"It is very possible, but only if Ted Stevens, the Alaskan Senator convicted for corruption, is able to hold on to his slim lead in this election. Which brings us to some very strange scenarios."

“What if Rick Santorum decided to run for president?? he would probably be me favorite”
*********
I like Santorum.
But if he can’t even win the Senate seat in his own state, how can he win as President in the rest of the country?
Would be a bit like Algore in 2000 isn’t it?
All Gore had to do was win his own state and he would have been president.
Can Santorun win PA?
Thanks. Got a link?
She can only appoint herself if a Senator resigns. Stevens may be in a position where the Senate refuses to seat him. In that case there will need to be a special election for that seat.
You said — “When Stevens is expelled, Palin should appoint a hard-line conservative successor.”
She said that was “in dispute” right now, as to whether she could do that and she was waiting for a legal answer on that issue from the Attorney General. She seemed to indicate that Alaska should not be without a representative in Congress and she wanted to appoint someone and then have an election shortly afterwards (I think about 90 days, she said) and then let the elections determine who would have the seat in the long run.
Historically governors who have appointed themselves to an open senate seat have done very poorly in the following election. This has happened something like 15-20 times in our history and all but one of them was defeated either in the next primary or the next general election.
Sarah should stay where she is. She can get more done and she can, if she acts wisely, get herself plenty of national exposure based on the celebrity she has earned in the recent campaign. Talk radio, for one example, would be glad to have her calling in I am sure.
I want Sarah to stay in Alaska for now. It may end up being a refuge option if the Marxist gets to carry out his agenda.
The interview, which is very good, can be found at www.bobandmark.com.
She also says that if she were to run for president it would be a grassroots, out of the box effort akin to her run for governor. She made it clear that she doesn't like the standard bigwig status quo bigwigs. If she were to run it would be a campaign unlike any ever run.
A special election is not a problem.
Remember they elected a convicted felon in order to keep the seat Republican.
It would give her access to a national stage to discuss Reagan quality conservatism.
NEXT we have senator Joe the Plumber.
“You’re full of condensed monkey manure”
*********
Nope.
You are.
McCain’s record in the Senate in the last 4 years, is there for all to see.
He was the Ayatoullah of amnesty (together with Whiskey Ted), the Chif Priest of “reaching across to the other side”, and one of President Buhs’s biggest critics on the Hill.
Those are facts.
I think some of the “stay in alaska” are just trolls looking to stir dissent. (not all but many)
If ANYTHING she said about fighting is relavant, then she fights in the senate. She should not cower from the fight in the 50th state.
Supplement that with a blog, and she's in business for the 21st Century. Though no comments until they are filtered - you KNOW what the Nutroots people will do to jam it up.
I know I am in the minority but if Sarah is serious in running for the Presidency in 2012 she should run for the Senate-either in the special election after Stevens is forced to resign (but not appoint herself for the interim term)or challenge Lisa Murkowski in the primaries for the 2010 Senate seat. She is already Governor of Alaska. If she runs for governor again in 2010 and wins then she will saddled with the job of governor and be too far from the battleground of Iowa and New Hampshire and other lower 48 states to do what she needs to do to build a grass-roots organization and get the ball rolling on raising money for her campaign. Secondly as a Senator she would be able to plug into conservative think tanks and groups who would boost her credibility and also keep in the news by opposing Obama in Washington and then appear on TV and give interviews to the media to rehabiltate her reputation over time. Sarah would then be poised to take a run for the White House, with the full backing of the base. Sarah doesn’t need executive experience; what she needs is more exposure on the national scene. If she plays her cards right as a Senator she’ll get a lot more play than she even would expect.
In my opinion, Governor Palin can effect the make up of Alaska's Senators and Representatives in her office as governor by exposing the good from the bad, workinng against the establishment/old boy network...sort of like the chairperson 'Maverick' of Alaska's Consertvative Party movement.
I say NOOOOO..
Do as Romney did. Start fundraising in Jan ‘09. End your term in ‘10.
Then start running for Prez.
Exactly right. IF that is what she wants to do, stay out of the senate; go to C-PAC, get on the conservative shows; write some things. Reagan did not spring full-blown from the forehead of Barry Goldwater: he spent a decade honing his ideas, writing, speaking, and above all, learning.
hey my friend was telling me yesterday that Palin can appt someone to take Stevens position but only for a short while and then another election must be held...is that true?
