Democrats scale back expectations
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | November 6, 2008 | Zachary Coile

During their campaigns for the White House and Congress, Democrats played up their ambitious plans to cool a warming planet, revive the economy and fix a broken health care system.

But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in her first news conference since the party's big election victory, warned Wednesday that Democrats might have to scale back the size of their proposals as tax revenues slow and federal budget deficits soar because of a sluggish economy.

"I think it's important for the American people to know that many of our options have been diminished because of the downturn in the economy," Pelosi said. "We have a lot less money to draw upon."

It would not be the first time that campaign pledges have succumbed to cold, hard fiscal reality. But the current budget picture is especially gloomy: The Treasury Department reported that it will have to borrow $550 billon this quarter to pay for the rescue of U.S. financial firms. Wall Street bond traders now predict the United States will have to borrow $1.4 trillion this fiscal year and that the budget deficit could reach $1 trillion.

That was pretty quick, eh?

I'm starting to get a sense that my initial reaction to Tuesday's election results was all wrong -- and that 2009-2010 are going to be two of the most comical, entertaining years of my lifetime in terms of national politics.

Sort of like 1993-94 all over again.

There's something stirring inside me, folks . . . I'm feeling a sense of freedom and liberation that I haven't felt in years.

The most glaring problem is going to be foreign crises. 0bama is going to sell us and Israel out.

Actually, I think it's going to be the other way around.

The 0bama administration is going to disappoint a lot of people on the Left when it comes to foreign policy.

In fact, having a leftist named Barry Barack Hussein Obama in the White House is going to give this country the political cover to do a lot of things that nobody ever would have imagined if the U.S. president were some middle-aged white guy.

The Who had it right: "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

Ok, that's not strictly true, but my evil alter ego on DU is going to be singing that tune as often as possible over in DUmmieland.

Yep. We have no responsibilities now and can take the back seat driver position and see how" lost" Obama and company can get.

Just like teenagers we can be "all mouth" now.

In addition to that, I don't feel any moral imperative to "play by the rules" anymore. I'll take the following sentiments to heart:

I Do Not Choose to Be a Common Man

It is my right to be uncommon -- if I can.

I seek opportunity -- not security. I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me.

I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed.

I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia.

I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat.

It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think and act for myself, enjoy the benefit of my creations and to face the world boldly and say, “This I have done.”

The Dems have less money to operate with???!!! Baloney. Let’s see, Buffet, Soros, and Gates have billions, and there are tons of other lib billionaires like Oprah and the New York and Hollyweird crew. Dear rich libs, unload your unearned (if you’re white...even if you’re not) riches and give them to the deserving downtrodden who live in, as we’ve been told by Obama’s mentors, the worst country in the world. Give...give until you have no more. That would be the fair thing to do.

In short according to Obama, America is a great country...that’s why I want to fundamentally change it.

Lots of comments at the end of the article. A lot of “I told you so.” from the few Conservatives. One liberal dimwit called Pelosi a “closet Republican”.

Reality bites.

It's the usual progression - from "this is what a beautiful world I imagine it will be" to "this is what a beautiful world it would have been except for somebody else," only this time it took all of 24 hours. And here I was expecting fuzzy bunnies and kittens and puppies for everyone to start raining from the sky...

So, yes, the Obots got sold a bill of goods. That realization may be the funniest thing to come out of the election.

"Every election is a sort of advance auction sale of stolen goods." H. L. Mencken

Yes, but, well — we just have to thing of “free gas” and “free mortgage payments” in a different way.

That One will take away her car, it solves the need for gas. And kick her out of here home. No need for a mortgage when your on the streets turning tricks.

Now that's different!!!
