ELECTION 2008 Obama speechwriter defects to McCain 'I didn't leave the Democratic Party; the Democratic Party left me'
A long-time Democratic speechwriter who claims to have written for both Barack and Michelle Obama has announced she is leaving the Democratic Party and endorsing John McCain for president.
Wendy Button, a frequent columnist for the Huffington Post, where she is credited with writing speeches for Democratic Sens. John Edwards, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and John Kerry and for Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, made the announcement in a blog post called "So Long, Democrats" on The Daily Beast.
Button's reasons for defecting from the Democrats include false campaign slogans, poor economic policy and her admission that McCain was right about the surge in Iraq; but her argument begins with outrage over the way the Obama campaign attacked two women and a common man – Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber – the kind of people she thought the Democratic Party championed.
"I can no longer justify what this party has done and can't dismiss the treatment of women and working people as just part of the new kind of politics," Button writes.

I wonder if she knows what Obama’s internal polling numbers are. Could that be why she is leaving?
It’s no wonder she defected from the Obama campaign. He flipped off Hillary Clinton and called Sarah Palin a “pig,” so he obviously has some negative issues with women that he needs to work through. It’s a mystery why any woman would vote for him.
You are sooooooooooooo right. Why did she tell her story of switching at the 11th hour? That and the coal thing. This stuff should have come out weeks or months ago. Too many voters have already made up their minds a week ago and are tuning off any last minute inputs as a desperate part on the opposition parties.
WOW! That makes like 10 of his speech writers that have bailed in the past week or so....

but, Hillary supporters in red states, if they see this, and if they are among the “undecided”, might decide in her same direction

True enough. But Wendy may have been surrounded by enough koolaid drinkers at work and at home that they were ‘concerned’ about her and tried to talk her out of it or keep her from doing it, or just outwardly planned to make her life unpleasant if she ‘defected’.
