When are we called to be prophets and blurt out the unvarnished truth no matter who it might alienate, and when should we avoid alienating looking for a future conversion?
Hey now, that ain't a bad idea. Maybe everyone should just type up a letter to the White House, C/O Commissar Obama. Enclosed a short letter, and ask him to send us the address in D.C. where we are too start sending our mortgage bills, car payments, electric bills, gas card bill, etc. Remind him he was going to help us, so this is his chance to prove it.
Turn your back and walk away from them.”
I guarantee they will be sniviling in a matter of months when the tax increases and other expenses under NObama start to hurt their life styles.
I can think of 4 short, Anglo-Saxon words ... acronym is FOAD.
Say: “I’m glad you’re happy with the election outcome. I know you understand that I don’t support Obama’s agenda, but we don’t have to get into that right now. I wish him success in making America prosperous, just and secure. And I’m glad that his election will forever put an end to complaints by some people that America is a fundamentally racist country.”
Smile a lot. Then change the subject.
Nothing in that statement is false — I assume we are not going to be like the rabid Bush haters who hoped for America’s military and economic failure just so Bush would look bad.
I know that Obama’s agenda will not lead to a secure and prosperous America. But that shouldn’t stop us from sincerely hoping that it will.
And if, as most of us expect, his policies do lead to disaster, that will become self-evident enough without us actively rooting for it and finding satisfaction in the harm our country suffers. Your relatives will be more likely to accept the reality of his policy failures if they don’t feel they have to save face as a result of your telling them what idiots they were to vote for him in the first place.
I like your approach. The cruelty of fallen great expectations is going to be unbearable for some of these dim bulbs.
I have a picture of Hitler in my mind as I say this and I mentally dress any female interrogator in a burka. That makes it easier to smile and that makes them p.o.'d because they want me to be upset/angry/depressed. Strangely, I'm not because...I'm sure we'll all survive; the world has survived worse.
Show them the photo (and video at Youtube) of the Obama supporters celebrating in DC with the Soviet Flag.
I’m sure that will make for a most memorable holiday!
I say, “Well I guess Ayers, Rev Wright, Farrakhan, and some rappers will get to enjoy visiting the White House.”
Don’t invite them over and don’t accept invitations. They are dead to you. Until, that is, they seek you out to apologize and admit that you were right.
Psalm 141:9-10
9 Keep me from the snares they have laid for me,
And from the traps of the workers of iniquity.
10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets,
While I escape safely.
IE, I pray that you bastards get caught up in the socialist slavery you have voted on me, and I walk around it scott-free.
You blurt out the unvarnished truth when you feel there is no chance of conversion or the only hope for conversion is the nuclear option. Otherwise you speak the truth but in love. You never stop speaking the truth, however
You are, unfortunately, 100% correct. I am upbeat today at the office...
Some of our friends have liberal friends/relatives with whom we will be forced to interact, usually at get-togethers or parties. My preferred method of dealing with this kind of situation is to smile, remember something I must do immediately, excuse myself and walk away.
Ask them to preserve two things for us in the minority. The right and ability to speak freely and engage them in the battle of ideas. Ask them to oppose the fairness doctrine or any other type of legislation that limits free expression of political ideas. (This should also include hate crimes or thought crimes legislation.)
Ask them why Congress would need to impose any of this when they just trounced us in an election. If our ideas are so radical, why do they fear them when they just won. Freedom of speech is going to be the most important item in the next few years.
Second, ask them to preserve an honest and fair election system that can allow those in power to be thrown out of office. This will be tougher of the two to do. We as Republicans and Conservatives were stewards over a system that allowed ourselves to be thrown out of office. Will their party speak out against ACORN, potentially rigged voter machines, inner-city rigged voter roles (Philly and Chicago) dead voters etc.
I'm afraid they have targeted Secretary of State offices as the next office to win. (Politico had an article on this before the election.)
If I can have those two things, we can roll back socialism, higher taxes, and other things. Reagan did it here. Thatcher did it in England.
If we can't communicate freely and vote honestly we will never have that opportunity again. Remind them especially if they have every voted for a Republican that you always want to preserve that right to throw the bums out. Tell them that it felt good didn't it! We just want the same opportunity to do the same.
ROFL - Don’t light a match.
Tell them that you are looking forward to the smooth and orderly transition of power, which is the shining jewel of our form of government.
It’s meaningless, but will make you sound good.
