Speaking out recently against Proposition 8, the proposed constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage, former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown made an appeal for the importance of protecting the rights of same-sex couples.
And then he urged his audience to vote yes on the proposition. Brown misspoke. He intended to advocate a no vote. But he isnt alone in confusing which side is which. As election day nears, both supporters and opponents of Proposition 8 worry that voters will be confused by a choice that can seem counterintuitive: Voting no on the initiative means voting yes on gay marriage, while voting yes means gay marriage would be disallowed.
There is confusion on both sides over yes meaning no and no meaning yes, said West Hollywood City Councilman John Duran, who is helping campaign for No on 8. He added, jokingly, that he has heard supporters of the proposition say, Im opposed to gay marriage, so Im voting no, and Im like, Yes, vote no.
In recent days, both campaigns have taken steps to educate their faithful to make sure they vote the right way.

If someone is so ignorant, illiterate, and disinterested that they cannot read the initiative and understand the meaning of their vote, they shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
I really don’t think the “yes” voters are confused. They know full well what their votes mean.
Only liberals are going to make that mistake.
It ain’t rocket science for crying out loud.

Much less hold the offices of Mayor or Governor. The State of Kalifornica has been ill served by so many officials.
Vote YES on 8 and tell all your friends. family, strangers, acquaintances to VOTE YES ON 8.

Confusion is the reason two men or two women think the can be ‘married.’
the can=they can
No kidding. With the amount of yard signs, bumper stickers, and literature in the mail that we’ve seen on Prop. 8...if you don’t know what you’re voting for, you’re an idiot.
Florida has a marriage amendment too—why do we keep hearing about Prop 8. Is it because we’re ignorant, bigoted Southerners who are expected to ban gay marriage while if enlightened Californians ban it it will be a slap in the face to the elites of that state?
Agree 100%. We need to make it HARDER to vote, not easier. We need informed voters, not those bought off with packs of cigarettes.
I suppose the nation survived the 60s so it'll survive the 2000-teens as well.
Because FL doesn’t already have gay marriages and CA does. The FL action is only further codifying existing practice in the state.
I've even heard such confusion from posters on THIS site.
Just read the proposed amendment and answer appropriately. Duh!!
