Obama: I’ll make energy prices “skyrocket”
hotair ^

In another clip from the same January 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle in which Barack Obama promised to bankrupt anyone foolish enough to build coal-burning power plants, he also made an interesting admission about his entire energy plan. Obama told the editors that his policies would make energy prices “skyrocket” as the energy industry passed along the exorbitant costs of his cap-and-trade policy:

The problem is not technical, uh, and the problem is not mastery of the legislative intricacies of Washington. The problem is, uh, can you get the American people to say, “This is really important,” and force their representatives to do the right thing? That requires mobilizing a citizenry. That requires them understanding what is at stake. Uh, and climate change is a great example.

You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.

They — you — you can already see what the arguments will be during the general election. People will say, “Ah, Obama and Al Gore, these folks, they’re going to destroy the economy, this is going to cost us eight trillion dollars,” or whatever their number is. Um, if you can’t persuade the American people that yes, there is going to be some increase in electricity rates on the front end, but that over the long term, because of combinations of more efficient energy usage, changing lightbulbs and more efficient appliance, but also technology improving how we can produce clean energy, the economy would benefit.

If we can’t make that argument persuasively enough, you — you, uh, can be Lyndon Johnson, you can be the master of Washington. You’re not going to get that done.

We have two or three of weeks yet, before we get our first real snow. It rarely stays on the ground more than a week or so at a time before February.

Wood is mostly in, split, & stacked.

Dozer needs the oil changed, then it’s ready for winter.

4X4’s already serviced. Cisterns winterized, chimneys cleaned, wood stoves ready. Chains on the garden tractor.

Garden spread with compost, chips, & manure; and then tilled & mulched for winter. Snow-dozer blade on the tiller, and it’s serviced for the winter.

The problem is that he will quadruple or quintuple energy prices. That means cold houses in winter, hot houses in summer, jobs fleeing the US, travel will be a luxury nobody can afford.

"Mobilizing a citizenry"??? You bet we will be mobilized. To send you straight back to Indonesia for starters, you damn communist tyrant.

The “lunacy” being his plan to cripple this nation by cutting off the energy flow and thus shutting down production and transportation

My final bit of yard work will be getting the deciduous leaves off the lawns. If it wasn't raining, I would be doing that today. The leaves dropped about a week late this year. I turned the water off the lawns on Oct 1st. The lower temperatures and intermittent rain are sufficient from that point until the snow arrives to cover the lawns. We had to move the habanero pepper plants into the living room to preserve the crop. The tomatoes weren't quite ready before the first killing frost. That crop was barely enough for a single salad. C'est la vie.

Make sure the UMWA knows where Obama stands and let them know good luck finding a job after their company goes bankrupt.

‘Let this be a lesson kids.

Don’t smoke crack!’

Why not?

Sadly, the real lesson children will learn is that making good speeches and hiding your real intentions can make you the most powerful man in the world, or at least get you awful close.

To add a little to your post, I ride the bus to college (pay for it in tuition and parking is $8.00 per day so you are kinda forced to) It takes 45 minutes to go 15 miles. Also the buses here in Milwaukee are very dangerous and just plain disgusting.

New Technology will just suddenly appear to be purchased!

Given that: 1) such technology doesn't exist, 2) he will control lots of money, 3) he wants "fairness" for the historically oppressed (read: black reparations), Obambi will be setting up legions of black entrepreneurs (New Black Panther Party types to the front of the line; even empty suited ones like himself--all the better for follow-on funding "requirements") who can get a mediocre proposal together, whether for $500K or $500M.

He'll act as if it's analogous to AIDS or cancer research. The workers will all be required to be unionized, and just like his Chicago Annenberg Challenge, $100M will buy squat in terms of real improvements.

Oh, and the availability of the hoped-for new technology? That'll pushed back long into the future, as if the Soviet System (stripped of its best espionage assets) were the best way to see that things would be done.

This article will be good in an email along with the article stating that AEP Ohio is asking for a 45% rate increase over the next 3 years.

“Shades of Jimmy Carter. Break out your sweaters, sit in the dark, keep your house so cold you could store a side of beef in your living room, and wipe out your checking account on newer energy efficient appliances.”

Never underestimate what Americans will pay to save money.

Well I am not persuaded! Why didn’t you talk about this more Obama if it is so important!

seriously, why would obama want to make us dependant on the arabs? I think we all agree on premise, but lets keep things in perspective. wild claims only hurt our cause and credibility. we need to convince people, not just insult obama (fun as it may be).

Your tomatoes sound like ours. What there are of them are wrapped in newspaper “ripening”. Potatoes did great though, and it was cool enough that we got peas through most of the summer. Do not mention squash or pumpkins.

Still trying to finish getting the roof reshingled. Close to 2/3 finished, but my knees can only take so much of the steep pitch before I have to come back in & set a spell in front of the keyboard.

No lawn. Between the four seasons of brown, greenish, brwon, and frozen solid, it was much easier to naturalize the area to bulbs & hardy perrenials. If I feel the need to sit on the grass, well there’s always a hundred or so acres of pasture; or we can visit friends in town.

I remember those days.

I remember them as well. My Dad was pretty inventive in finding ways to cut energy costs with 4 daughters in the house. He brought home flashlights for everyone, we would turn off everything and play "flashlight tag".

Took me years to figure out that he was saving money...LOL!
