With barely time to savour his triumph, Barack Obama has been confronted with various international crises to test his mettle.
The U.S. President-elect faces threats from Russia, Israel and Afghanistan as it emerged his election team's computers were hacked by a 'foreign entity' during the election.
Officials at the FBI and the White House believe the hackers sought to gather information on the evolution of both his and Senator John McCain's policy positions with the idea of using that information in negotiations with the next administration.
Obama technical experts later speculated the hackers were Russian or Chinese, and security ended the intrusion, Newsweek reported.
Straight to work: President-elect Obama faces a looming international crisis The first of the challenges thrown at the President-elect, who received his first national security intelligence briefing yesterday, came from the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
He threatened to base warheads along the Polish border if Obama goes ahead with a Bush administration plan to create a missile shield in Eastern Europe.
Then Israel warned Obama last night that his claim that he was ready to open talks with Iran could be seen in the Middle East as a sign of weakness.
Furthermore, Afghanistan's president Hamid Karzai demanded that Obama 'put an end to civilian casualties' by changing U.S. military tactics to avoid airstrikes in the war on the Taliban.

And..."NO" (nameless one) ran on bringing change...and who does NO go out and start hiring??? Old cronys from the cliintoon era! I understand there may even be a job (and a new blue dress) for our favorite former intern!!
"Change" indeed! Isn't this what Lenin ran on?? Change it will be.
You know, there have been 43 other presidents who didn’t feel the need to relate every moment of their ‘job’ as if it were some revelation on Oprah.
I for one wish this guy would STFU and adopt the mantle of a statesman.
That monster house and no gym...gimme a break...
So do investors.
And on the domestic front, there’s the Obama Stock Market Crash. Nice going, Democrats.
He reminds me of Princess Di for some reason.
SNORT :)
... a.k.a., "Hope and Change."
to be fair, he’s been living in Washington since they bought that house.
I *knew* someone would find a way to bring the newly-elected VP into this.
"Stand up, Chuck!"
Kyrie Eleison!
“adopt the mantle of a statesman.”
I don’t see how he will effectively lead this country. I would be willing to bet there will be some world leaders that will be hesitant to share any information with him or the U.S. because of his past and present connections to terrorist. Raila Odinga comes to mind. I don’t see how this is going to happen. Foreign intel agencies won’t want to take a chance to compromise any of their systems..
This whole thing is simply unbelievable.
Do you suppose there’s any possibility the mods would allow us to start a daily “Prayers for President Obama to be Eaten by Wild Jackals” thread...? ;)
Okay...Wonder if there’s a gym in the Senate chambers...Will do a little searching...
I’m serious. I don’t see how they will be willing to share anything with an Obama administration. Where and the hell is Bush on all of this. Obama has some explaining to do.
Question:
Obama has said during war-time “his job as president would include demanding that the American people recognize an obligation for military service” and other statements which imply he intends to re-institute the draft,
Can this be done by executive order or does it have to go through congress?
That photo of his guards looks like Blackwater in Iraq.
Problems at home, problems overseas, luckily we have gotten ourselves the most experienced, capable, mature leader that we could have possibly elected..............right?
“it emerged his election team’s computers were hacked by a ‘foreign entity’ during the election.”
So was my husband’s business. It happens all the time. Most of the surprise hackings come from “overseas”.
