During their campaigns for the White House and Congress, Democrats played up their ambitious plans to cool a warming planet, revive the economy and fix a broken health care system.
But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in her first news conference since the party's big election victory, warned Wednesday that Democrats might have to scale back the size of their proposals as tax revenues slow and federal budget deficits soar because of a sluggish economy.
"I think it's important for the American people to know that many of our options have been diminished because of the downturn in the economy," Pelosi said. "We have a lot less money to draw upon."
It would not be the first time that campaign pledges have succumbed to cold, hard fiscal reality. But the current budget picture is especially gloomy: The Treasury Department reported that it will have to borrow $550 billon this quarter to pay for the rescue of U.S. financial firms. Wall Street bond traders now predict the United States will have to borrow $1.4 trillion this fiscal year and that the budget deficit could reach $1 trillion.

Is Obama gonna still give free gas and free mortgage payments to that woman???
“Barack, ah want mah MONEY!! You said ah-ma git mah MONEY!! Where da money at?”
That lady who was interviewed will be really mad. No help with her car, her gas her ......
First the bait, then the switch.
As the lady said in Hoosiers.. “ I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE ANOTHER VOTE!!!!”
They can’t implement 90% of the stuff they’ve promised. Even with the Republicans way down in seats, they don’t have the votes for it. They’ll try and threaten and intimidate members of the Senate, but if they go along, they’ll lose their seats in the next election. You’re not going to get a Democrat from WV to vote for the ‘Freedom of Choice Act’, card check, or the fairness doctrine.
I’m sure they’ll come up with huge amounts of onerous legislation that they can agree on, but the big stuff ain’t making it through. If we give them enough rope there, they may hang themselves as well.
“Is Obama gonna still give free gas and free mortgage payments to that woman???”
Yes, but, well — we just have to thing of “free gas” and “free mortgage payments” in a different way.
Oh, happy days are here again! . . . Regards . . . Penny
And I expect all those 0bama supporters to sign up and die for their messiah! Matt Damon, this means you!!
“... this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on earth. ... “
The last, best hope for the world died on 11/4/08. RIP.
Who’s going to pay my mortgage and gas bill?
“First the bait, then the switch.”
Yeah — Barack “Sears” Obama
“WHAT!!! No free tuition, room, and board? It must be the Conservatives fault!”
This is softening for the next salvo. Remember the tax increase on the wealthy? Well, with the economy so bad, and so much free stuff to give away... wealthy will be anyone making over $42.5k.
This is why I don’t care and don’t want to hear anything from these people. I want them to suffer and suffer dearly. The only time they will hear me is if God forbid a terrorist attack happens because I want them to know it is squarely their Marxist’s fault. They were even warned by his VP but didn’t give a damn.
Ahhh, still Bush’s fault! I am predicting that they will envoke his name for the next 4 years in an attempt to deflect their failures. I also predict that it will work. Hence I still have my tagline.....
But they can still attempt to cram through things that don’t cost a lot of money like gun bans, fairness doctrine, emergency tax increases, increasing the gas tax. energy consumption taxes, cutting military budgets.
They have a clear plan for changing America. And it does not involve following the Constitution.
We worked as hard as we could to keep our promises...
“needs to be a bumper sticker!!!!”
I think I’ll leave my “WE”RE SCREWED, 08” sticker on for a while longer!
