Obama: I’ll make energy prices “skyrocket”

In another clip from the same January 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle in which Barack Obama promised to bankrupt anyone foolish enough to build coal-burning power plants, he also made an interesting admission about his entire energy plan. Obama told the editors that his policies would make energy prices skyrocket as the energy industry passed along the exorbitant costs of his cap-and-trade policy:
AUDIO AT LINK
The problem is not technical, uh, and the problem is not mastery of the legislative intricacies of Washington. The problem is, uh, can you get the American people to say, This is really important, and force their representatives to do the right thing? That requires mobilizing a citizenry. That requires them understanding what is at stake. Uh, and climate change is a great example.
You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because Im capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.
They you you can already see what the arguments will be during the general election. People will say, Ah, Obama and Al Gore, these folks, theyre going to destroy the economy, this is going to cost us eight trillion dollars, or whatever their number is. Um, if you cant persuade the American people that yes, there is going to be some increase in electricity rates on the front end, but that over the long term, because of combinations of more efficient energy usage, changing lightbulbs and more efficient appliance, but also technology improving how we can produce clean energy, the economy would benefit.
If we cant make that argument persuasively enough, you you, uh, can be Lyndon Johnson, you can be the master of Washington. Youre not going to get that done.

This is probably off-topic, but I love how Freepers always include the “uhs” in quotes of Obummer. I don’t know how anyone can think of this guy as eloquent. All the “uhs” make him sound clueless, if you ask me.

obama will probably fine people who don’t wear sweaters as carter asked us... or if we don’t change to energy efficient light bulbs..
i guess obamamama is going to fine parents if they don’t have the insurance for their kids that he wants them to have... so its not much of a stretch..

or if we dont change to energy efficient light bulbs..In a few years we won't have a choice. Congress passed, and Bush signed, a ban of that instrument of evil, the light bulb.

Spread the word to all those coal swing states, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Colorado, New Mexico, and Virginia.
Obama will bankrupt coal companies - Official calls comments 'unbelievable'...

What Obama's plans are for the coal industry---
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can, Obama said. It's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted.

I'm thankful to be finished mowing lawn. My primary residence sits on 1/3 acre. The 2nd house on 1/4 acre. In the summer, I cut 240 gallons of clipping at the primary residence and 180 gallons more at the 2nd house. That soaks up 4 1/2 hours of every Sunday.
We decided not to plant pumpkins this year. Our last snow day was June 6th with a hearty 7 inches. As previously mentioned, we had 5 inches on Oct 11th...earliest accumulation of snow in Idaho since 1898. The stores had plenty of pumpkins. The only thing I do with them is make big pans of pumpkin pie custard. That way I can enjoy the "good" part while avoiding the gluten laced crust.

I have a hankering for another big pot of Vietnamese "pho". We haven't done that in almost a month. Green curry with chicken (my favorite Thai dish) is sometimes given an extra kick with the habaneros. When time allows, we make huge pots of ground buffalo chili. What isn't eaten at dinner goes in meal size containers and is frozen for later meals. It never goes to waste. When buffalo isn't available, we find a top quality london broil and grind it (twice) to a fine texture. That also removes all the sinew. Very tasty.

Corzine was former CEO of Goldman Sachs... The co-founder of Generation Investment Management is former Goldman Sachs CEO Hank Paulson, who is currently the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury. Goldman Sachs bought 10% of Chicagos Climate Exchange shares for $23 million. Chicagos Climate Exchange owns half of the European Climate Exchange, Europes largest carbon trading company.
More proof that GS is a truly evil company, taking up where Enron left off. GS is doing as much to damage America as the entire class action tort industry.

You’re right - Drudge and Fox need to see this. Obama gives the middle class $9 a month in tax breaks - and an extra $50 a month on their power bill.

Sorry, homeowners will have to pay to 50% to 100% more for their electricity if the Greens and Obama do what they want to do.I'm afraid it will be far worse than 100% more. We're looking at price multiples. In addition, we're not adding enough capacity to keep up with demand and the global warming zealots want to shut down reliable base load production, like coal, and replace it with cost prohibitive, sporadic renewable power like solar and wind. Expect lots of brown outs and black outs in the coming years if Obama wins and turns us into a third word country.

"Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spread the word far and wide!! Audio proof (suppressed by the socialist Mediascum) that the Obamanator knows he will drive cost of electricity sky-high and know that he will devastate the coal industry. Why was this suppressed for the past 10 months???? [ok, we don't even need to ask that question]
