One of the aides tells CNN that campaign manager Rick Davis fired Scheunemann after determining that he had been in direct contact with journalists spreading "disinformation" about campaign aides, including Nicolle Wallace and other officials.
"He was positioning himself with Palin at the expense of John McCain's campaign message," said one of the aides.

Amazing that the Mc staff is trashing his one excellent decision. Apparently she wanted to take off the marshmellow gloves. How dare her!
Pray for W, Saracuda and Our Troops
Actually his message was “I’m not as far left as Obama”.
You got that right! They should be tarred, feathered, and run out of the Party. It's bad enough they tried to pull a Dole/Kemp in the face of a socialist takeover, but now they're trashing the freshest, brightest face to surface in a long time. They're despicable.
Speaking of, did anyone see Carl Cameron’s hit job on Palin on BO (the first one) tonight? Reporting all the campaign rumors of Palin being a stupid, tempertantrum throwing diva. The dems are still trying to trash her.
McCain even admitted in his autobiography that he really didn't have any ideology, he wanted to President because it was his ambition.
“Notice that this Palin crucifixion is coming directly from the McCain people”
It’s disgusting. Maybe he’s hoping for a lunch date with Olbermann.
Ouch!
That was very well said...and with class, as well.
Thank you for the lesson.
I would not blame SP if she told them all to F-off and stayed out of the next election altogether. She got her first taste of Washington politics, and it tastes like s^*t.
I hope this won’t happen and she comes back. They need her more than she needs them.
Sorry, I can’t stand Jay Severin since he became a Kerry cheerleader in the 2004 election...
He’s dead to me now.
..........but very entertaining.
“I dont know how you can stand to give CNN ratings after theyve just pulled a Deliverance on this country.”
With the sound of dueling banjos in the background, wolf blitzer (he’s the only cnn person I can name off the top of my head right now) playing the mountain man, and those of us who got duped by the mclame campaign are poor ol’ Bobby:
Mountain Man: I bet you can squeal like a pig. Weeeeeeee!
Bobby: Weee!
Mountain Man: Weeeeeeee!
Bobby: Weee!
McCain, like Dole, never had a chance.
The race was winnable, but both men were viewed as over the hill and ready for the nursing home. Its just that simple.
The presidency is simply a popularity contest for the undecideds. They have no clue regarding policy.
When McCain won Florida in the primaries, we were toast. It was over before we started.
The McCain aids are out in full force attacking Palin. A number of unflattering things said about her: temper tantrums, limited knowledge or no knwledge about mundane facts, etc. Fox News, BORE all this evening.
“BTW, I think it’s over nationally for Gov. Palin - she’s been Quayled.”
Oh man. I hope not.
Dan Quayle is no longer allowed out in public, it seems. As for Atwater, he coined the term “big tent”, didn’t he?
no, we need her far more than she needs them
same here, we all saw with our own eyes who was worth spit in this campaign and it was Mark Salter and Rick Davis who told McCain it was beneath him to really sock it to Obama... I’ll take Sarah thank you... McCain can go back to the senate with Joe and Lindsey and maybe we can run a Conservative against him in 2010.
Did Condi totally tick you off, as she did me, this morning?
