I haven’t read the thread yet, but let me repeat what others must have written:
But I’ll still have to apologize for Maya Angelou when I’m abroad or at home.

The French are very racist towards Turks, Moroccans, and Algerians. They stick them in housing projects outside the cities.
I go to Europe a lot. I’ve never apologized to anyone for being an American. What’s there to apologize for?

Yeah, ok...and France and Britain have had several black Prime Ministers and Presidents already. Hey China Russia and India are great...they’ve had too numerous to count Africans running their country.
Only one other nation has done anything like this and that’s Peru of all places which elected a Japanese president and as I recall, that ended poorly.
Americans do not have to apologize for our process. Maya has to apologize for her pre-occupations and obsessions.

Off topic, but Tony Curtis's plastique is worse than even Kenny Rogers.

Maya would be working as cleaning lady if not for her race. Her race is the only reason she has been given a stage to speak IN THE GREATEST NATION ON EARTH.
She is a marginally talented poet. My chocolate lab can bark better poetry than she can write.

Here's something to chew on,”Doctor” Angelu...perhaps you should consider taking on citizenship in a really *progressive* and forward thinking country....like Chad,Niger,Central African Republic or Zimbabwe (where you can pay $10,000,000,000 for a loaf of bread) and renounce your US citizenship (assuming *your* birth records are in order). You can even swap places with a citizen of one of those countries who'd be so grateful and proud to be here and would work his/her a$$ off while here...unlike all too many of *your* “constituents”.

Is this the same France that had country-wide firebombings and riots for weeks, due to “disaffected minorities”, as the press suggested. As someone else mentioned, name one European country that has a minority as President/PM, etc. These snot-nosed Euro-trash liberals’ countries are collapsing around them and they’re too ignorant to see it. Instead they mock the US in order to feel better about themselves. Remove the plank from your own eyes, Europeans! Who gives a rat’s a$$ what you think anyhow? You’re demise is a foregone conclusion!

What "we've just achieved!" What has winning an election for one with no real American roots--his father was just passing through, and his mother caused his formative years to be spent in Indonesia--achieved for America?
This woman has a following, I know. But am I being unfair to sugget that it is not based upon clear thinking?

Which is worse, the “poetry” spewed by Jimmy Carter or the “poetry” from Maya Angelou?
