I fear you are absolutely right.

Stock up on some food too.
Wheat does not perish if you store it properly - use a 5 gal. bucket and put some dry ice on top to displace the air. Seal it after it has evaporated and there is no air in there. It will last for centuries.

Honey lasts a long time too.

In Vietnam they took my M14 away from me and gave me an M16. Twice during fire fights that piece of crap jammed and had to be field stripped to clear the round that was jammed in the breach by a poorly designed receiver mechanism.
I would never own an M16 or its civilian version the AR15.
There are lots of better weapons around.

I disagree with one point of your post: Go ahead and enjoy your rifle! The AR-15 is an enjoyable platform with little recoil and very accurate to 300-500 meters. With dedicated care and cleaning/lubrication, it's a reliable weapon system. From my own experience, other than inadequate cleaning/lubrication, the magazines are the weakest point of the AR-15 design with their tendency for feed lip bending. PMag makes a great robust AR-15 magazine, however, in both 20- and 30-round models.

So go ahead and have fun with your AR-15 while knowing the skills you're practicing may come in handy "in case of zombie invasions"! I enjoyed both shooting and working with mine so much, I went ahead and built a second Vietnam-era retro version from excess parts. :-)

Oh, and I recommend you visit AR-15.com for a great source of on-line info.

AR is an awesome varmint gun. It also hones the skills with it while shooting small critters. You will be very surprised at how little recoil it has.

Only buy good ammo and practice your jam drills.

AR-15 = Overpriced poodle shooters.

30-06 or 7.62x39 - ammo weighs more but you only need 1/3 as much if you can aim properly.

Plus you can buy 2, 3 or 4 rifles for the price of one AR-15.

One Garand, SKS or AK-47 and a 12 ga. pump will get the job done.

I’ve got a lower on layaway currently. The absolute earliest I could conceivably get parts together to build mine is the Thursday after the election.

Earliest I could conceivably walk into a store and walk out with a complete one is mid December with my Christmas bonus.

I’m worried because it’s the last gun on my “must have” list and I’m afraid I might not be able to get it :(

44mag.com for magazines. $10 on average. Most everyone buys from them and they deliver with great prices and a fantastic selection.

Why gun sales are shooting up in Arizona

02:26 PM MST on Friday, October 31, 2008

azfamily.com

Gun owners worried

PHOENIX — Steve Saridakis, a Valley gun dealer put it like this.

“it’s scary. I’ve had nightmares about this guy.”

Obama says he does support the second amendment and a person’s right to bear arms.

But in the past he has supported bans on semi-automatic weapons and on concealed weapons.

It’s enough to make gun owners nervous.

Ron Bilodeau says “not so much fear, just major concerns.”

Kirk Optepeke agrees, “they just talk about if Obama wins, some of our second amendment rights will be taken away from us.”

And as a result gun shops across the country are seeing a spike in sales.

Nationwide, gun sales are up around 10 percent.

Dealers say some buyers fear a bad economy will lead to more robberies - and are buying guns for self defense.

But most we talked to say a possible Obama administration is driving sales.

“Specifically the assault rifles they think are gonna be banned,” Saridakis says.

Obama doesn’t own a gun. Mccain doesn’t either, and he supports background checks at gun shows so gun owners say he’s not the ideal candidate either.

Saridakis says “he’s not a gun guy, but his vice president is.”

My Father, a retired Sheriff's Deputy and a strict "law and order" type, picked up a Bushmaster M4 last Sunday from a local Cabela's. He too feels as you do. That our entire Republic trembles on the brink of open fighting in the streets. That the only way to KEEP our Republic may be to spill blood for it.

Sad days indeed. "Sic vis Pacem. Para bellum..." The cure of having to Fight for a full restoration of the promise of freedom laid out in the Constitution is no where near as horrible as the disease currently killing our way of life.

Catholic theology questions:

1 - Can we morally ignore gun confiscation laws?
2 - When is a civil war or revolution morally justifiable, if ever?

So, how many cases of ammo did you get to go with it. I sold a collector grade S&W a couple days ago and used the proceeds to buy 4,000 rounds of military grade .223 yesterday. I’m not taking any chances.

And, after familiarizing myself with this new weapon and becoming proficient in it's use I intend on putting it away and hope to forget about it.

You have no idea what a monster you have unleashed on yourself ... After familiarization & proficiency, you may well find that you like the Black Rifle. It'll just get its tiny little mouse-gun claws into your soul and never let go.

I know whereof I speak ...

I bought my AR15 after Katrina when I saw what you could expect when the police could not respond. I have accumalated 3,000 rds of ammo since then and spent plenty of time at the range so I’m ready for any thugs who want to come thru my front door.

Thanks for this post, Wpin. I brought home my new AR-15 a couple of days ago. I can relate to what you wrote. But I am SO glad to have taken the step in buying one...as it is a tool that can help able me and mine to take any necessary steps in standing ground and standing up. I got right to work in the "practice makes perfect" department, and I will not hesitate to put this powerful piece of machinery to work if absolutely need be.

Again, thanks for the post. I share your mixed sentiments....
