We knew that sooner or later in this American presidential campaign, somebody was going to do something really stupid.
We might have guessed where:
College Station.
Now, a Texas A&M student group known as the class clowns of conservatism has staged a stunt that even their own faculty adviser calls "really dumb."
The A&M chapter of the Waco-based Young Conservatives of Texas sponsored an egg toss Wednesday and again Friday.
But not just your typical Aggie barnyard egg toss. A&M students were offered a chance to hurl eggs at a giant photo of Barack Obama.
It was all part of a messy little campus publicity stunt called an "Anti-Obama Carnival" with the Soviet hammer and sickle added inside the "O" in Obama.
A Young Conservative from Midland told a Bryan TV station that the events were meant as a free-speech political protest where students could in the words of the official carnival T-shirt "throw away your nest-egg with Obamas economic policies."
A surly student crowd saw them smearing Obamas photo Wednesday with dozens of spattered eggs and surrounded the Rudder Plaza "carnival" to scramble it with more free speech.
The YCT is more archconservative and libertarian than the campus Republicans, he noted: "The most complaints come from the College Republicans. Every time the Young Conservatives do something stupid, its the Republicans who get embarrassed."
Texas A&M President Elsa Murano issued a statement defending the Young Conservatives freedom of speech, then blasting the carnival toss as "contrary to the core values of Aggies everywhere." She called for more "respectful" debate.
After the second carnival Friday, Listi said by phone that he considered the week a "success." He said the event was meant "to spark some controversy and draw attention."
But it might have broken more than eggs.

Its friggin college. Its where you are allowed to act like a moron, duh.
Is this writer a Texas alumnus? Sounds like it. I'm not sure why it's considered outrageous to throw eggs at a picture.
If Obama gets elected we can all kiss free speech goodbye. Any criticism of Obama will be seen as a racial hate crime.
Well we can’t implement any of Obama’s plans without breaking a few nest eggs.
Seriously though - get it in now cause when Obama takes over you’ll get arrested for this type of thing.
They got suspended? Hmmm . . . I’m betting the abortion rights activists would get away with murder on this campus.
Sounds like good clean fun to me. Better than hurling filthy invectives at Joe the Plummer and saying you want him dead as the lib radio host did in San Francisco.
These kids actually threw EGGS at a picture?!?!?!?!
OH, THE HORROR!!!!
Oh the horror!!! Don’t mind those UT students burning the flag, the effigy of President Bush, et al. Throwing eggs just crosses the line. /sarcasm
The student body at A&M is still Conservative but the Leftists have now successfully infiltrated the faculty and administration. Bill Gates was a very PC President.
why does this deserve more scrutiny that the vile hate that goes on daily throughout the nation against mccain/palin (palin effigy’s, etc)
Lol. When he was on a break from Microsoft? Robert Gates is the guy you mean, I think.
funny how the fu*ktards are allowed to pretend theyre shooting a cutout of the Great Gov. Palin....without so much as a fuss by the imbeciles that flood the media....
yet this..this is news?
Give me three dozen eggs..I’ll show that marxist f**k-rag exactly where he can stick them
Im sorry but this country is getting out of hand...I didnt get shrapnel in my ass for nothing...and I’ll be damned if I let this beautiful bastion (my spelling isn’t the best) of freedom go to hell in a handbasket...
I think NOT!
Ags can’t be kicked off Obama’s plane!
TAMU... beat the hell outta 0U!
Trajan88; TAMU Class of '88; Law Hall (may it R.I.P.) Ramp 9 Mule; f.u.p.!
