In another clip from the same January 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle in which Barack Obama promised to bankrupt anyone foolish enough to build coal-burning power plants, he also made an interesting admission about his entire energy plan. Obama told the editors that his policies would make energy prices skyrocket as the energy industry passed along the exorbitant costs of his cap-and-trade policy:

The problem is not technical, uh, and the problem is not mastery of the legislative intricacies of Washington. The problem is, uh, can you get the American people to say, This is really important, and force their representatives to do the right thing? That requires mobilizing a citizenry. That requires them understanding what is at stake. Uh, and climate change is a great example.
You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because Im capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.
They you you can already see what the arguments will be during the general election. People will say, Ah, Obama and Al Gore, these folks, theyre going to destroy the economy, this is going to cost us eight trillion dollars, or whatever their number is. Um, if you cant persuade the American people that yes, there is going to be some increase in electricity rates on the front end, but that over the long term, because of combinations of more efficient energy usage, changing lightbulbs and more efficient appliance, but also technology improving how we can produce clean energy, the economy would benefit.
If we cant make that argument persuasively enough, you you, uh, can be Lyndon Johnson, you can be the master of Washington. Youre not going to get that done.
great
McCain is stuck with the GW buy-in. The GOP announced it as part of their platform this past summer, so it won’t be going away. All he can do is tactfully avoid it when speaking before (and requesting the vote of) those who have not drunk the Eco-Marxist koolaid of man-made GW. I’ve read a few well-reasoned denunciations of the concept. It really is a shame that the GOP accepted the premise and then went along with the ‘need for change.’ As Bjorn Lomborg points out, because of free markets, the world is a cleaner, less polluted place. This should be the approach of the GOP (IMHO).
I’ve posted it on other forums. His followers are so blind. I cannot for the life of me figure it out.
Can we come live with you? I’m only half-kidding.
Obama the dictator. Buyers’ remorse and common sense should set in before they pull that lever.
My point was a the economy and the popularity of a war are traditionally attributed to the incumbent party... and thus the closeness of this elections suggests that Obama would not even be in the running with the economic and geopolitical situation.
Now by my standards this has not been a conservative administration but I doubt the public at large sees that.
Only if he wins. And that's not looking too likely as each hour passes.
Polls are polls and we know about weighting, BUT , McCain has to run the table in the battleground States. That`s a long road to hoe.
I'm more concerned about keeping my "in basket" full of productive work. Being an employee at my company doesn't mean squat unless you have performed the necessary marketing and contracting to turn your labor into cash flow. If you're not generating cash flow to cover your salary, the company is quite happy to issue a layoff notice. It's a fine meritocracy with zero job security.

I just sent the link to the YouTube audio, but here’s the transcript, if you want to include it: (P.S. I would also include the link from this thread because it has the whole audio and the clip where he says he wants to raise energy prices.)
“Let me sort of describe my overall policy.
What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.
I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.
That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel and other alternative energy approaches.
The only thing I’ve said with respect to coal, I haven’t been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a (sic) ideaological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can.
It’s just that it will bankrupt them.”
True, but there’s no reason he can’t. Some of these electoral maps have some pretty far-fetched “blue” states for Obama, too. Could be that McCain wins a couple of those and still loses a battleground state or two. Guess we’ll find out on Tuesday.
Thunder Bay is looking better n’ better.
Keep the faith, Brothers and Sisters in Canada! We are going to need your help.
The Obamessiah’s disciples actually think that the president will improve their lives.
The president can have an effect on their lives somewhat. The president can only affect how much government interferes with your life and impedes your personal progress towards what makes you happy and fruitful.
Making yourself happy and fruitful cannot be imposed upon you by an external agent. However, The Obamessiah’s disciples are stupid and gullible and miserable people.
And this on top of 100% more in taxes - if we are lucky.
The economy of the US will collapse, and we will be invaded.
I just called McCain national headquarters about this. She answered on the first ring, was very nice and said they had had several calls about this already. I told her to please, please, please get this out. The number is 703-418-2008.
Wow. He wants to break us all and destroy the economy altogether!
One of the biggest con games ever played. Lessee, “Jeff I’ll go with first grade science...
What gas is absorbed by trees in photosynthesis and what gas is emitted?
Why, Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen!
Yooooooooooorrreeeeee Right Mr. Gore!!!!!”
Ooops!
