of the radiation is of the long wavelengths that are absorbed by CO2 or other greenhouse gasses; it’s all very short, and much of it visible (which is why it makes light, and why hot objects glow red).

The greenhouse effect has nothing to do with this short-wavelength radiation coming into the the earth from the sun; it happens after the sun’s rays hit the surface of the earth and warm the surface up. Then the surface of the earth, which is approximately 300 K, re-emits it as the much longer wavelengths that can be absorbed by greenhouse gasses.

Now look at their experiment. What are they using for a radiation source? A 300K surface? No. They’re using an incandescent light bulb, that’s approximately the same temperature as the sun! In other words, they’re shooting radiation at this experimental apparatus that, according to the greenhouse theory, shouldn’t be absorbed by CO2!

These are the geniuses who are teaching “science” to kids. For all you homeschoolers out there, don’t do this at home. You might get a temperature differential, but it won’t be because of the greenhouse effect. It’ll be because of politically correct cargo cult science that leaves so many loose ends dangling, that you get it for other unrelated reasons.

In the words of climatologist Kevin Trenberth (one of the CRUtape letters™ “team”), “this is a travesty”. Yeesh. This is really, really, bad, Boob Beeb.

Alexander Cockburn, to whom you link, is a hard leftist of the worst sort, a dedicated foe of Israel and, if not a solid antisemite himself, host on his site to a number of leftists whose antisemitism matches that of Pat Buchanan, if from a nominally different direction.

It is, therefore, all the more astounding that he would bluntly declare AGW to be the fraud it is.

Electrical Energy, Science, & You

Interesting and easy-to-understand online slideshow about electricity production from conventional sources (coal, nuclear, hydro, and oil) vs. wind-turbines. I knew wind power was silly, but I didn't know just how silly until I watched this show.

Five Decades Of Cooling Ahead

Climate Change: A peer-reviewed study by a respected Canadian physicist blames the interplay of cosmic rays and chlorofluorocarbons for 20th-century warming. The CFCs are now gone, and so is warming — perhaps for the next 50 years.

Much of the nation got a white Christmas this year, some in unprecedented quantities. A record-breaking storm deposited 12 to 30 inches of snow in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. Many places set records for the most snow in a single December day as more than 50% of the U.S. was covered by the white stuff.

Scientists (and here we use the word loosely) at Britain's Climate Research Unit may have tried to "hide the decline" in global temperatures, but it's hard to hide two feet of snow. Their motto seems to be the immortal words of Groucho Marx: "Who are you going to believe, me or your own lying eyes?"
