Vanity: Why McCain Lost...Don't Blame Sarah
vanity

Posted on 11/05/2008 4:45:04 PM PST by DocT111

I've been thinking since the election results came in and I truly believe that Sarah Palin is not the reason McCain lost.

I wasn't going to even vote for McCain this year until he picked Sarah Palin.

McCain lost the election for several reasons:

1) Was never a true conservative. Campaign finance reform and immigration was nuts.

2) Did not let Sarah be Sarah. After RNC convention, Sarah should have been on the couch at Fox and Friends, interviewed by Hannity and Greta before Charlie and Katie.

3) Withdrawing from Michigan.

4) Voting for the bailout bill.

5) No consistent message...the message changed from day to day until the final days of the campaign with Joe the Plumber.

6) Should have tied the economy into foreign policy.

There are probably more reasons, but these are the big ones for me.

90% voting for 30% approval is no way to win an election.

His one big chance to reflect he was a true “reformer” was to vote against the massive Wall St bailout.

He had terrible advisors and will now be remembered as the candidate who lost to Obama.

John McCain was a replay of Bob Dole without his electrifying stage presence, sterling conservative ideological history and snappy bon mots.

Gov. Palin was a good pick for motivating the base...however at the time I was concerned (but still liked the pick) with the fear that this took the most powerful weapon away from John McCain...attacking Obama’s inexperience. (Yes, I think Palin has more relevant experience then Obama but on paper, at glance, it seems as weak as Obama’s experience.)

McCain clearly did not run the best campaign, he should have taken a stand against the bailout, and use his pro-life views more. Second, McCain was done in by his own deeds, McCain-Feingold and his lame attempts at bipartisanship (shamnesty)in the hope it would make the big tent even bigger.

However, that being said, I don’t think it was possible for any Republican to have won the Presidency this year. Largely due to the media, which felt investigating Joe the Plumber’s background and associations was more relevant than looking at Obama’s. Also, the media allowed Obama and the Dems to put the blame on the financial crisis on the GOP, without questioning the Dems role.

Let there be no doubt, Obama is the Ron Burgundy of American politics, a creature created by and for the media outlets. Sadly, the sheeple of this country are too stupid to realize it.

That being said, we have to hope for the best, and encourage active dissent from our limited Congressional representation.

I was listening to some folks at work today and it was enlightening. These people claim to not follow politics and don’t consider themselves pubs or dems. It was real simple for these “independents”. I’ll paraphrase.

“... We hear about all these problems in Iraq, the world doesn’t like us and this huge financial mess - maybe a fresh face can clean this mess up”.

These types don’t keep track of who is running Congress. An R was in the WH and bad stuff happens - go with a dem.
To me this is nuts. The media people often echo this and I never really believed until I heard it with my own ears - and in a red state no less.

Folks - politics is all about perceptions as understood by those in the middle who don’t follow politics seriously. That 20% or so in the middle. We lost that battle big-time.

Bush & the economy was the reason McCain lost. Before the 700 Billion bailout, McCain actually was leading in the polls for a couple of days.

Apologizing that you are a republican and emphasizing that you actually voted against your own party line on several occasions sends a bad messege to non-republicans that maybe there's a reason not to vote republican for either President or congress. It also takes away any excitement for republicans to go out and support you.

For an independent, moderate or a democrat to vote for a RHINO when they can vote for the real thing is like going to the Olive Garden during a vacation in Rome.

I’m beginning to learn to take responsibility for my choices and moods. I’m beginning to grow up.

That being said, we must begin to take responsibility for this loss. Blaming the media with finality from the bottom of our hearts means we are helpless going forward.

We have to look at ourselves and what we can do:

1) NOT nominating a RINO
2) circumnavigating the media, to make conservatives pick someone who presents themselves well, can articulate a message, and defend conservatism
3) ... (more)

For the record, I was going to vote 3rd party, until Sarah.

Total terrible campaign from start to finish. I remember some Missouri ‘pubs that a few friends of mine and I wanted to help. Fools did not listen, and lost.

We need new direction, not some Mamby Pamby Rhino either.

They must use technology, speak to the best of our selves.
Wow, I even had an Obama hanger put on my door. Look, I live on a semi rural road that is very hard to walk. I do not even get trick or treaters. I knew that the DNC, etc. where harnassing all the tools. Time to move on and up. No more Bush, Dole, Mc Cain crappola. Give me another Reagen. Oh, and my Americanized Name is Ragen. Also from Chicago and have lived i California, Japan, Saipan, and Tinian. While Obama was organizing accorns..me, i was training US Marines and other staff/officers. Bit different resume as I have worked real jobs for 35 years and earned my bachelors too.

How in the world do "we ... take responsibility for this loss" when nobody here made NH an open primary which allowed the rino walk in with ease in the first place?
