Exit polls: 78% of Jews voted for Obama

Exit polls from MSNBC, CNN and Fox have shown that US president-elect Barack Obama received 78 percent of the Jewish vote in Tuesday's presidential election, whilst his rival, Republican John McCain, received 21%.

In 2004, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry won 74% of the Jewish vote, and in 2000, Al Gore received 79%.

The MSNBC data found the numbers amongst Christians in Tuesday's election were far closer, with 45 percent of Protestants and other Christians and 54% of Catholics voting for Obama. Together, they made up 81%of the poll sample.

These are derived from the national exit poll surveys, which queries religion in many states. I believe the total sample nationally is around 10,000-12,000.

MSNBC has searchable results, CNN didn’t list the religion question on their site.

If you check the state by state data, you’ll note many, California for example, don’t ask the religion question.

In most (maybe all) you’ll find the Jewish vote reported Obama - McCain -. In the past, I couldn’t find an explanation on the MSNBC site, but in the past that means the results are statisticly insignificant due to low, unbalanced sampling, thus not reported. Even in states like New York, New Jersey and Florida, they report no Jewish numbers.

If I’m correct the poll represents 10-12,000 responses you’re looking at a unscientific national sample of 200-250 Jewish voters at best. Were it properly balanced, the margin of error would be enormous.

Essentially you’re looking at a collection of poll answers that are geographically unbalanced, statistically insignificant in almost every case, but when added together provides a large enough sample to at least report a national result. A sample that likely comes from large, urban precincts, not from a representative sample of Jewish voters. Which the poll admits by not providing results.

Garbage in, garbage out.

That said, I’m sure the Jewish vote was well over 60%, that would be consistent with polling of the Jewish population, and no credible case was made that Obama was a danger to anyone. NJDC will use these numbers, I doubt the RJC did a poll, it's not feasable. There’s just no way you can exit poll Jewish voters, there aren’t enough of them.

The ones who voted for him care more about Socialism than Torah. He is their new Golden Calf, who they have raised up before them in worship. They do not care about Israel.

Please, Obama isn't going to round up Jews and put them in camps.

Hey people...this is *exit poll* data...I am sure the actual numbers are not that high.

That being said, I am sure that it was still too high. But keep in mind, it is not fair to lump all Jews into this number. The Obama "jews" are most likely atheist or Reform Jews, who vote just like liberal Catholics and Liberal Lutherans ELCA and Presbyterians USA and United Church of Christ etc...

Orthodox Jews, like most of us Jews who are Freepers, voted McCain....

I am just really shocked that the Jewish people voted this way!

Why, they're a largely urban population and vote very much like their neighbors. I posted a link to the exit polls in link 102. Or check CNN's database. Look at the urban Congressional districts. For example, in Illinois look at districts 1-10, Chicago and close in suburbs. With the exception of 10, which is a bit outlying, has a large Jewish population, and elects a Republican, Democrats got between 70% and 85%. New York, 1 to 18, 58% to 97%. Not much different

Since there are Jewish populations in those areas, I should probably have added Wisconsin 1, 2, , the Madison to Milwaukee corridor, with rural areas and one of the lowest Jewish populations in the country, but 2 Jewish Senators, 64%, 69%. Minnesota, hardly any Jews, Ramsey and Hennepin County, 64% and 65%.

Miss Bella, dear friend, I believe 1000% in my heart of hearts that the Almighty One will see to it that Jerusalem is perserved and your children will indeed see that wonderful place. He worked miracles for Israel and He ain't done doing them. Many may attempt to come against Jerusalem, but remember His Word in the Jewish Bible, "I am very jealous for Jerusalem" and those that try to lift it will find it a burdensome stone that will break them. He will fight against those that come against Jerusalem. I will stake my Christian faith on those words. He does His Best Work with a righteous remnant, recall the story of Gideon, the odds David faced against Goliath, of Esther and Mordechai against Haman, the Macabees against Antiochus. Or for me as a Christian, the early Church composed of Jews and Gentiles against the might of armed pagan Rome. He will remember and honor you and the rest of the 22%, and believing Christians of all denominations love and cherish you and the 22%.

It's not if you know Jews...I've lost some relatives over this election...and I don't even care. I was telling someone today that we can now understand how brother fought against brother in the civil war.

Jews never learn. They want everyone to love them..the problem is, most everyone wants to kill them. And that will never change.

I have no inside knowledge, but I believe Muslims will try to turn the issue into a political tussle where they can use their leverage to isolate Israel, especially now that Obama is the president elect. Of course, the military option will always be there and will be used whenever Muslims feel it appropriate. But when Obama become president, the main Muslim effort will be a political blitz.
My guess the first goal will be pressure to grant the PLO in Gaza full legal and diplomatic recognition. That way, Israel would loose the capacity to impose a blockade. Then, pressure will be mounted to force Israel off the Golan. If the information I have is accurate, the current Israeli government is moving in this direction, though for reasons I cannot fathom as only a fool would surrender Golan.
Thirdly, some sort of pressure to allow the PLO an office in Jerusalem. Of course, this would not be called a “capitol”, but this status will morph into a “capitol” if enough time is allowed to pass.
Of course, the big kahuna is the demand for a unitary state; that is, a country called “Israel” but one that is not Jewish. The demand will be presented in the most benign terms and couched in language that is certain to appeal to the sentimental and feeble minded. Those who pride themselves as being people of good will be most willing to accept this nonsense. When will the latter happen, I don't know, but if Obama wins reelection, count on it before he leaves office.
Should these events come to pass, the Evangelical Christian community and that remnant of American Jewry who hasn't been seduced by the promises of “people of good will” are going to find opposition all but impossible. Sad, very sad.

God didn’t choose the Jews because they’re faithful, but precisely because they are not. God shows them and us that He loves us in spite of ourselves and will always keep His word.

It’s not the first time the Jewish people have rejected God’s authority and asked for a King. No one should be surprised.

As far as my support for the Jewish nation and it’s good people, both there and abroad, God loves them and so do I. I’m not about to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

“Deserving” has nothing to do with it. Thankfully God does not only love the deserving, or none of us would have His love.
