It is now time for Atlas to Shrug...

As it appears that Obama has won this election, following Fox News calling both Ohio and PA for him, I think it is now time for the businessmen and women who run this country to make it quite clear what the consequences are to those people who sold out their freedom for empty promises.

Small business owners, your taxes are now going to be raised. You now will face the difficult choice of either cutting your costs by laying people off, or by passing the increased costs of taxation on to your customers. This time I want you to take the time to tell that laid off employee exactly why he has lost his job. Tell him that the Obama tax increase has forced you to take his salary and give it to "the middle class". If he protests that he is part of the middle class, then explain that he should make good use of the $500 he sold his vote for, because it cost him his job.

For the manufacturers: When you move your production facilities overseas because the US has the second highest corporate income taxes in the world, make sure your workers understand that their Union is mostly to blame, and they should go talk to them about why it was a good idea to vote for the guy who would make all union votes public.

For your customers: Explain that the price of your product has gone up because of your taxes being increased, and because the rising price of oil from keeping the caribou happy has forced you to charge them more. Tell them you tried inflating your tires, but unfortunately it did not put any more gasoline in your tank.

Consumers: When you go shopping, and are considering buying a high ticket item, when you change your mind, make sure that they know that if you had only kep that extra 3% of your salary.... the "chump change", you could have bought their item.

In short: It is time for us all to become John Galt.

Make them understand that capitalism requires capital, and unfortunately Obama gave the capital you needed to somebody who was more deserving than them.

Ask them how it feels to be "rich".

Tell them that you are sure they will be OK, because Obama told them it would be so.

Ask them how they are enjoying their "Change", and if they have any more "Hope" for the future.

Exactly. “If you kid supported Obama, thank a teacher!” I would think that choking their asinine, time wasting fund raising silliness like candy and wrapping paper is a good start to thanking them.

I’m late getting back to you on this thread but I went to bed early last night as it was obvious the election was over after Ohio.

Your idea of funneling funds to firms and states that support free markets will only work if that’s where investors can make money. Unfortunately, the socialists now hold the purse strings and there may be more money to be made in businesses favored by redistributionists. If that’s the case, that’s where the investment money will flow.

I still maintain no businessman will entertain the idea of destroying his own business (Ayn Rand’s premise) for the sake of principle not to mention that businesses owned by the stockholders would and could put a CEO in jail for such a thing.

On the other hand, I feel confident that the taxes and regulations planned by the Dems will effectively do the same thing you suggest. The question then is, will the American public realize what’s going on or will they succumb to more crises created by the politicians and allow further nationalization of the economy. I think the latter is the case. Voters aren’t well enough versed in economics to realize when they’re getting rolled. I’m betting either the energy producing industry or the electricity industry will be next after a sufficient decline in power production engineered by the Dems.

Before you maximize your contributions wait and see what the Dems plan for 401K’s. At a minimum I think they will do away with the deductibility and at the extreme there are proposals to seize all 401K’s and put them in the social security trust fund (which isn’t a fund at all). The likely outcome will probably be somewhere in between. Hillary proposed during her campaign that the govt should seize 10% out of every 401K. I’m sure that would be means tested somehow so as not to offend voters who don’t have that much put away.

Keep your powder dry and keep cash.

If you decide to do this and create a ping list, please add me to it.

Queries:
* As a money manager, do you feel apprehensive about the socialist agenda, stated and implied, that has swept into power as far as the safety of mutual funds?
* Do you think transferring our savings and IRAs to a Galt Fund is a better idea than cashing everything out NOW and sinking those dollars into tangible assets?
* Are you worried that the fedguv would feel they had the blessing of the people to "spread the wealth" and would feel they now had the moral authority to seize people's retirement accounts and savings accounts to share with those who have not saved as much as we have?

We have scrimped and saved and gone without and sacrificed for a decade to get to where we are now financially, and I am NOT going to let some commie bass-turds take our hard-earned savings to give to some degenerates who have spent every nickel they get on booze and bling.

I really would like to hear your opinion on this.

Gold and silver is the ultimate way to store wealth, the Democrates will take your wealth. Even if it is in a 401k or IRA.

Also don’t buy anything you don’t need, people with money need to work to slow down consumer spending to starve the government of tax revenue.

“I have a great accountant, he tipped me last March and we sold everything, even the kid's college funds out of the market. I can't forsee needing any large purchase in the next 4 years, so I'm going to just sit tight. Hide & watch.”

You need to get as much money as you can into gold or sliver if you want to keep it here or get it out of the country all together.

“I am also going to maximize my contributions to lower my taxable income as much as possible.”

They are going to tax your 401k.

Got most of it in cash already. Looking at just sitting tight and seeing what Obambi does. Gold is overpriced at the moment, and I already have some silver.

That is a good point. I really do like what I do but if you logically look at things if is insane. I tell medical students the following: Go to college for 4 years ($100K) then medical school for 4 years ($200K) then surgical residency for 5-10 years depending on specialty making about $50K for working ~100-120 hours a week (at least when I did it, not about 80 hours a week), get a job finally for about $250K working about 100 hours per week, be told by the government goons you are rich and pay half that per year in malpractice insurance even if you have never been successfully sued. By the time you are done with all this you could have gotten a job at Walmart right out of high school and done better in the long run without the stress and expense. Besides to do my job today I only have to know what a Social Worker does because there is little medicine involved now, only social problems that are getting worse logarithmically. But I really do like what I do (I have to keep repeating that).

Anyone who's really serious chime in. I'm very serious about this idea! Let me know what I can do to help. A ping list would be helpful for those who wish to participate. I'll be happy to start one if you'd like.

I don't know how to start one, but would be glad if you did. Call it the "Atlas Shrugged" list.

I'm there. No purchases of any big ticket, taxable items. Sheltering as much income as possible in non-taxable forms. Buying some gold and other negotiable metals.

At this point, I don't care anymore. Let the economy drop like a rock. When people start crying, tell them to go to their Daddy Oboma for help.

“I am also going to maximize my contributions to lower my taxable income as much as possible.” They are going to tax your 401k.

That is true. The Dem Congress wants to take your 401k and turn it into an account similar to Social Security. You would receive a 3% rate of return, but your money would now be "safe" from the greedy capitalistas.

They will then raid that new large poll of assets, just like they do with Social Security Trust Funds to spend on other programs.

A new form of retirement programs will need to be formed to keep them away. It might be done with insurance products, like annuities.

Stay tuned...

The big boys are what you say, so that is why we can't count on them. Soros, Gates, Buffet, the one slime bucket in charge of GE, all of those buttwipes can stick it in their rich a$$e$. The small businesses are what will do the trick. If enough of those simply say, "I quit", it will have the desired effect.

In a previous life, I was a partner in an engineering consulting firm. I left that some time ago and sold my interest to my partner. I talked with him just this morning. They are making plans. Looking at downsizing, moving things offshore, outsourcing as much as they can. When I worked with him we did our best to avoid doing this kind of thing. We felt a sense of obligation to our employees and our country. We felt the sense of ownership in our country, our way of life, the things we felt our fellow citizens stood with us on, and that sense is what drove our desire for loyalty and pride, which translated in to how we ran our business.

Well, no longer. All that is finished. The is one small change that Oboma has wrought. Let him deal with the consequences. He said he would make everything all right for everyone in The Best Of All Possible Worlds. Well, he can have at it.

Starting a ping list is easy: Start collecting names and then save it in a text file.

Consider the list started!

It will take a lot less than imagined to put the Zero Administration on the defense when it comes to raising taxes. How about skipping Christmas, except for religious services? No gifts, no mail for the post office to deliver, no excessive food feasts or travel, no twinkling lights burning dirty coal, and all that Christmas decor rotting on store shelves. The big business that elected Z will blink hard and fast over this redistribution baloney.
