Internal polling for proponents of Proposition 8, which would ban same-sex marriage in California, shows the race tied; public polls have it tied at 44% to 44% with 12 percent undecided. Internal polling for opponents of proposition 8 have the race within the margin of error.
So it's real close. Both sides are accusing other of dirty tactics; someone effectuated a denial-of-service attack on the No side's website.
Yes on 8 director Frank Schubert says his side will have 100,000 volunteers on Election Day. (That's unlikely -- initiative directors like to equate their lists with their volunteers -- but even if he has 5,000 volunteers, it will be impressive.) Lots of money and people power have been donated through the efforts of the LDS Church and the Knights of Columbus.
A while ago, the No on 8 side was very worried; Patrick Guerrero, a senior political strategist affiliated with uber-gay-Democrat financier Tim Gill and a former executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, was brought on board to save the efforts. He raised a lot of money very quickly. A week and a half ago, Guy Cecil, who helped to engineer Hillary Clinton's (too) late-in-the-reason victories in PA and OH, joined as a senior strategist.

Bull!!! I don’t believe this at all. Even though California gets it wrong on a lot of votes, I think this proposition is going to win and by a comfortable margin.
No way there are 12% undecided. They are just afraid to say they are voting for Prop 8 lest they be labeled as homophobic.
When they say undecided...it means yes.
Just as it means John.
I seem to notice a pattern of pollees remaining undecided (a large number of pollees) because, presumably, they are fearful of negative judgements. These judgements would be coming from the obviously tolerant side of the aisle.
Hmmmmm?
“No way there are 12% undecided. They are just afraid to say they are voting for Prop 8 lest they be labeled as homophobic.”
You got it.
This is mirroring the national election and fear of being labeled racist.
California' Gay Marriage Prop 8: A TieBullshit!
agreed. I work with 10 other people. 2 of us are voting for McCain. 3 others will vote, the other 5 will not vote.. But everyone seems to agree that marriage should remain for men and women only. That surprised me, as I thought the liberals on our team, would vote for gay marriage.
I think it will pass.
Does it need only a straight majority to pass?
Yes, and we’ll be so gay if it passes.
It’s amazing how much MONEY the poor, downtrodden, underprivileged, discriminated-against, marginalized gays have to THROW AROUND.
On C-span last week there was a discussion on gay marriage. A man who stated he was a Republican called and said he had homosexual friends and it was a shame they couldn’t marry. The next call was from a liberal Democrat woman who was appalled at the thought of gay marriage, insisted that marriage was between a man and a woman, and reviled the Massachusetts school system for indoctrinating its captives.
Go figure.
