RALEIGH, N.C. Incumbent GOP Sen. Elizabeth Dole continued Saturday to question her campaign rival's attendance at a fundraiser hosted by an adviser to an atheist advocacy group, beginning a round of automated calls that includes clips of Kay Hagan trying to explain her decision to attend.
Dole's campaign began sending out automated telephone calls that talks about Hagan, a Democratic state senator, and the Godless Americans Political Action Committee. Dole's campaign said 1.3 million calls are planned through Monday.
Hagan has sued Dole over her initial television ad about the fundraiser, accussing her of defamation and libel. The initial spot concludes with a picture of Hagan while another woman says, "There is no God." Hagan is an elder at her Presbyterian church and has responded with an ad that strongly declares her Christian faith.

If John McCain was this tough against Hussein, he might be ahead in the polls now.
I have no problem with it except she now trails Hagen by quite a bit in the polls. Not looking good for Dole.
I hang up and/or delete all automated calls from the answering machine immediately.
Not meaning to offend but why is Dole hanging around?
So many old Republicans trying to hold on to power when they should have retired.
We need new blood, new REAL conservatives. Not RINOs and old fools whose time is past.
The latest WRAL poll had Dole up by 4.
You go, Liddy.
The way they scream, it must be working.
Sorta like vampires and Holy water.
The only reason McCain isn't ahead in the Polls is because they are rigged to make sure he isn't.
The polls I have seen recently have stated that she has moved ahead is likely to retain her seat.
Voters don’t just want to hear why your opponent is “bad” - they want to know WHAT YOU DID OR CAN DO FOR THEM.
This whole “my opponent just sucks” angle of campaigning is what is causing us to not be further ahead than we are in ANY race - POTUS included.
Try telling the voters what YOU have done or will do for once!!
I mean..how hard is it? (Wellll..unless you haven’t actually DONE anything..)
I just saw your sign up date-thanks for the misinformation.
Its too late to change now. She should press on and go down fighting. Or better yet, win with truth.
There are a lot of ignorant people out there...and if you live off the workers of society...you have nothing to lose....and you go for "more" of what the workers have.....That's what Obama offers them....Free Money....out of our pockets.
Americans don't want to know what a politican is going to do for them, they want to know the the politican will represent what they believe in and fight for those values.
You are right.
Anyone who has a smattering of knowledge of Kay Hagen knows she would be a willing cog in ZeroReidPelosi’s cabal.
It would be a disaster.
Liddy hasn’t been the most outspoken or flashy Senator in NC’s history but she has been reliable.
I just hope my Tarheelian compadres send her back.
How dare you try to paint me as a spy or something. I already voted for Dole. I live in NC and know what people are saying. If you did some homework, you would know, too.

“HICKORY, N.C. — An unexpected dead heat in North Carolina’s Senate race turned nastier this week when Republican incumbent Elizabeth Dole launched a new advertising assault against her Democratic opponent. But the tactic has appeared ineffective so far, as Sen. Dole continues to trail her challenger in polls.
Elizabeth Dole
Sen. Dole began airing a television ad in the middle of this week accusing her opponent, Democratic state Sen. Kay Hagan, of ties with an atheist group. But polls reflected no bump by the week’s end for Sen. Dole, who trails Sen. Hagan by 5.5 points in an average of surveys compiled by RealClearPolitics.”
As for when I signed up, I was without a computer for three years because my daughter took it off to college. I re-registered this year when I got a new laptop for Mother’s Day, if it is any of your business.
I went to see Palin here in Asheville and took my daughter and future son-in-law. Both my daughters have already voted - for McCain/Palin AND Dole.
People like you take the fun out of FR.
It serves no purpose to bury your head in the sand or to plug your ears and say “la la la - I can’t hear you”! The truth is Dole may very well lose this election.
So stop spreading false information.
Which poll are you looking at?
That's what God gave us caller ID for. If the number comes across as "Unknown" or I don't recognize the caller then I don't answer. Lord knows how many polls I've missed being included in over the past few weeks.
Democrat Kay Hagan now holds a six-point lead over incumbent Republican Senator Elizabeth Dole in North Carolina.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the Tar Heel State shows Hagan with 52% of the vote and Dole with 46%. Three weeks ago, Hagan held a five-point advantage.
This is the fourth straight Rasmussen Reports survey to show Hagan in the lead. In May, Rasmussen Reports was the first polling firm to show Hagan ahead of Dole, a result that was harshly challenged by the Dole campaign. Over the summer, a television advertising blitz put Dole back on top until mid-September.
Is this also “misinformation”?
There must be somebody listening to the automated calls, just like somebody talks to telemarketers. Too bad, because if everyone hung up, the industry would all go away.
