The GOP also increased its majority in the state House where the party gained control four years ago.

The 48-member Senate has been evenly divided with 24 Republicans and 24 Democrats the past two years.

Republicans in the Senate won two seats that were held by Democrats although Republican Jim Reynolds was trailing in his race against Democrat David Boren - who is not related to the University of Oklahoma president.

If Reynolds wins - the GOP will hold a 26-22 majority and it will be 25-23 Republican if Reynolds loses.

In the key races Republican Jim Halligan won the seat held by term-limited Democrat Mike Morgan and Democrat Nancy Riley was defeated for re-election by Republican Dan Newberry.

How about “Yes, Coburn would be a great Senate Minority Leader”
Better?
By the way, anyone notice the sun still rose this morning. Time to get our party back in order

Got rid of Nancy Riley. Good riddance to bad rubbish! I had to deal with her one time and that was enough for me. She didn't like anything about me and I didn't like anything about her.

Oklahoma Ping!

We have set the stage to take back the Governor’s Mansion in 2010!

Against Drew Edmondson, that's going to be very difficult. What names out there will be able to compete?

learn something new every day. I thought his name was Dan Boren and that he was David Boren's son. Or are they talking about someone else completely?

David Boren's son Dan is the US Representative for Eastern Oklahoma. This Dan Boren (totally unrelated) was most likely a play by the democrats for some sort of name recognition that almost came to fruition.

This state is going to be deep red for a long time. I still think we lost the gov because of a third party candidate that took votes away from Largent.

A bright spot in an otherwise glum result yesterday.

And I’m glad I’m an Okie....

I suppose the “bright side” is that D.C. DUmocrats will get over zealous in pushing their agenda and will seal the fate of any local DUmocrat for years.

"I hate seeing conservative states called “red” - another sly little annoyance foisted on us by the MSM."

Damn right. I don't use that bull$hit post-2000 media newsspeak colors. Blue is Republican. Red is Commie Rodent.

The majority of voters are registered Democrats but are actually conservative.

I wouldn't call them "conservative." Don't forget, Tulsa and Oklahoma counties (our largest metropolitan areas) went for Obama, even though the rest of the state went Republican.

OK democrats aren't so much conservative as they are alarmed by the rising socialism of their party.

I’m glad we made some progress here in Oklahoma, but I admit to being a bit saddened by my vote for Tom Cole. I doubt I will ever support him again. His support for the bailout was too much for me to stomach.

If Wisconsin passes universal health care, then OK is one of the states I’m seriously looking into (Sioux Falls, SD being the other). I have a degree in both health information and in transportation logistics, so I could move anywhere and find work. OK sounds very good right about now.

I highly recommend Oklahoma. A beautiful state and the kindest folks in the world. I felt like I came home when I moved here over 10 years ago.
