If someone is so ignorant, illiterate, and disinterested that they cannot read the initiative and understand the meaning of their vote, they shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
I really don’t think the “yes” voters are confused. They know full well what their votes mean.

Florida has a marriage amendment too—why do we keep hearing about Prop 8. Is it because we’re ignorant, bigoted Southerners who are expected to ban gay marriage while if enlightened Californians ban it it will be a slap in the face to the elites of that state?
