Fairness Doctrine Petition
iPetitions ^ | 11/5/08 | Joe27

Posted on 11/05/2008 1:50:12 PM PST by Joe27

President-elect Obama,

The campaign is over. It is now time to focus on where our nation will go from here. We disagree on many things, but if we are to take you at your word, we agree in the fundamental importance of encouraging open and honest debate in a Democratic society. There are those in Congress, who do not seem to feel this way. We believe this to be the case due to the recent calls for reinstating the so-called 'Fairness Doctrine'. The Fairness Doctrine, is far from fair, it lies a great distance from liberty. It will be used to shut out the voice of the opposition. Those are tactics of Chavez, not a self-styled post-partisan leader. We recall the words of your election victory speech: I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. We are now waiting and watching. President-elect Obama, do not reinstate the Fairness Doctrine. You were not our candidate, but you are our president. Represent us all, not the clamoring partisans in Washington.

Citizens of the United States

This is a public petition for Obama. Of course, it means nothing in and of itself, but it can serve as tool for raising the discussion. We need to do what we can to stop the Fairness Doctrine. Please sign and spread!

Bump. We need to get people from the top to the bottom of the movement, strategizing and organizing about this.

At one point, BO said he would never impose the Fairness Doctrine. He wouldn’t lie, would he?

Well, the top of my list of things I don’t wanna see in an Obama Admin are SCOTUS appts. (Of course we’ll be stuck with a boatload of lesser court appts.)

This is #2.

We are going to have censorship so powerful that this country will resemble North Korea very soon. The only way we will be able to fight the “Fairness Doctrine” is with a revolution. We fought a revolution before and we might need to fight another one.

Could as well try to convince a bear to stop crapping in the woods! Restriction of free speech is what BHO is all about, in the flesh.

If the FCC commissioners approve the FD, then he's a flat out liar. And no doubt he'd probably sign a FD bill if the Pelosi/Reid bunch passes it, but since the 'Rats didn't get their magic 60 in the Senate, that's unlikely.

We'll probably have Rush, etc. for the next 2 years at least.

At least you’re willing to stand and fight. Too many losses come at the hands of the democrats because so called conservatives have simply given up.

Looks like the poor bastards have us surrounded.

Yeah right. Considering your opponent’s wishes is something that McCain did, not Obama.

Oh my gosh, you sure didn’t get that from me. Let’s fight. If we lose our free speech, we’ve lost everything.

Free speech will not last long under the government we are heading for in Jan.

There will be no more talk radio.
Web sites like FR will be legislated out of existence quickly.

Free Republic will have to change to survive. It’s fatal weakness is that it is a service powered by servers in a single physical location that can be shut down at will by newly enacted laws.

Satellite radio will offer no refuge for talk radio as the FCC will extend any censorship rules to cover them.

The only haven for free commentary will be a complex form of P2P that has encrypted controls and many many different ways to pass data. There would be no way to shut it down short of shutting the net down. Audio can be distributed as highly compressed aac+ data that even a dialup can handle. Text is incredibly compressible so huge amounts of text can be quickly passed by P2P.

It’s a shame we will have to resort to such measures to merely speak freely and distribute information....but it is coming people.

If the FD had been in place this election Obama would not have been voted in. The press oooozed stories for him.

I’m all for a ‘Fairness Doctrine’, so long as it is applied to ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC and PBS.

Did I miss any of the democrat controlled media?

Also, I DEMAND an immediately application of affirmative action to the NHL, NFL, MLB, and NBA!

Neither Rush nor Shawn Hannity are going to go quietly into the night. However they decide to fight we will need to support them in any way that we can. I suspect that is going to be at the top of Pelosi’s agenda when she calls the lame duck session.
