Barack Obama's election was a historic victory for America's aspiration to be a country where anything is possible, and where all men are created equal. His election also was a victory for democracy. Even if many Americans don't like the electoral results, his campaign proved that when the American people are inspired and mobilize, they can seize the reins of government and demand change.

No matter how stupid or suicidal that "change" is for the USA.
“The more Republicans abandoned conservatism, the more voters abandoned Republicans.”.....
In a nutshell!....
I’m sorry but if I hear one more Republican talk about how historic this election was I am gonna puke...
Who cares how historic this election was? The presidency is not a symbolic office!
I am dissapointed in Tom Coburn and all “reach across the aisle” Republicans. Don’t give them an olive branch, throw a grenade...just like they did to Bush.
“...conservatives should be the first to accept the olive branch President-elect Obama has extended to the opposition and help him achieve results in the areas where we agree...” Yes, yes, we’re always the ones who should be big enough to end the partisanship, etc. Lambs to the slaughter...
“when the American people are inspired and mobilize...”
...and commit massive vote fraud and massive campaign funding fraud...
We will all suffer.
Kind of a mixture. Just when you think he’s making sense, he comes out with something strange. In the end, this looks more like someone trying to craft his own image in the new world of November 2008 than someone who is trying to say something useful for the future of conservatism.
Too bad, because he’s not a RINO, I don’t believe. But he does seem to be a bit of an opportunist when he’s given the Forbes podium.
I agree, whenever someone brings up the election and how great it was, I just remain silent.
As the saying goes. “If you don’t have something nice to say don;t say anything at all.”
No. It is an indictment of democracy. It is indisputable proof that the old adage that democracy cannot survive once a majority of people figure out that they can vote largesse from the public treasury is true. This election was the beginning of the end of democracy in this country.
The only way you can say that Obama’s election is in any way “historic” is if your sole criteria is his skin tone.
We elect representatives to enact legislation. That they work together on issues we all agree on is not a bad thing. That Republicans can act better than Democrats is not a bad thing.
He isn’t saying they should go along with everything, just what everyone can see needs to be done.
This is a good starting point for Republicans to regroup.
Here is where we failed. We let Zero claim the mantle of optimism. Nevermind that is was 21 months of bashing Bush.
the sky is falling!
“Not ready to make nice.”
Only 1/5 of my hand is reaching across the aisle; can you guess which 1/5 it is????
What olive branch? One line in a victory dance? There is no olive branch. We are screwed and possibly destined for the ash heap of history.
